Has anyone seen any Segway scooters at Disney? I would think there would be some at Epcot. If so, can you rent them or try them out? Thanks for your time.

I saw them at Epcot over Easter Vacation. I just show CM's or it looked like really important park employee's riding them.

They are really cool. I thought this one guy was going to run someone over, but they stop really fast. Sorry, I don't think you can rent them. My son asked how much they are and the CM told him around $6,000-$8,000. Yikes.

They are at Epcot, some CMs ride them. No, you cannot rent them.

The Segway was initially supposed to be tested at WDW by guests, but due to the suits at Burbank, this was cancelled. Look for Segways at all the parks, but mostly Epcot. Epcot Managers use them along with an exhibit in Innoventions (pSeries) and pepople selling light toys on them (eSeries, stands up on it own without a human on it). If you want to see one, check out Future World around Test Track and M:S before Illuminations, and after Illuminations in the Future World enterence to World Showcase to around Canada.

PS, I'm a huge Segway fan.... :)

I, for one, am happy that they decided not to test them with the guests. I shudder to think what it would be like.

Let me clear it up. It was not like a test but more of a tutoring lession. It would involve a small preview area in Innoventions where 5 CMs would show guests the ropes of the Segway. The guests would ride while the CM had full contorll of the Segway. It would be more like a small sample. Kinda a "Go forward, turn, do a few laps, then get off" type of thing.

Just back on the 26th, I saw a CM on one at ASMO. The only one I saw in a week.

When we were on DCL in January you could pay to try out a Segway.

I just got to ride one last weekend -- have a friend who works for DEKA and owns his own. It was great fun! I highly recommend the experience if you ever get the chance.

Yep, you can rent one on the Disney Cruise. It was $15 for 10 minutes. Normally they are up on the sports deck or on the dock at Castaway Cay. It was raining when I did my ride so I got to ride around the main atrium. I sure did receive some strange looks as people exited the elevators.

It is amazing how easy they are to use to ride. They are very stable but I certainly could see how you could fall off if you goof around on one. The Segway will not fall down but you can loose your balance and fall off!

Disney was asked if they wanted to be an initial location test of the Segway in such a way that would have them renting Segway's to guests much the same they do strollers and things.

In speaking with of the people from WDI who was asked to evaluate the Segway pre-unveiling, Eddie Sotto, he shared that his biggest reservation about doing this was how it would ruin the views at the parks. He said, if I recall correctly, that they didn't like the way the pavilions in Epcot would look, for example, when they had 200 Segways parked out front in addition to the seas of strollers.

I think that it's something of a Catch-22 here. For people to grow used to the Segway, they need to ride it. To ride it, they need a little bit of instruction. Instruction in public places slows things down, but public places are usually the most accessible place to test such things.

We saw the CMs at ASMu using them also.
You know, with EVCs and strollers and everything, I think renting Segs for use in the parks would really congest things. They'd almost need to make a "bike lane" of sorts.
Does anyone agree?

WE jsut got back from WDW and we saw some of them. Mainly at Epcot at Inventions. We talked with the CM's and he told us one of the main reasons we could rent or try them is the trouble with the law suits. He mentioned something about one ridng over the toe of a little boy and or course it being Disney a lawsuit has been filed. He did not mention if it was there or Dl. We also CM's using them in tha parking lot to park the cars.

We live near on of the dealers of them and the price here is between $3000.00 to 4000.00.

I saw one cruising the hallways of the Contemporary, placing the express check-out envelopes on the doors. They are very quiet.

Actually, it's not noticable when you run over someones foot. The tires are ment to run on low pressure for this reason.
