Does most everyone on here plan on discounts most of the time? I see people book...rebook... cancel..rebook with Fd....etc etc etc....

Seems so stressful to plan that way. Im sure there are those of us that like doing it and trust me i understand why.

What if Disney just decided no FD only discounts on rooms from now on with no warning. Would that eliminate your planned trip?

It seems that i would just book and HOPE for a lucky discount OR just plan to wait and see and take whats available for that particuliar discount.

With all the construction coming up i bet discounts will be ok for this yr for those resorts. And people in the know will have already booked somewhere else before it was too late.

So i seem to see that price is more important than where to most on here?

Guess its just some OCD kicking in. I like to plan............I like to book it.. hope for magic instead of being disappointed in whats left to book. I plan to pay X amount and getting a discount would be awesome to use but dont want it to affect the great vacation planning....

i watched for months of Discounts, no discounts but FD, Fd upgrades, resort upgrades, downgrades,,,,,etc......Im not a last minute planner so id be way too stressed about last minute changes and scheduling. How do you all do it?

Id do a poll but havent figured that out......

PRICE or LOCATION? which do you think is more important? And before flames get thrown, i understand the cost of deluxe, mods, and values in the scheme of ones planning.

We book for when we want to go. If a discount comes out afterwards and it fits what we want to do that is great. So far we have lucked out on a few.

We booked in August of 2009 for our December 2010 trip. In March of 2010, I received a 40% pin code for a deluxe, we were booked already at the Poly. The pin code did not apply to our GV CL room (all were taken with that pin) but for the same price we were originally paying we were upgraded to a TPV room and added 2 nights.

Last September, free dining came out for that trip and was applied to our trip.

For our August trip coming up, room discounts came out. We only got 5% off. Could have gotten a different room at a different resort, but we didn't want to stay anywhere else.

thats what i mean. you booked what you wanted. Magic came your way you used it and are happy about it. You got an upgrade that cost you nothing but a little alertness but would have been happy with your original booking.

I see alot of people book a deluxe or something in hopes of getting discounts and cancel when then dont......really? I just book the max we can afford.. if upgrades etc happen. i am thrilled and happier than if i planned it that way.

I know circumstances(family medical etc) can change plans but thats prob a small %..

I get you... I am one of those who will book a room that I CAN AFFORD with or without a room discount or any dining plan or whatever Disney's promo. If the promo for room only discount comes along, then yes, I will call back to ask for a discount. But if there is no offer, then I am okay with it because I know I can afford it. :) I don't stress out... I don't want that to be part of the planning. I don't worry about package, I only do room only. :)

We book what we want and go into it know what the most amount of money we could end up paying would be. If a promo comes out we apply it. If its a crazy good deal and have to switch to another same level resort or change our dates by a day or 2 we would do it if it made it that much cheaper. But normally we book and then if a promo cones out its a perk. But always hope for a discount of course

A large part of the reason why I bought DVC was to get off the Disney discount carousel. It can be really stressful waiting for discounts and having your trip in limbo until they appear.

Unfortunately people have come to rely upon discounts too heavily. It even goes as far as entitlement. Sure it may be nice to save a little money on a room discount or free dining but I book regardless. I will pay the full price and if a discount comes out then I will have it applied. I am just missing out on the free dining promo on my next trip because I am booked during POP Warner Week. I say "oh well" and will go and enjoy myself, grateful that I can afford a trip to disney after all.:thumbsup2

its like yes id love to stay at GFw/ DXDP. BUt without a 30-40% theres know way. I cant imagine overbooking my budget in HOPES of a yearly recurring offer that may or maynot happen.

Trust me if i could stay at GF with a WL budget id probably do it. BUT im not planning on that scenario....i can wish for "dust" cant i???

I would only go if I have a discount. I have always had one. If the discounts stop so will I. I hope they never stop.

We do the same thing as the PPs. Book the resort we can afford for the dates that we want. If a discount of some kind comes out that we can use, then we'll have it applied. We've changed our days by a day or two but have never had to switch resorts (knock on wood).

I'm with the OP- I don't know why you would book a resort that you know you can't afford unless a discount POSSIBLY will come your way. That seems like a whole lot of wasted time and effort and is just setting yourself up for disappointment. But then I don't get the people who change their minds and switch resorts half a dozen times before they go, either. Do your homework and THEN book your resort. Then stop. :confused3 Or am I just nutz?

We book what we can afford but if a discount comes out we take advantage! We have friends who DON'T try and get a room discount ever, that I don't get. Will we switch resorts to get a discount? Maybe, depending on the circumstances. Would we switch from Boardwalk to CR or Poly during Food and Wine? Nope, but we would switch to the Beach Club

I would only go if I have a discount. I have always had one. If the discounts stop so will I. I hope they never stop.

:thumbsup2 Me too!! Look below at all my trips...NONE OF THEM were full price, and never will be. I could take almost 2 trips for the cost of one if I get FD, and use other tricks to get the price the cheapest possible. We are going back in the fall because we got FD for both trips. Normally i just don't book any trip until a good discount is at least rumored. Will never pat full price, just wait until a discount is offered, if discounts end, so will our annual trip.

I've never been able to use a discount or FD because I have to go when my DH can get off work (very limited) and both my DS & DD can get off school and it's just never matched up with a discount. We have never been able to afford to stay anywhere but value resort or off-site since the kids were born. We did stay ar CBR once when we were first married. We simply cannot afford to go otherwise, and some years we don't go. The flights cost the most for us and so I have to book early to get the best price I can. It would be great to egt a discount, but I have never planned on one and so I don't get mad or disappointed.:wizard:

I can't really book more than a 4 night trip without a discount. So...each year I do a 4 night trip. Some years when Disney offers a good discount, I have been able to extend my trip - which is good for Disney and good for me. Everyone does what they need to do and this year, all I can do is a Value, so will give it a try. Would love to see another 4/3 offer!!!

The 2 tickers below are a special year for us. My DS and DD are going to MNSSHP in September for 3 days and then my DS will be studying in France in the Spring, which is why we are going to DLP, so we can see him during his spring break. I'm still trying to figure out how to get extra work to pay for the Spring trip.

we only go once every 5 yrs so we can afford to really have a good time at where we want....Like a pp we never seem to fall into discount or fd dining periods. Once i schedule my week off(work requires a yr out request for full weeks), i then book flights, resorts, etc. so my dates arent very flexible.........

They inflate the rack rates so that they can turn around and discount them and still make a profit. People always want to think they got a good deal.

We are lucky enough to go every year but we always book what we can afford. Thankfully we are able to go deluxe each trip - discount or not. We have been able to get a discount through AAA the past few years because we have always gone in Aug. just before free dining and most times when there are no Disney room discounts. For us free dining has never been a good deal since paying rack rate for a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk or Beach Club would be much more than a room discount. We are grateful for AAA's discount each year but if that wasn't available we would still be going and still would be staying at BCVs or BWVs. I agree with all those that said you should book what you can afford and if something better comes out you can always upgrade.

Unfortunately we don't have but 1 week a year, at most, that we can go - so for us, a discount is a bonus.
So far, the last week of Feb running into March seems to always give us a decent discount.
That being said we are the type who make our budget around paying rack rates and count any discount towards spending money. Coming up with a couple hundred more for food and fun only a couple months out sure beats planning around the discount for us. :goodvibes
