Sensing Pixie Dust I Am! A Star Wars Weekend PTR! New PTR Link pg. 77!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cancelled trip. :( I'm sure that you guys will have a great time at the beach.

We are also cancelling our summer WDW trip, although we are technically just postponing it until later in the year. Being a grown up is definitely no fun!

Can you add me on Facebook? I'd love to see all of your summer pics! facebook.com/mom2lilvols

Hello.. just a friendly reminder that you still need to PM me your name, so I can locate you on FB. ;)

Well, I have some disappointing news to impart this morning.

We have had to "downsize" our vacation and are not heading to Disney this summer. :(

Jackie - Sorry you had to cancel this year's WDW trip. I can imagine how disappointed you are. Still, post about your beach trip!! Any vacation is still magical when you are with your family, right? :lovestruc

I was once again behind so I'm just seeing the sad news. I did see the picture of the cottage on FB and wondered also if you were getting 2 vacations.

A trip for us doesn't look good for this year due to house work and other things so I can understand some of your disappointment. I'm still crossing my fingers for a New Years trip. Our summer trip will most likely be a trip to see our oldest in Austin, Tx with a side trip to San Antonio.

The beach vacation sounds great and relaxing. I'm also having visions of Chelsea and a summer romance. She is just the right age for her first crush. I see Conner collecting all kinds of shells and animals and maybe some interesting plants.

Oh, I have ALL sorts of tips for you about all three places! Where do you want me to start?

When you are in Hilton Head, go eat at The Sea Shack. It is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place with the BEST seafood! My mouth starts watering just thinking about it!

That sounds like so much fun. My GFs both like seafood, so this is perfect. I absolutely love seafood and like those hole-in-the wall places. Perfect.

As far as Charleston, I could go on and on about it. What did you want to do there?

Well, since we've never been, I figure the usual touristy things. Should we do a boat tour, a bus tour, just hit the historic areas? I don't know where to start. I figure we will spend the entire day there touring and having lunch. I don't know if we stay for dinner or not, but we will def make a day out of it.

All suggestions welcome!

Sorry to hear this Jackie...your pre trippies are an essential part of my pre summer reading year after year...:)....You should try a blog...you write so well and have a lovely family!

Could I friend you on face book>,..can you link me?.or pm me your name/page..i would love to hear all your trip updates!

Awww I'm so sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip

But, you guys will have such an amazing time on your beach vacation! Parking the car and walking everywhere just sounds so nice and relaxing and I saw the picture of your cottage on FB...it's so cute!!

Thanks, Kristen! I do like that we will be able to just relax and stroll and play in the sand! :goodvibes

Aww rats. I hopped off the DIS went to the grocery store and Target and saw your post on Facebook and that got me worried... I was thinking you were going to do both, then I wasn't sure, then I got home and just hopped on.

Yes, sadly it's just the beach this year.

Well, you still owe me a photo of Connor at the beach in his Starwars Teeshirt

Oh, yes, I will still take a picture of him in his Star Wars shirt. The background will just be a little different. LOL!

And yes, home improvements are costly, but they are fun, and okay, okay, being responsible for other expenses (braces!) is not fun -- boo!, BUT yes, you will still get some Disney in at some point soon, I bet. Heck, F & W, a fall or winter cruise, NYE... WHO knows...

Very true! There are lots of Disney options to choose from! :thumbsup2

AND just for the record, we are going to go to WDW the summer of 2012 and to Universal... so I hearby say we have to make a meet work in 2011-2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4th of July?? Mid June?? ;)

Really??? Now, that would be a lot of fun!!! I will be taking summer classes for my degree, but I bet we could work something out!!! My brain is whirling with possibilities! :rolleyes1

Honestly, I was as sad for you about missing this year's meets for the same reason I wish I were able to go, too... I have met some great friends on the DIS. That is what gets me excited for Disney these days, as well as our family fun. Which says a lot about you all

I agree! Great, great people on the DIS! :goodvibes

NOW, on a fun note, I just got some adorable spring mickey head sprinkles... so you know what that means...

