Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

Ok Have heard this a few times not really 100% about it if so can someone correct me.

The EPCOT Sphere would fit into the aquarium of the living seas and still have room around it.

There are a few other facts about the volume of water etc but for the life of me I can't remember.

I couldn't find that fact in my "Epcot Fun Facts" I have downloaded, but did see that the aquarium is 5.7 million gallons (which is all filtered every 2 hours!), calls for 27 truckloads of sodium chloride (table salt), and holds more than 2000 fish, sharks, rays, dolphins, and other sea life.

It also measures 200 feet in diameter and is 27 feet deep. And is the most fortified structure in the entire WDW resort!

As far as other fun facts, I always remember the one that it would take 20 million cans of Coca-Cola to fill the huge Coke cups at the All Star Sports resort!

someone had a REALLY cool comparison between the "original" mermaid and the repainted "Ariel" Mermaid - Maybe it will get posted later!

You mean these. :rolleyes1

Wow that's rude.
Actually all my items are factual.
Again, speaking first hand from working there.
You don't believe me, ok that's your choice....but don't say I'm wrong.
You are quite correct in that over 10 years ago the word "clear" was used to denote an attractive guest. However, the word "clear" is not currently used in that manner. And that's a fact.
As for your story about where the name came from...I don't know where you got it but I worked there before 1996 and we called him Chief Namee then so I question your facts.
Well, here's what I said:
Trader Sam (the character's original name) was renamed Chief Namé in 1996 for the MK's 25th Anniversary. As the story goes, Jungle Skippers were invited to submit entries to rename the character "CHIEF _______." One wise-acre skipper wrote "NAME" in the blank... and was shocked when it won. It's worth mentioning that at Disneyland he's still known as Trader Sam.
So I decided to do a little fact checking earlier today, and went down to the Jungle Cruise before they opened. I spoke to two senior skippers who between them have over 40 years experience at the attraction, figuring if anyone would know, they would.

The story I gave is correct, except it happened in 1990 for the MK's 20th Anniversary (not the 25th). The winning skipper's name was Bill E., and in addition to bragging rights that he renamed the character, he was also given $50.00 in Disney Dollars. Ironically, he was terminated not long afterward, and was last seen several years ago working at Universal Studios.

I apologize for giving the wrong anniversary.

EDIT: One of the skippers I spoke to was actually on the MK 20th Anniversary Panel and helped pick the winner.

If you don't agree, the ok you can have your opinoin
But these forums are supposed to be civil so I don't want to get into a debate or arguement.

There are a few people you can't argue with - Robo, Buzz Litebeer, and all of the mods. Because 99.99% of the time, they are right.

I don't know if this has already been posted...because this is a long thread. But in Haunted Mansion if you look closely at that ballroom scene you'll notice the women are leading the men on the dance floor. This wasn't the way they were designed as they are projected by mirror image into the ballroom and they didn't think about the mirror image being reversed when it was projected.:goodvibes

I was thinking about printing this off to take for the plane ride. Is there a way to do so without printing from each individual page?

The only way I know is to copy and paste into a Word document. :confused3 I bet someone more technologically savvy would be able to advise you. Could check over on the Tech Board.

apparently so, spaceship earth's diameter is 165', trimmed from 195' to save money.

We were also told that the Spaceship Earth sphere would fit into the aquarium during our Dolphins in Depth tour :thumbsup2

I can't believe I have something that no one has shared yet! (I think... my brain is numb after reading 42 pages!) If you go inside the tree at Pooh's 100 Acre Wood in Magic Kingdom, you can see a small nautilus carved above the door frame in tribute to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride which was there previously :goodvibes Here's a pic of it from 2005:

Those hidden "jacks" are awesome! I wish I could spot them on our upcoming trip. BTW, those pics would be great in the "details" POTD!:thumbsup2

Sorry folks, I tried to share some stuff with you, but this board has just proven to be too difficult to work with. With warmest regards, I bid you farewell.

Wow I just have to say I love this thread I can't wait each time I see its updated to see the new facts!! Thank you everyone for the contributions!!!

You know the last part of the Haunted Mansion ride where you step off.... well, what happens if you stay on? Isnt there some room in there that you would see between the unloading area and the loading area?

Anyone know? Anyone ever stayed on to find out? :3dglasses

Wow, that's cool! But it's not a nautilus, it's just a fish. I hope I remember to look at it next time I go there!

I've seen it myself and attempted to take a picture of it, and trust the picture does not give it justice at all. If you look carefully on the pic, you'll notice that if it were a fish, the tail would be really out of proportion to the rest of this fish. Also try to imagine the silhouette of the Nautilus, and you'll see it in the carving.
