Anybody done both? Which did you prefer? Three adult females, ages 22-50ish. We booked Segway, but now we're wondering. Bopping around on the Segway sounds like fun, but having to learn how to do it first? Blah! ;) Plus my mom has rheumatoid arthritis and I'm a little concerned that it might be harder on her joints.

So...should we stick to Segway or switch to Undiscovered Future World?

TIA! :Pinkbounc

I am not familiar with Rheumatoid Arthritis and the joints it effects, but can tell you that operating the Segway uses your feet for forward/backward motion. You ever so slightly roll your toes, and the joints just below the toes for forward motion and the heel of foot for backward motion. You don't use your legs or knees at all..they stay totally stationary as does the rest of your body.

The class itself takes about 45 mins, but it lasts that long only due to the fact that there are 10-15 other people besides you being taught/doing excercises. If it were a one-on-one class, you could have a ten minute lesson and be all set. Really, they are that easy to operate. One lady in our group did have difficulty and they were wonderful with her. Did not make her feel uncomfortable, but made sure when we toured WS in our "duck formation" she was directly behind the instructor. She did just fine.

Honestly, I would discuss your Mom's issues with one of the instructors. They are super helpful and I am sure you could get someone on the phone (even if it meant getting a call back) through WDW-PLAY.

I have never heard of Undiscovered Future World, so I am not help with comparing.

I did both tours and given a choice of only one, I would do the future world tour. While the segway tour was fun and a novelty because I have never riden a segaway before, you spend an hour learning how to use it and only an hour going around the countries closly supervised. You get much more interesting info if you took the world showcase walking tour. Even for a fit person, you feel the effects of the segway in your feet and legs. As for the future world tour, if you are into trivia and seeing how the magic is created backstage, this is the one you should take. It lasts around 3-4 hours and is excellent. We went for example, into ride control rooms, ViP rooms and where they keep the illuminations barge and globe etc.

Have done both, and loved both! Segway is DH's favorite tour, and you will have a chance to hear lots about the countries in the WS )depending on your instructor) and great photo ops with few people in them. Undiscovered Future World (with Robert) was perhaps my favorite tour. We visited many corporate lounges throughout FW, learned about everything from the material in Spaceship Earth to the Disney patented colors in Illuminations. Saw costuming for Epcot behind the scenes, stood in the control room at MS and had a super time. Either will be an excellent choice! Remember the discounts with AAA, AP, DVC, and Disney Visa!

DW & I enjoyed the "learning" part of the Segway tour. :confused3

what is the segway tour? this is the first time I am hearing about it and since everybody's post seem so positive it seems like its something I want to do.
:cool1:

DH has done both. I did not do the Segway with him. He did it last year with a friend.
I don't know about arthritis, but the friend had one hip replacement surgery around a year prior to the tour. And he did not mention being hampered in any way.
But the UnDISCOVERed FW tour is great!
The Segway will last two hours approx. Probably just over 2.

Either one is a treat I think.

:thumbsup2 Both tours are WONDERFUL, but entirely different. As for your Mom's condition, please take into account that the UnDiscovered FutureWorld tour requires you to be on your feet, walking and standing for most of the time. The Around The World on a Segway is something that you will never forget. I've done it twice and plan to do it again some day. Unless her condition is very serious, I think she would be okay. Maybe you can do both? :)

Here you go, http://allearsnet.com/btp/tours.htm :sunny:
You can read all about the Segway tours and all of the other tours offered at WDW. Check out the reviews written by people who have taken them!

We loved the future world tour we took last week.

very informative. Really nice to go behind the scenes. At the end they gave us a pin that you can only get on the tour and we got to watch illuminations from a VIP area as well. There were only 6 of us at the vip area the night we went, and 4 of them were us!!

Did you get the special spot for illuminations because you took the Segway tour? Also, I have heard there is a AAA discount for the tour. Do you know if this is true? TIA :thumbsup2