That definitely puts a "spring" in my step! ;)

I love that cottage, btw. TOO cute, reminds me of the places we stay in the fall when we go to Virginia. quaint. :goodvibes I will enjoy hearing about a fabulous place I have never been too! Thanks for taking us with you! :goodvibes

Thanks! I am looking forward to our week there! I just bought the cutest beach bag from Pottery Barn Teen -- I will have to post a pic on FB. Also, went ahead and started my stack of books for all of us to take to the beach. Not to mention making the master shopping list of stuff we will need...you know, all important stuff like rum and pina colada mix. LOL!

And you better be on the DIS and facebook throughout the summer!!! I know I count on your quips and enjoy our banter... after all, SOMEONE has to help me poke fun at Shocker... :rotfl:

You couldn't keep me away!!!

Aww, Jackie, hate to see that you will miss the Disney trip. I know that it can't be helped, but that doesn't make it feel any better!

I had to give up my Feb trip to Palm Beach this year because DH wanted to redo the family room. Love the room, but still was not happy about missing my trip.:sad2:

I do love beach cottages & the ocean, not Disney, but a great second place!

Doris

Thanks, Doris! Yes, the beach is a great second place. Seafood and sunsets and sand -- some of my favorite things!

Oh no....I'm so sorry you had to make the aweful call to Disney Reservations to cancel.

I have had to make the same tough decisions in the past and it's very hard.

On a brighter note...I'd love to see the cottage pics!
I'm not on FB so I can't see them there.
Pretty Please!
Kids are happy to just go on vacation, so I'm sure they will have so much fun at the beach!

My DS16 actually likes the beach better than Disney...

I know how much you were looking forward to seeing the revamped Star Wars Ride.

I'm with Memom hoping to see you for NYE!!!:wizard:

P.S. We will be staying in New Jersey now...because they had a pool. LOL

Thanks! It was a tough call. It really made me sad to hear that Disney music playing while I was waiting to cancel. However, we will be back -- hopefully sooner than later. Chelsea is very excited about the beach -- Connor will probably be excited once we get there.

I really hate to hear that! I was in the same boat last year, so I can totally relate. But I tell you what though, after all was said and done, I was so glad that we held off on that trip and took care of some other things. We are so much better off financially now, and it will make this year's trip even better having that peace of mind. I am sure you will feel the same way in the long run.

Thanks, Rinky! I know we are making the right decision, and Disney will be there next year (or sooner). :goodvibes

I know it is disappointing though b/c nowhere else compares to Disney. We went to Williamsburg, VA last year and we had fun, but everything just seems medicore after you've been to Disney. And yes, I am well aware that I sound like a spoiled brat for saying that. :rolleyes1 I really was thankful to be able to go anywhere, but you know what I mean. But I really do think that it will make you enjoy your next trip much more having had to skip this one. And if your life is as crazy as mine it sure makes the time fly by, so another trip will be here before you know it. One thing is for sure... you should be much more rested after a relaxing beach trip than a go, go, go Disney trip! I'm betting it will all be great and you'll be happier in the end! I will be on the lookout though for your next trip! :wizard:

I agree! If this next year flies by as quickly as this one has, another Disney trip will be here before I know it!

Hello Jackie, I've finally started my PTR for May. Here is the link you would like to follow along. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40489079#post40489079

Hi, Jen! I will head over there this morning!

Aw sorry to here no disney trip this year. But I'm sure your beach vacation will be just as much fun.

Thanks! Any vacation is a good vacation in my mind!

Awwww Jackie what hard news!! I too was looking forward to meeting up with you again, but there will always be other trips!!

Being a grown up is hard, but you are doing good things with the funds and you'll have a great time at the cottage! It looks adorable!!! I can't wait to hear about your adventures there!!!!

Thanks, Jen! I am sure we will have lots of adventures at the beach! LOL! And I will be able to get some updated pictures of the kids on the beach -- the last ones I have of them, Chelsea was nine and Connor was seven!

I know it's not Disney, but the beach sounds fun and relaxing, and the cottage charming! I hope you enjoy it and all the positive things that are going on. :)

Thanks, TK! I think we need relaxing this year. It has been a crazy year.

