Segway Tour - Weight Limit

Hi!

I took the Segway Tour last December and weighed in about 10 pounds over the Disney limit. No problem at all, no one questioned or weighed me, etc. The tour was WONDERFUL and lots of fun! We're doing it again this January, although I hope to be down to my "Seg-weight" by then. :Pinkbounc
Do you look like you are over the weight limit or do you carry it well? I just booked this and did not realize there was a weight limit...

They mentioned the weight limit to me when I booked over the phone, along with the age restriction. My opinion: in this crazy world of lawsuits, there is a margin of error on that weight limit. The actual tried and true one is probably more like 300 lbs (just a guess, of course). So if you look like you're "around" 250, they probably just let it slide. And if you get hurt and turn out to be higher than the limit, it gives Disney/Segway another out as far as liability goes.

For Dzne Princess:

I guess I look every pound of 260 - but had no trouble at all with the tour, no questions asked and it was a breeze operating the Segway. Doing it again in January! Enjoy!

:scratchin Interesting question.
I also read you had to be over 100 lbs to be able to do this. Now I wonder why that would be? Obviously being under 100 lbs would not be that hard on the "battery" or the "machine".
Do you think they would weigh an adult if they looked under 100 lbs?
I am very interested in doing this as well, but I'm under 100 lbs and my DH is around 250. Yeah, I know we are quite a pair...mutt and jeff. :rotfl2:

When is your trip in January?

I"m also under the 100lb mark. My husband wanted to do this on our upcoming trip. Any chance they will let it slide if your under 100lbs?

Thank you for answering. I have decided to keep it booked, and take the chance of being declined.

Hi Renee
I'm not sure where I read about the 100 lbs. Either on the Disney site or AllEars. :confused3
Maybe somebody on this board will know.

The only thing ever mentioned when booking is the weight limit, not a minimum (at least that I can remember). FWIW, I did this tour last spring with my dd on her 16th birthday...she is petite in stature (barely 5') and weighs about 103. The issue of her size never came up, so really, I wouldn't worry at all. People of all ages were in our group (some quite a bit older) and everyone did great with the machines (er, vehicles). It's a blast...am going again this December.

you want the tour, I would consider doing it with a scooter instead. If the Segway is the reason you want the tour, I would call Segway somehow and Disney tour CMs to get the real scoop direct. You may have to call a few times at Disney for someone to truly share real info with you. I would admit my real weight and see what someone at Disney says about it.

Also, realize you have to be somewhat mobile and agile to get around with a Segway. I wouldn't want to fall on a tour/vacation. You need to be attentive, too. I know they practice with you, but I could see how this could be frustrating for someone who may be less inclined towards sports, etc. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think age, weight, frame of mind, etc. will have alot to do with how you would enjoy doing a Segway.

I'm overweight for my height and build and I'm sports minded, but I think I would pass on the Segway experience even though I meet the technical definition of being able to do it.

Thank you for your responses. And I agree with both of you. :sunny:
I'll make up my mind once I get to Disney and see what it is like. It might be something I really am not that interested in doing. There's lots of other things to do at Disney.

Hi, Dee - and all!

We'll be down January 26-30 for our 34th trip to WDW; 103 days to go! :cool1:

Way to go on the big loss!!! :cheer2: I'm sure you will make your goal.
Weight Watchers is a sensible program and you learn a lot from it.
