Ok. We recently became members of the DVC at SS. My DW is a cast member & I figured when we go home later this year, we'll use her cast member discount for the hotel room & sell our DVC points to pay for a good portion of the trip.
I want to make sure I don't violate any rules or codes of ethics or anything, so I figured I'd come on here & ask the experts what the normal procedures are for selling your DVC points on the DisBoards. Once I post the "For Sale" message, get some email inquiries, & decide who to sell to, what next?
My plan is to find out what dates the person is looking for, calling Disney, & making the reservations. Then I'd ask that the person to send a cashier's check or money order for the full amount within, say, 15-30 days. That way, if they back out, I still have time to cancel the res without repercussion. Does this sound right?
Also, what would happen if, say, a month or so before the actual dates arrive, the buyer tells me they have to cancel their trip. Is it my obligation to refund their money? I would think not because 1} I'd be handcuffed with what to do with those points at that late a notice, and 2}the money they paid would already be spent since I'll be using it to pay for my vacation. Do you let the buyer know up front that there can be no refunds given due to these reasons? I don't want to come off as inconsiderate, but in that circumstance, I'd be left holding the bag if they did indeed have to cancel.
I appreciate any input, advice, cautions anyone has with regards to the whole process.
PS Don't worry. When we do sell our points, we've already told ourselves to use the money to pay for our hotel right away, and the rest of the money will be used to buy Disney Dollars so we don't get tempted to use it for other stuff around the house & use it up before our trip.