Sorry you have to change your big Disney plans Jackie, but I'm sure you'll have a great time at the beach!!
Last summer when we did both Disney and the beach, I REALLY enjoyed our beach time. It was so fun and relaxing. Different from Disney, but really great!
I'll have to check FB to see the place you're going!

On another note - My DD10 just got the first two Kingdom Keepers books for her b-day! She's reading Harry Potter too, so I'm hoping to snag one and read it first!!

Hi, Sheree! Yes, the beach will be different, but in some ways, I think relaxing is what we need.

I hope you love the Kingdom Keepers books. I just ordered the fourth one to put in Connor's Easter basket this year. Hopefully, it doesn't make him too sad that we aren't heading there this summer.

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that you had to cancel Disney this year, Jackie. I have been MIA from the boards up until recently because I had to reschedule the birthday trip I had planned and change it to a trip for this October. I can understand how bad it is to have to cancel a trip – but at least you are going to the beach and that cottage sounds wonderful! Also, congrats on going back to school!

Thanks, Tink! October is such a lovely time to visit Disney! You are going to love it with all the Halloween decorations and Food and Wine going on at Epcot!

I was happy to hear NYE is not out of the question. :cool1:

Not out of the question. I am taking things one trip at a time, but I am still hoping we will be able to sneak down there to ring in the New Year.

Jackie,

So sorry about Disney, but I can fully understand. It is a tough decision but sometimes one you have to make. I am sure you will have a fabulous time on the beach.

Sure hope you will be able to visit at NYE. I am sure that would be a blast.

Erika

Thanks, Erika! I am thankful we are still doing a trip! I love traveling, so I would be really depressed if we weren't going anywhere this year.

That's such a bummer! Even though it's not Disney, it's nice that you're getting a nice beach vacation though. The beach is a great place.

I agree! It's been too long since I saw the Atlantic Ocean.

I love Mary Kay Andrews. Her books are such fun reads. If you would like to run a series of historical fiction books about Savannah read Eugenia Prices Savannah series. The last book of the series, even moves with a family up your way.

I love Mary Kay Andrews, too! I have read all of her books and have been rereading the Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze, and Blue Christmas trio. She has a new one coming out this summer called Summer Rental. I will have to check out those Eugenia Price books -- thanks! :thumbsup2

Jackie, yesterday must have been the day for trip cancelling--we had to cancel our June trip also because of remodeling...a new garage to be exact...ours sorta caved in :confused3

Anyway, we have also been fortunate with multiple trips in the last couple of years, so no complaining from us...just tears on my pillow:sad1:

So, you know exactly how I am feeling, don't you? Sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip, too! I bet you and I have had the same exact thoughts lately -- trying to make ourselves feel better by saying, "Lots of people don't go to Disney as often as we do." I have said that A LOT lately. ;)

What beach are you headed to? We are hitting Hilton Head this fall. We have never been so it is a new adventure! Have fun!

Oh, you will LOVE Hilton Head! We have been there several times over the years. That used to be our annual summer trip with the kids until we launched into our Disney-Every-Year phase. LOL! We are headed to Tybee Island this year -- it is right across the bridge from Savannah.

Aw, Jackie that stinks :( It is not fun being an adult sometimes. But, I know you guys will have a wonderful time at the beach. That cottage is so cute!!

Thanks, Heather! I can't wait for the beach now!

Awww...I am so sad for you but the cottage looks absolutely adorable! One of my dearest friends in the world lives on Tybee and adores it. We miss her out here but she'll never leave there! I'd love to visit it someday.

Thanks, Cynthia! I have driven onto Tybee to look around when we have been to Savannah, but we have never actually stayed on the island. I hope we love it as much as we think we will from the pictures. It will be a new adventure for us regardless. :goodvibes

Jackie, I'm so sorry you had to cancel. :sad2: It is hard sometimes to face the disappointment, but I'm sure you will have a great time at the beach, and you will have more peace about finances. I will look forward to your next great adventure! Don't forget to stop by my cruise! pirate:

Thanks, Tammie! I am very excited to read about your cruise! It's going to be so much fun!

