As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.
Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young age of 50 .

I'd rather they offer a discount for those who are 25 and under and then 70+. In my experience, it's young adults and the truly elderly who could use the most help.

OP, how many of these have you, personally, done? I ask because I was so psyched about the Big Lots discount (was going to use my mom lol), so I looked it up to make sure and other sites are saying there's a 10% off discount, and I found one site that said there is no discount.

And then KMart - found a site that said 20% off. And Food Lion - site said it's 6% off.

I just called my Publix down in Florida and asked them about the discount because I've never heard of one--they said they don't offer one in the state of Florida, but they do offer it in some other states like GA and Tennessee.

Since many senior discounts are not advertised to the public, our advice to men and women over 55 is to ALWAYS ask a sales associate if that store provides a senior discount. That way, you can be sure to get the most bang for you buck.

Why should a 50 year old person get a discount??? In all likelihood, they are close to their salary peak and are really still in their prime.

I'd rather they offer a discount for those who are 25 and under and then 70+. In my experience, it's young adults and the truly elderly who could use the most help.

Yes, I know though...nobody's asking me.

Or what about those of us in prime kid raising age. Now that's what's expensive

I've been both and AM both. I have a kid in college and I'm at my salary peak AND a single parent. No one has to convince a 30 year old to shop, they want to lure US, the people who have everything already, in their lair to make us spend our MONEY.

I take advantage of the Kroger and Publix discounts all the time. I know they look at me like WHAT? but I show them my license and shut them up. Tell you the truth, it's one of the best things about growing old. You all will be there one day, very shortly!

You'll get it. Look at it as a reward for surviving prime kid raising age.
Remember we were once there also.

We have a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner in my neck of the woods, and my parents, and DH do get 10% off their coffee...unfortunately it has never been free.

My aunt has found out about some of them, mostly the fast food one. She asks for the discount at Wendy's and Arby's, and I think every one knows there's a senior coffee at McD's. She's even told me to ask for it at the drive thru (she's the one paying, I'm the one ordering), and they've never questioned it.
