I think you would make an awesome weather girl, Jackie!
Ha ha! Thanks, MeMom! On Monday Chelsea said maybe she would like to work behind the scenes at the Weather Channel when she grows up. I told her I thought that was an awesome idea. Do you know how happy I would be to have Connor work for Disney and Chelsea work for the Weather Channel? My Christmas letters would be beyond obnoxious.
Connor's
Lego stuff looks fun.
We had a lot of fun with it.
Chelsea's emergency kit is just cute. Jill and I got a kick out of it.
I laugh everytime I see it. She ate the cookies yesterday.
I looked at the donut muffins recipe and noticed a good suggestion from one of the reviewers. They made mini muffins and tossed them with the sugar in a ziplock bag. She said it was like eating donut holes. I will have to give these a try, for sure. Thanks for sharing. I may be making banana bread today, as I have a few bananas that are in need of being eaten.
I like the idea of making them as mini muffins because they are really rich. I love banana bread -- save me a slice!
Now that the snow is pretty much over, the temperatures are going to drop for the next three days. We'll have the low teens every night until Saturday. Seeing 40 on the forecast for the weekend looked very good.
We won't see 40 until Saturday, too. It will feel like a heat wave!
It's nice to have a snow day. More then 1 or 2, not so much. One winter while I was in high school we got a bout 6 inches of snow with almost 2 inches of ice. School was out for 2 weeks. My sisters in college living at home, and my dad was off work with the weather as well. One night after being sick and tired of fighting with eachother and even looking at eachother, dad had a great idea. He said, "Lets just go outside and beat the crap outta eachother." Of course we didn't but it was enough of a shock and ice breaker that we laughed and laughed and still tell that story today. Cabin fever had set in and we were crazy!
Two weeks? Oh my!

Love the story!
I hope all this melts soon and you all can go back about your business. Don't they know you have a Disney trip and all these snow days cannot interfere!?
I think if our Disney trip wasn't so close to the end of school, I would be less stressed about missing all these days. Surely we will be back in school tomorrow. I hope.
Chelsea's emergency box is too funny! I love seeing the kids use beach toys to play in the snow!
How many snow days can you afford until they bump into your trip?
So do you just wait for the snow to melt? Are there any snow plows down there?
You can tell we are more used to playing in the sand than the snow. LOL!
We don't have any snow days built into the calendar. I am hoping they take away the four-day weekend in February and then there is a teacher workday in March they could make a student day.
Atlanta has 11 snow plows, but I read they are getting more in today to help with clearing the roads.
Oh, Jackie, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the snow will melt enough today for you to have school back in session tomorrow! A couple of snow days are fine, but three is pushing it. LOVE Chelsea's emergency kit! I think my diva of a daughter would pack similar things - but instead of Seventeen magazine, it would be her prized copy of Justin Bieber's biography!
Another snow day today. The snow and ice started melting yesterday, but the roads were all slushy. It all refroze last night when the low was 20.
Sorry if I missed this in a previous post, but what exactly is a donut muffin? It sounds like something I must have! They looked good, whatever they are! We're expecting up to 4" of snow tonight and I prepared yesterday by making a batch of brownies and making cookie dough so I can drop cookies tomorrow. But...I used up all of my flour and need to run to the store at lunch to buy more so I can make breakfast tomorrow! I clearly have my priorities in order
Snow Day breakfasts are very important!

Did you get the four inches of snow? I haven't turned on the Weather Channel yet this morning to see what is happening on the east coast.
I also LOVE Connor's Hogwarts Logo set. Was that Professor Snape behind Dumbledore?!? I've gotta get my son into the HP books so that he can be a nerd right along with me!
Yep, that is Snape behind Dumbledore.

Oh, yes, you must get your DS to start reading them. Connor loved all seven of them.
Now, I wasn't there for the Blizzard of 93, but I lived in Atlanta during the Blizzard of 95. Actually, it was only about 1/2" of snow. I was about to drive home from my boyfriend's house, but he insisted it would be safer if he drove me home. He was an ATL native, so he didn't have much experience with driving in snow. I'm a VA native, so I hadn't had much experience up to that point either. I'm sure you can see where this story is headed

He ended up running over a mailbox and destroying my axel! We were OK, but his wallet wasn't, because he had to pay for the damages.
Oh, goodness! How scary!
I like your "Jackie the News Anchor" look! No make up needed! Plus, your hair is perfectly coiffed!
Ha ha! Thanks!
We are getting ready for a foot or more of snow here in RI tonight- but obviously we are better equipped
Is ice a threat as well?
I bet the kids are having a blast! Since the Blizzard of '78 here, a survival kit includes milk & bread- the stores completely empty out of both before a big storm. It always struck me as funny why those 2 things are what everyone feels they can't live without
I know. I haven't touched the bread this week.

However, the milk is going pretty fast since we are using it to make hot chocolate. I think we are eating about four times as much as we normally do.
A good friend lives in Baltimore now and after they survived their snowed in week last year she tells everyone her #1 storm provision is toilet paper

and patience
Have fun!
Patience is something I need a little more of -- we are all getting a bit stir crazy around here.
I'm glad you all got outside a bit and enjoyed the snow. Too much time together inside can equal some fighting. We're on snow day 2 as well and it's started here. We will all be going outside for a little bit today if possible!
You can tell the novelty of the snow is wearing off around here -- Chelsea and Connor only went out once yesterday to play.
Love Chelsea's emergency kit. She knows how to do a snow day!
Cute pictures Jackie. You always have lots of fun around your house it seems.
Thanks! Of course, I left out the parts where I was yelling at the kids to stop tramping snow through the house. LOL!
Snow Cream?!? I think we need to tell hollisterluva92 what is in that snow!!!!!

I had to laugh at the "bundled up" photos of your kids. That's what we wear in our house all winter (minus the hats)!

When my daughter goes outside to play in the snow, she wears: jeans, t-shirt, sweatshirt, 2 pairs of socks, winter boots, snow pants, a scarf, gloves, mittens over the gloves, winter coat and a hat. When we get as much snow as you guys just got, that's just a regular winter day up here in Buffalo.
Hope your snow days don't mess up your Disney plans!
That's about what the kids ended up being bundled in except for the snow pants. My mom took us to Buffalo and Niagara Falls in January of 1991. It was -18 at the Falls and I have never been so cold! I don't know how you do it all winter!
What are doughnut muffins????? They sound amazing!!!
I am really enjoying reading about your plans so far. I know I haven't commented much on your reports but I love reading them very much! I love your style of writing and your family are lots of fun!!!
Julie xxx
Thanks, Julie! Did you see the post on page 17 with the link to the muffins.
We try to have a good time together.
Ooooo, those doughnut muffins look yummy, thanks for sharing the recipe, I think I'll make some this weekend!
Much to the disappointment of my children, we didn't get any snow, a few flakes around lunch time yesterday and that was it. It's fine with me though, I don't want any snow days, we've no time for make up days at the end of the school year with our trip and the last day being so close together. I think ours is even tighter than yours, we've just got a 2 day cushion!
With only a two day cushion you definitely don't need any snow days!

I am going to be a bit stressed until I find out how they are planning on making up these days. I just don't want to have to try and beg to be allowed to miss the last few days.