Sorry to hear about the change in plans but the cottage is positively adorable (definitely something out of a storybook), the home improvements sound like fun (will there be Disney touches ala MeMom?) and congratulations on the decision to go back to school! :goodvibes:goodvibes

I'll look forward to keeping up with the CP familiy on FB! :)

Thanks, Christine! I don't think there is any way to keep Disney out of our house. LOL!

Sorry you had to cancel your trip!

But the cottage looks adorable and I'm sure you will have a great time!

Thanks! Yes, I think we will have a lot of fun on the beach this year. It is someplace completely new and different for us.

This time I do sense some excitement from you for this trip. Sorry that it isn't Disney, but you will have great memories for this one too. My family plays board games and spends quality time together at the beach. Connor and Chelsea are the perfect age for this! (It is awesome for Chelsea to have the beach vacation too!)

Debby, I am excited about this one. We love playing board games, so I know we will be packing quite a few to bring with us. I am also hoping to do some fun things around the island like the lighthouse and a dolphin tour. They have a maritime center as well, and I think Connor would enjoy learning about sea turtles and looking at the nests that will be roped off at that time of year. You know how he likes things like that. :goodvibes

Congrats to you for being a good role model for the kids. It does stink being a responsible grown up. Kuddos for being one. (Not that I would expect anything less.).

Awww, thanks, Debby!!! I hadn't thought of it that way!

I am off to find you on Facebook. I am excited to see the cottage and Chelsea's pink reading spot!

Debby

I have a feeling Chelsea and I may be fighting for that spot. Although, I like the screened in porch, too.

Oh Jackie :hug:So very sorry :sad1:

I saw the picture on FB yesterday and the cottage looks absolutely charming :goodvibes I looked up the area and it somewhat reminds me of the OBX and our vacations there :cloud9: Of course I clicked on the dining link and had a lovely low country boil appear right before my eyes! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
The island looks to be teeming with history and I am sure there will be endless things to do. :goodvibes

Tracy

Thanks, Tracy! I love anyplace with a lot of history, and I do love my coastal history and seafood most of all! I know there is a lot of shrimp with my name on it down there.

Aww Jackie I'm sorry to hear about your canceled trip. Although a beach vacation sounds fun; I love the beach so if I can't have Disney it'd be the next best thing :)

Thanks, Cat!

I have got to find out more information about your cottage on Tybee Island. It just looks sooo charming, while it's not Disney I know you all will have a great time and there is always Christmas to look forward too! Lot's more DIS friends to hang out with too!

Anyway, I'm so curious about this vacation spot of yours....:surfweb:

Thanks, Wigd!!! The rental company where we rented our cottage from even has an educator discount...:rolleyes1;)

Send pixie dust our way so we can make it to NYE. I really want to watch fireworks from the Poly with everyone!

Oh sweetie!!!! I just found the news today!!! It is such a big bummer, but let's not focus on that.....let's focus on the fun you are going to have at that adorable cottage instead! You know Mickey will be waiting always! :) It really does stink being an adult sometimes, but you have some big things going on this summer regardless! GOOD LUCK with your schooling!!! Can't wait to hear more about everything---the trip, the home improvements, school, etc!!!

Thanks, Jen!!! I love how you always help me put a positive spin on things!!!

Oh no!! I haven't been on the DIS much at all the last few days because baseball has been consuming my life, then I noticed your post on HDs TR and got worried and headed right over here. I am totally bummed, for some very selfish reasons I might add :sad1:

I am totally bummed about not meeting up now, too. :(

It stinks being a grown up sometimes doesn't it? Really though, the beach sounds like a great trip. You will still have a great vacation, and like you said, Disney isn't going anywhere, you'll be back at some point. :thumbsup2 Of course, you're really testing my FB resistance here, I'll hate not seeing and hearing about your trip!

:rolleyes1 I am sure I will post some pictures somewhere here on the DIS if you stay strong on your No FB stance. :goodvibes

Like MEK, I'm going to need to pick your brain about Charleston, looks like Don & I will be headed there for a long weekend in August to celebrate our 20th anniversary.

Oh, you will love, love, love Charleston! I will be more than willing to help you plan your long weekend!

HA! That is funny! A great lure, CP!!!!

I was wondering if it would help convince Michelle to join us. LOL!

