We're planning to go to Scottsdale in the spring. We've been before so we want to do something different for a day. Thought about grand canyon, but 4 hour drive one way is not appealing. So, we decided to go to Sedona for day. I'd like to go on a tour maybe, jeep, hiking, rafting (no helicopter). Is anyone familiar with things to do in the area? Shops, restaurants, anything? DDs will be 13 and 11 at the time. Thanks.

We went to Sedona this summer. We took two back to back one hour "trolley" tours. They are buses that look like a trolley. They each did a different side of Sedona. I found them by googling. They were probably also on Trip Advisor. There is also a Pink Jeep tour. Google is your friend! Just look up either pink jeep tour or look up trolley tour. It is a beautiful place! Have fun.

We stayed two years ago (3 days Page/2 Grand Canyon/4 days Sedona). Definitely the Pink Jeep tour if you can swing it, it's worth the money. (Broken Arrow/Scenic Rim tour is the one we went on).

Other than that just walking around is fantastic, take a hike on Cathedral Rock. You'll be sorry it's only a day trip, I think this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. (Family agreed).

There's an upscale shopping area called Tlaquepaque. http://www.tlaq.com/

Our favorite place for lunch is Shugrues http://shugrueshillside.com/ We love sitting outside on the patio.

Several different tour groups offer jeep tours. They aren't all pink, and some of them are considerably cheaper than others.

If you drive north from Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon is quite scenic. If the weather is warm enough, your boys would probably love slide rock. http://azstateparks.com/Parks/SLRO/

Just a heads-up -- the road between Sedona and the freeway is narrow and very congested.

We really loved Sedona!
Did the Pink Jeep Tour ('you gotta do it!' unless you have vertigo! :faint: )
If it is still true, Pink Jeep is the only one with access to the areas where the most spectacular tour is.
Hiked to the Natural Arch
Slide Rock
And, the place, I forget the name, where all the postcard photos are taken of the Cathedral Cliffs across the water. (there was a rope swing for DS just up from the main area there)

A day there would be wonderful, no matter what you choose!
Tripadvisor was invaluable in planning that trip.

Sedona is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Stayed at the Enchantment resort absolutely spectacular.....great place to have lunch with spectacular views of Boynton canyon.

So many hiking trails in the area. I hear the jeep tours are a lot of fun.
Happy planning:goodvibes

I just came back from the Sedona Mountains this weekend! How timely this thread is! We did the Pink Jeep tour AND horseback riding as a package. The pink jeep tour is VERY bumpy, but very fun. It is breathtaking! My girls wanted to do zip lining nearby but we didn't have time.
The Pink Jeep tour and horseback riding for the 3 of us came to $495. :faint:

We did Sedona last summer and loved it. We definitely plan to go back, three days simply was not long enough.
Pink Jeep tour was awesome, our DD loved that. We did the Broken Arrow tour I think.
Hiked all over the place, went to Slide Rock.
Found a nice pizza place called Mona Lisa Decadent Pizza. Also ate at a deli, but can't recall the name of that one.
We stayed at the Wyndham Sedona Resort.
One of the most beautiful places we have visited. Climbed Bell Rock at sunset, amazing.
I used Trip advisor to help plan out the trip.

The Enchantment Is one of my favorite resorts. The place is gorgeous AND the Mi Amo Spa is AMAZING!! The rest of Sedona isn't bad either. ;)

We were in Sedona for a few days in June and also did the trolley tours. They were a great way to see the sites without committing a good part of the day. We then went back in our car to see our favorites again. We loved sedona and hope to get back there again.

We just did an extended family trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon during Summer 2014 - 6 days in Sedona, 3 in GC, 1 in Phoenix. It was amazing! We were split between Wyndham Sedona and Arroyo Roble Resort.

Two family favorites:

Pink Jeep Broken Arrow Tour - There are other jeep companies, but Pink Jeep is the only one with access to this trail. It is sooooo worth it!

Blazin' M Cowboy Cookout & show- This is actually in Cottonwood. You could do morning/day stuff in Sedona and hit Blazin' M on your way back to Scottsdale. The whole family ages 7 to 78 LOVED Blazin' M.

Just a note about Slide Rock - It was on our agenda, but the park was closed due to the recent fires in the Sedona area. Check to make sure it is open before driving up there.

I spent 3 nights in Sedona in September last year. We walked the West Fork Trail instead of doing a jeep tour. We also caught the Verde Canyon train for something different.

If you head to the second post of this thread (link here), from the 17th September onwards, you'll find my take on what we did and ate in Sedona.

Lisa Pisa was one of those places we ate at; as was Elote.

Have fun with the trip. We loved Sedona.

Thanks for all the great information! I'll definitely have to book a pink jeep tour...that sounds great! I'll check out trip advisor too, to see how much we'll have time for.
