Seen Mary Poppins broadway show (traveling)?

Has anyone seen the Mary Poppins show? We have tickets to one of the traveling shows and I would be interested to hear your opinion. I know the actual shows on Broadway are excellent productions but I would like to hear any reports of those who've seen the traveling show.

Does it stick closely to the movie? Do they add any songs or scenes that were NOT in the original movie? How enjoyable was the production you saw? I guess an easy test would be: Did you leave the theater singing the songs with a smile on your face? :)

I took my DGD at age 4 to see this show in Cleveland. We attended the Practically Perfect Tea prior to the show. It was amazing, one of the best shows I've even seen. While she was only three, she sat mesmerized by the entire show! As I was flying home that evening, on the way to the airport we could hear her little voice singing 'feed the birds...' 'lets go fly a kite..'

She is 5 now, and still talks about Mary Poppins, and I often use 'spit-spot' much to her chargin! I'd love to see this show again, and would take her again to see this show. It was magical day! I've even recommended this show for friends without children.

Enjoy! Karen

Sorry, Rhonna, but that is one of the scenes that is different - the park/chalk painting scene involved several 'living' statues from the park and when they go through the picture (I don't think that's what they did, though) they end up at a crazy candy store that fits back in at the end in the George Banks childhood part of the story. It was still bright, energetic and enjoyable - but certainly not the country fair/penguin scene from the movie.
I was most hoping for the laughing scene with Uncle Bert - that's my fav scene in the movie.

So where did they fit in the Supercalifrag... song? It was originally at the end of the animated sequence - with all the "button wearing" entertainers singing it.

Thanks.

I saw it in Chicago almost 2 years ago & it was amazing. I wanted to see it after I got the DVD of Mary Poppins & it had the Step in Time scene as one of the bonus features. Not exactly like the movie, but still really good. Love the Step in Time scene & the Supercalifragilistic scene is awesome.

But WHERE did they put the Supercalifragilistic song in the play if they don't have the animated (going into the chalk sidewalk picture) scene? Is the song in the "new" candy store scene or where? Thanks.

After the children visit their father at the bank - on the way home, at the sweet shop. It's almost at the end of the first act.

Thank you! It looks like they don't have any of the animation scene at all in the play. I really like that portion of the movie. But, that's why I asked now so that I wouldn't be disappointed when we are at the play.

no, the chalk drawing/park scene is completely different. but at the show I saw in Boston, there was a small homage paid to that scene when one of the background characters had a stuffed penguin sticking out of the baby carriage she was pushing! :goodvibes

I'll have to look out for the stuffed penguin - kind of like a hidden Mickey! I loved the afternoon tea scene under the weeping willow tree.