I was a few updates behind from before I left for our trip - was getting so excited with you about all the DIS meets and SWW...then the news. :sad1: I'm so sorry. That just STINKS.

I ran over to Facebook quick too to see the cottage - it does look adorable. I'm certain you will have a fantastic time! And then you'll be coming home to the upgrades in your home and getting that degree. It's good all around. Disney will still be there! And hopefully NYE will work out. :goodvibes

Thanks, Brook! I am excited about our week at the beach! I think it will be a lot of fun!

I agree, being an adult sometimes is really no fun. I love the little cottage. It is so cute.

Thanks! The cottage is a nice compensation! :goodvibes

So sorry to hear about having to cancel the trip, but the beach sounds wonderful. A year off isn't such a bad thing, after all absence makes the heart grow fonder right?

Thanks, Crissy!!! You are completely right! I think taking a year off will make things even more fun when we return!

Thanks! Canceling and postponing can be such downers. :(

Hello.. just a friendly reminder that you still need to PM me your name, so I can locate you on FB. ;)

I am glad you reminded me -- I can be very forgetful. :goodvibes

Jackie - Sorry you had to cancel this year's WDW trip. I can imagine how disappointed you are. Still, post about your beach trip!! Any vacation is still magical when you are with your family, right? :lovestruc

Thanks! I agree! I am glad we are going on vacation period. :goodvibes

I wish there were two vacations this summer. :goodvibes

Texas is fun, too!

The beach vacation sounds great and relaxing. I'm also having visions of Chelsea and a summer romance. She is just the right age for her first crush. I see Conner collecting all kinds of shells and animals and maybe some interesting plants.

I think Chelsea is having those same visions. LOL! Connor will be sure to fill his sand pail with all manner of things.

That sounds like so much fun. My GFs both like seafood, so this is perfect. I absolutely love seafood and like those hole-in-the wall places. Perfect.

Don't be put off when you drive up to it. It looks like a strong wind could blow it over. :lmao:

I figure we will spend the entire day there touring and having lunch. I don't know if we stay for dinner or not, but we will def make a day out of it.

All suggestions welcome!

Okay, if I had only one day to spend in Charleston, here's what I would do...

Drive over super early from Hilton Head (I think it is like an hour and a half drive) and be at Boone Hall Plantation when it opens. Then, I would head into downtown, eat lunch at Hyman's Seafood, take a horse-drawn carriage tour around the historic district -- the best way to see the city -- there are several tour companies but Old South Carriage Company is right by the market, browse through the City Market (make sure you stop and watch the women weaving sweetgrass baskets), and end the day with desserts at Kaminsky's.

There is also a boat tour to Fort Sumter, but I would do Boone Hall over that.

Sorry to hear this Jackie...your pre trippies are an essential part of my pre summer reading year after year...:)....You should try a blog...you write so well and have a lovely family!

Could I friend you on face book>,..can you link me?.or pm me your name/page..i would love to hear all your trip updates!

Maybe.....I've been thinking about it a lot more lately......

Oooooo, I'm glad to hear you mention Boone Hall Plantation, I had written that down in my notes as a possibility. :thumbsup2

I'm still trying to decide where to stay, but I'm leaning heavily towards someplace in the historic district. I really liked the looks of a beach condo, but the price tag attached to it I don't like so much

I just adore Boone Hall! It is so pretty and my favorite of the plantations. Of course, there is also Middleton Place, Drayton Hall, and Magnolia Gardens. Lots to choose from in the plantation department. :goodvibes

As far as a hotel, there are some wonderful hotels in the historic district in all price ranges and styles. I always like the smaller ones, but it depends on what you want from your hotel stay. The Charleston CVB is a good website to browse to see all the different places.

Hey Jackie ~

Doesn't being a grown up stink sometimes?! But I saw your cottage on Facebook and it looks GREAT!! Super cute and just a ton of fun. I'll be excited to see those pictures!!

Newer games that we enjoy that you might want to look into...

What's Yours Like - My card read "Christmas Eve" and I asked: "What's Yours Like?" to my family members (DBs, SIL, Mom) and they pretty much all said well mine's at your house... I couldn't for the life in me figure out what I had borrowed from each of them!!!:lmao:

Phrase 10 card game - it has levels that you must reach like rummy sort of...

