Separate checks?

We will be a party of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids). Will table service restaurants do separate checks? I thought I remembered something about an automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more and I didn't know if that would prevent them from giving separate checks.

its been a while since I travelled with a bigger group, so things might be different. I believe they'll split the check--make sure to explain at the beginning of each meal which meals should be on each bill. I don't think separate checks influences the automatic gratuity though. if there are 6 or more bodies at a table, the gratuity will show up on each bill.

They will do separate checks... but both checks will still have the automatic gratuity added to them.
