Again, it is because it is WDW and there are kids everywhere. They don't need to have CMs standing at each trunk with keys in their hands. Kids would be climbing in and out of the trunks all day long if they didn't keep them locked.

They already have a number of salespeople walking the floor. They would not need to station people at every trunk. One person with a keys is all they need. I really doubt there are very many requests to look in to a trunk. The kids don't climb in and out of the cars all day long so why would they be climbing in and out of the trunk?

You must not work anywhere there are a lot of kids. They can and will climb on and into just about anything. All it would take would be one child to get locked in a trunk and one parent to freak out, and Disney would be sued. And that would probably be the end of the display cars. It makes perfect sense to not leave the trunks unlocked. If you want to think it is silly and be upset over it, then more power to you.

It's been a law since 2001 that new passenger cars have to have an interior trunk release:

Great!! I'm not sure a small child would know how to use the release though, if they were to get locked in. I can still see it being a liability issue. Even if the sales people are walking around with keys, just in case, there's still the chance it can get left unlocked. Disney is most likely trying to cover their behinds.

I was looking at the Chevy Trax in the car lot at the end of Test Track. I like the looks and I am thinking about buying one. I was trying to open the trunk when a sales lady came up and said hello. I asked her how to open the trunk. She told me the truck is locked shut and cannot be opened. I asked why that was so. She replied that it was for my safety. And she said it with a straight face. Seriously? Opening a trunk is a safety issue? Well I won't be buying a Trax and I won't be buying any car from the Disney lot. Beware the Trax, it has an unsafe trunk.

I am not upset, I am blown away. I can't imagine how anyone could think that looking in a trunk was a safety issue. I have been looking in my trunk all my life and never got injured.

the trunk is not unsafe and thats not what the lady was saying.
its for safety reasons that the trunk is locked (ie kids would want to climb in and shut the trunk on themselves or kids and adult alike could potentially slam their fingers etc...) its not because the trunk is unsafe.

how about you go to your local chevy dealer where you can look in the trunk and stay away from epcot.

I'm sorry, but, have all of you people just recently moved out of a cave or something. The cars in Disney are not for sale. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even have an engine in them. They are for display. People with clipboards are there to answer questions about the cars themselves and to take information so that you can eventually make contact with a place that really can sell you a car.

For your safety... Well, just off the top of my head there has been some wild rumors floating around the we, as a planet, have been having some, minor, problems with terrorists organizations. People on rides at Disney can and do carry backpacks, bags and more. It would be a great idea to just have the trunks open up where something could be left off in it and the person just walk away wouldn't it.

If the OP didn't post this as a joke... then there is something seriously wrong with them.

It makes sense to lock the trunk at the Epcot display. It's different than checking out a car at a dealership.

Like others have said, there are multiple vehicles there on display, and face it, we're not perfect. Noone is watching each car 100% of the time. Trunks automatically are locked when closed. I could see a kid opening the trunk, climbing in, and it closing on him/her. Parents freak out because they can't find their kid. Kid is freaking out because he/she is locked in a trunk. ...or the potential for slammed fingers.

Just not a good idea all the way around. It may not make sense right away, but when you think about the potential for problems....

Oh, Seiler - you always have the most interesting thoughts regarding your park visits. My first thought was Disney doesn't want any hands being crushed by slamming trunks.