Apples to Apples (which is older, so you probably have it.)

Thanks, Katie! I will be sure to document our beach trip with LOTS of pictures! :goodvibes

:lmao: Too funny! I haven't heard of this one! Sounds like fun!

Another one that sounds like fun! Maybe I should take a stroll down the game aisle this morning!

Apples to Apples (which is older, so you probably have it.)

We do have this one! We love it!

A game that you guys would probably like that we got for my MIL's birthday is called The Game of Things! We have had a blast playing that one!

I will be looking into that one. The girls and I are headed to the beach with my family again (trying to get DH to come for a couple days if his schedule will permit.) Without my dad,and with a new baby, I think a new game would be a fantasic idea.

Happy Spring Break, Ms. Jackie!!!

Hope you enjoy a whole lot of nuthin' because sometimes spring break is exactly that!!! Time to do, well, nothing in particular! :goodvibes I know I am hankering for a few days like that! SO many projects and this and thats to do!!! :goodvibes Hope you enjoy the down time and have fun!!! :thumbsup2

Looks like we might be skipping our annual Jan/Feb. Disney trip this year as well. :sad2:

We are planning a trip to Wyoming to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park for summer 2012 and we just can't swing both. Since there's nothing I like more than researching & planning for a vacation, I've been frequenting a Yellowstone/Grand Teton board. It's set up just like the DIS...just not as magical :wizard:. I feel just like a did back when I started planning our early Disney trips. I'm completely overwhelmed with information and all my time is on the computer or in a trip planning book. They even recommend that room and many dining reservations be made 6 months in advance at the very least, but we haven't a clue of where we will be when!

I'm very intrigued by your upcoming plans, but I'm not on Facebook.:scared1:
Is it too much of a pain for you to post a photo of your cottage here on the DIS before you close your PTR? I would love to see it. Thanks Jackie and have fun with all of your planning!!!! :goodvibes

Happy Spring Break sweetie! Mine was last week, so I am SO bummed that I have to go back tomorrow!!!! UGH!!!! I think I need to go start a countdown to the last day of school, because it feels like it is NEVER going to get here!!!!

I will be looking into that one. The girls and I are headed to the beach with my family again (trying to get DH to come for a couple days if his schedule will permit.) Without my dad,and with a new baby, I think a new game would be a fantasic idea.

Oh, yes, get The Game of Things for your beach trip! It is so fun with a big group -- there were times we were crying we were laughing so hard.

Happy Spring Break, Ms. Jackie!!!

Thanks, Happydog! Unfortunately I think this is one of those spring breaks that will fly by because of the to-do list. Chelsea has a doctor's appointment (the scoliosis screening they do at the school detected a slight curve in her spine so we are going to have that checked out), the kids' have dentist appointments to get their teeth cleaned, Connor has his orthodontist consult, I need to write my 500-word educational goal statement for my application :faint: (although I did find a great Walt Disney quote to incorporate into it -- he once said, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island" -- how great is that???), I have to take my car in for a recalled part replacement, and I have a load of stuff to take to Goodwill. Oh, well, it is all stuff that needs to be done, and I will feel better once it is all checked off.

Looks like we might be skipping our annual Jan/Feb. Disney trip this year as well. :sad2:

Wow! I had no idea about all the Yellowstone/Grand Teton stuff. I remember going there with my parents when I was much, much younger. The one memory that sticks out the most is standing and waiting for Old Faithful to erupt. It seemed like we waited forever! LOL!

Yes, I will post the picture of the cottage before I close out the PTR. It is really cute -- I was wrong about when it was built -- it was built in 1924. It's just darling.

Happy Spring Break sweetie! Mine was last week, so I am SO bummed that I have to go back tomorrow!!!! UGH!!!! I think I need to go start a countdown to the last day of school, because it feels like it is NEVER going to get here!!!!

Thanks, Jen! I know I am not going to be terribly thrilled with heading back in a week, but I keep telling myself it will only be six more weeks of school at that point. Thirty school days should be manageable! :thumbsup2
