Soon after the new resorts were added to the exchange options, there was a post that indicated that there was a Sedona location. I can't find one on the website, and wonder if anyone is familiar with this. I'm thinking maybe it's not actually in Sedona, but nearby. I'm looking for something within driving distance of the Grand Canyon.

There used to be an exchange in Sedona for a resort called Los Abrigados. I checked my 2002-2003 member guide and no longer see it under the Arizona list. Perhaps it was dropped. I have noticed this happens. There use to be a resort in Ireland and I have noticed now that I am going to Ireland that this resort has been dropped. I would call member services and ask about the the resort I mentioned above although it probably would require a week stay since it was not in the Concierge Collection. There is a resort called the Biltmore near Phoenix if you are flying into Phoenix. This is about a 4 hr drive from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I have been to Sedona and the Grand Canyon twice in the last 4 years. Sedona is about 2-2 1/2 hours from the Grand Canyon and is phenomenally beautiful itself. If you want to spend an few bucks $300-400 per night try the Enchantment Resort. I think it is http://www.enchantmentresort.com. If you are on a Budget there is a Best Western in Sedona that is reasonable - $100 to 150 per night. I have stayed there as well when passing through enroute to a river raft trip through the Grand Canyon. Good luck!

I second what BobH said above, we were at Sedona 2 summers ago when we were in Phoenix, and Sedona was absolutely "beautifull"!!

P.S. If anyone visits Sedona make sure you take the "Pink Jeep Tour"..........http://www.pinkjeeptours.com/

When in Sedona be sure to visit Talaquipaqui (I'm sure I misspelled it, but it's pronounced Ta-lack-e-pack-e, ) It's a neat little shopping center in a beautiful setting. Lots of architectural details -- arches, fountains, Mexican tiles, etc. Also check out Robert Shields jewelry store on the main street. You may remember him from Shields and Yarnell, the mimes who were famous, probably in the 70's. He designs jewelry, mostly whimsical and American Indian.

Pack plenty of film. You'll need it. The red rock formations are beautiful. They change constantly depending on the sun, clouds, rain. We spend a week in Phoenix about every four years and I always spend a day in Sedona. It's also quite a bit cooler than Phoenix. We have never been to the Grand Canyon, but may go there on our next trip to Phoenix next January.

Though not on the list that I've seen from DVC, the two Premier resorts at Los Abrigados are worth considering. Contact DVC, maybe by email, as they're always adding and deleting things throughout the year and are not very good at keeping members informed in this area.

I think you posted with this question before (and didn't get an answer). Although they did mention a Sedona resort, the description of one of the resorts said it was "near Sedona". I looked it up and then didn't come back here with the info because I didn't know how to link from the .pdf files in the Member Site. I'll take another look and see if I can get some info to share.

Update -- My computer tends to be tempermental with Adobe Acrobat. I can't seem to get into the DVC files tonight. :(

On the DVC vacation planner, it listed one resort in Cave Creek (The Villas of Cave Creek). This is north of Phoenix about 45 minutes. This is a really nice area. It also lists two in Scottsdale (Four Seasons Residence Club and Orange Tree Interval, a Shell Vacation Club). Scottsdale is just northeast of Phoenix. There were some others that were farther east or south around Tucson.
I hear Prescott is a really nice area, but it's still quite a ways to the Grand Canyon from there. Actually, on the map it appears that the Grand Canyon is quite a bit closer to Las Vegas than most places in Arizona are.

We lived in Las Vegas for 4 years and I never knew anyone who did a day driving trip to the Grand Canyon. The Northern Rim is closed in the winter. The Southern Rim is open year-round but there is no good way to get from Vegas to the South Rim. I think the North Rim is 6-7 hours from Vegas.

The Grand Canyon is drive-able as a day trip from Sedona, but is 5-6 hours from Scottsdale.

No matter what it takes, seeing the Grand Canyon is worth it.
