Sep. 7, 2015 on the Dream

Let's talk about motion sickness. I got the script for scopolamine patches, but after hearing about the withdrawl horror stories after removing them I am terrified. Not just for me, but for my daughter. I have taken meclazine (Bonine) before for vertigo and it knocks me out for about 3 days (not an exaggeration). I am suddenly really afraid that our cruise is going to be ruined either by motion sickness or the meds. :crazy2:
Anyone use anything besides the patches or Bonine that works for them?
Not sure how susceptible you are to motion sickness, but on our first cruise, Ashley was very nauseated the whole first day, and did not eat much for dinner that night (we didn't have any medicine). She was fine the rest of the Cruise.
So when it got time for our second cruise we purchased both sea bands and this small bottle of essential oils that you place behind your ear. Both of these were purchased at Walgreens. She did not get sick any on that trip.
Both of these cruises were on Carnival Fantasy class ships (the smallest and oldest in there fleet), so they probably moved with the ocean more than the Dream will.
The sea bands are elastic bands with a small button that is placed on the inside of your wrist. The pressure in that spot is supposed to help you from feeling sick.
The smell of the oil that you place behind the ear is also supposed to help you from feeling sick.
I don't know how well they would work for others, but they seemed to work for my wife!

Amber - are you certain you'll need motion sickness meds? George gets motion sickness on smaller boats, for example a whale watching charter. He also gets motion sickness on helicopters. He did not have any issues on the Dream in Dec. Our first night out was REALLY rough seas. You would be walking down the hall and it would toss you to the other side. He didn't have any problems with that. Granted, there were people that did. I know they give out motion sickness pills on board for free, but not sure what kind they are.

Have you tried seabands? They helped with morning sickness for me. I wore them on a cruise when I was pregnant as a precaution.

George had a harder time than the rest of us getting his land legs back.

I was going to have a doc write me a script for Scop patches, but I decided against it. Not only are there withdrawals afterwards, but there can be a lot of side effects while using them. I could deal with being thirsty, but many people have vision issues. I don't want to use them with my kids either, and mine are bigger than yours. We always use the non-drowsy dramamine and I have never had issues. I've always medicated my children with it also, even when they were little (there are kids chewables available). I know people say you may not get sick, but I have a history so I won't chance it. I will start taking the meds Saturday for my flight and will continue taking through the cruise. People who don't get sick do not understand, once it starts it is very hard to get control of until you stop moving. I probably will not take them as frequently as I'm able, but at least daily. I was looking into the Seabands but they are pretty expensive by the time I add them up for everyone, since I don't know if they will use them even. I'll stick with my pills. I might ask my friends and see if anyone has Seabands to borrow.

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR VACATION!!party:

Just finished my last test for this module of classes. I got A's in both classes!! I now have 9 weeks off of school!! It is much needed!! I had to skip the next section because of vacation, just in case something was due while we were on the ship. Now I can really start to focus on Disney. We only have about 22 days to go I better get busy :)

Switched my transportation to a minivan with Tiffany Towncar instead of Happy Limo already. I need to make my Amazon purchases, so I can get our pirate costumes done. So much to do, so much to do!! I am feeling so much more excited today!!!

I'll see if I can find my Seabands and bring them for you. We went out on a day cruise when I was a kid and got seasick. That is so miserable. I would hate for anyone's vacation to be ruined!! I'll let you know if I can find mine.

Last two cruises both husband and I used the scopamine patches. We never have motion sickness problem but got the patch for prevention. For some reason we didn't really notice the blurry vision the first time but we sure did with the second one. After removing the patch I had blurry vision the whole day! Thank goodness I wasn't driving. My husband drove home ok from the port but he said he didn't like the feeling. So this time around I have 4 sets of sea bands for the family and Draminine for kids and adults ready.

Thanks! I think I found some already though :) What Voldemort can't do, lol! If my friend can't find all of them I will just buy some and keep the receipt. If we don't use them I can return them :thumbsup2

That's our plan too!

My son and I are very sensitive to motion sickness, me more so. The Yeti gets me every time! :crazy2: As a precaution we take half a dramamine each just to take the edge off and not put us to sleep but this has been for small boats. Did not have much success with bands. I have only experienced sea sickness once on a cruise and the seas were pretty bad. Even though I am a nurse I try to avoid meds and I am a big fan of essential oils so I plan to mix a concoction to bring with us. Peppermint oils so far has help with car sickness.

It's really sad when the kids and I clean the house and they both ask, "Are we having people over?"

Honestly, I really do clean my house! With school it has been picked up, but we are really deep cleaning today. I feel so accomplished today!! Trying to get everything done so we can go horse racing again tomorrow night!!

My kids ask the same thing when I start cleaning! Just makes me roll my eyes!!

Is anyone going crazy over D23?? I am following so many people that are there. I would love to go sometime. Maybe 2021, lol!! I can't wait for the Disney Parks announcements on Saturday!!

Oh, related to DCL, there is a rumor going around D23 that DCL will be add more ships to the fleet and visiting new islands in the Caribbean. I'll let you know if I hear anything for sure. This is currently just rumor!

One other cool thing that I saw was a Minnie nail salon set up. It would be great to have one of those in DTD. Carly and I would go each trip. They had a ton of different Disney nail designs!! It's mani pedi time :D

Ok. Now that I'm not so stressed, I have a lot more time on my hands. (If you can't tell from the 20 posts already today, lol) So to give me something to do I am trying to switch some dining around. Hoping to get something in the MK on the 13th at 11:45. This is my new project for the next 3 weeks :D

This is us all day! Lol. It does seem like a never ending fight to keep a house clean; especially with two kids running around!

it wasn't until I heard the rumor about DCL that I wanted to keep up with it. Now I have found myself looking for updates every few hours!

Yay!! New restaurant announced!! It has been rumored for a while but is now official, The Skippers Canteen will be coming to Adventureland late 2015!! You can see info at Disney Parks Blog. It sounds really awesome!! We love the snarky corny skippers on the Jungle Cruise so this will be great!! I will be going for my birthday trip for sure!! I don't care what I have to do for a reservation lol!!

Happy Saturday peeps! Sitting here at work watching the Dream sail into port Nassau! I always watch it leave, but have never watched it come in. Looks like a beautiful day there! *Sigh* Soon that will be us!!!!
Any more of you type A's (*cough* Melissa *cough*) going through Disney prep withdrawal? I have nothing left to do and I feel lost!! I just know I am forgetting something!

Lol! You can help me!! I feel like I'm so far behind everyone else. This week my plan is to get all of the magnets made. I think it's going to end up way cheaper if I just have photos printed like you did. I think I have a Walgreens code to use :) I also still haven't placed my Amazon order! I have twelve things sitting in my cart. One thing did go down $5 so that was nice :D

I think Melissa was switching up her dining for something to do, lol!! I did that myself a little bit, too ;)

Amber. If your motion sickness isn't too severe you may have luck with ginger pills. You can get them at a health food store. They work for me on car trips but not cruises. I take Bonine which doesn't make me drowsy at all so no help there. The patches are brutal and you're not supposed to drink alcohol when on them o_O. Others are right tho as long as the seas are relatively calm you may not feel a thing. I'm so sensitive to motion I can feel the vibration when they fire up the engines.
