Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

OK, this is from 1982, and I only made it to page 16 of this thread before my eyes started to run off my face, but in the HM, in the main hall, during the spiel, at the end- if you look up in side the tower as the lights go out/lights flash, you'd see a body hanging. It wasn't every time though.

Two quick points:

1) It's there every time.

2) I'm not sure I'd call that a "secret or little-known fact".

Speaking of that scene: in response to a PP, the gargoyles say "Stay together" in overlapping voices. So now you know.

Speaking of HM... I just went on the backstage tour and here are some things to keep your eyes oprn for (sorry if some have mentioned).

There are six hidden "jacks" from nightmare as a homage to the DL version. Two are in the library near the table, the other four are in the attic. The easiest one to see is under the second husband's portrait (first one on the left), Jack is on the cover of the book on the floor.

The man who hangs himself actually has his own protrait in the mansion, he's holding the nuse (still wearing it) in the left hand and the axe he used to cut himself down in the right.

The man with the dog in the graveyard scene is the same man who is getting poked in the butt on Jungle Cruise... you may have noticed they both have the same scared expression.

Grandma from CoP is also in the Ballroom scene.

Each scene in the attic has the following elements: a pair of porcelain dolls: the man is either laying down or missing his head - sometimes both, a marriage certificate, and she gains a set of pearls for each husband she kills.

There are a lot more, but those are good for now!

I went back and read all the new posts too! Nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon. Though friends of mine would argue, why don't I go over to the Kingdom??? I could use a Dole Whip.

2 things about Living With the Land:
Someone mentioned the AAs from Western River Expedition being used there--I believe it's the two bison in the prairie scene. Also, there is an upper window in the farmhouse that is only visible to people dining in the Garden Grill restaurant. Don't know exactly what you see--maybe someone has pics? I keep meaning to eat there and see for myself!

OH--and last time I rode Pirates, the AA in the burning village scene who was balancing the hats on top of the chest, with one foot in the boat? (he's off to the left just before you go into the tunnel) His hats were GONE!!! Where did they go? Are they back yet? hmmmm.

I don't know why no one has posted this yet - is it because everyone knows it? Probably. But I'll say it anyway.

Do you know how many bricks were used to make Cinderella's castle?
Zero! It's not made of bricks at all! I think it's plaster? Or something stronger than that, maybe, that is made to look like bricks.

Once this lady tried to sue Disney, saying that she was hit by a brick falling from the castle, but she was quickly proven wrong.

Also, for the wintertime, when they put all the holiday lights on, each strand is dyed to match the part of the castle that it will be going on, so that you cannot see them (or they are at least not as apparent) in the daytime.

Thinking back to the ride, I can't say I remember seeing it, so I wouldn't be so quick to judge that everyone knows its there.

Along with the "brick" lawsuit... Disney was also sued because a women claimed her ear drums popped during the Hydrolator in the Living Seas... too bad the elevator didn't actually move! The ground just shook and it was made to feel like it moved, but you'd stay on the same level and go out the other end!

Does anyone have pictures of any of these?:bitelip:

awesome thread!
Here be mine
In the ballroom scene in the HM the pictures that are shooting at each other are modeled after two of the AA's in POTC.
I'm actually really surprised that no one has posted this one yet:rotfl:

i just got through reading all 34 pages of this. thanks for all the info. just wanted to sub here too

I actually ate lunch with the imagineer that put that in. He also told us that on one of the crates by the bone excavation place he put the initials R.D., which stands for Rocket Dog, his dog's name.

cool. i need to find that box and get a picture with it...my initials are also R.D. haha. do you know exactly when it is.

I don't disagree that not everyone notices every effect -- but the body of the Ghost Host ("Of course, there's always my way.") is a major effect that goes off every time.

Returning to the thread topic: Many HM fans know "Great Caesar's Ghost" is one of the happy haunts sitting at the table in the ballroom. However, eagle-eyed guests might also spot a second Caesar floating in from the hearse parked just outside the ballroom doors.

Wow!! That's awesome!!

Hopefully I'll remember to look, although I get SO nervous on ToT that I can't promise I will!!

I've only been on the Paris one, which isn't randomised, so I'm going to be extra extra scared for the WDW one!!

I didn't see this when I was on the DCA ToT last year either, and I know it wasn't part of ToT at WDW in 2003 when I was there last. This was an enhancement they made at some point. I also thought I had seen it wrong the first go around, but I rode it again, and we stopped for about 2 seconds right in front of the people. I love little enhancements like this! :thumbsup2

Not sure if it's true or not, but...I remember reading somewhere that there are different Aerosmith songs that play on Rocking Rollercoaster and that some of the lyrics were changed to "Fit in" with the roller coaster theme-ex one was changed to "making love in a roller coaster."

btw love all these inside secrets, so intriguing... i'm so subscribing now! Keep them coming!

This is true. There are differents songs playing on each "limo." Here's the current list, courtesy of Wikipedia:

Songs heard on each car (Car license plate)
  • 1QKLIMO: "Nine Lives"
  • UGOGIRL: "Love in an Elevator" & "Walk This Way"
  • BUHBYE: "Young Lust", "F.I.N.E.*" & "Love in a Roller Coaster"
  • H8TRFFC: "Back in the Saddle" & "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"
  • 2FAST4U: "Sweet Emotion"
Note: These songs may change due to maintenance or technical reasons. There is no guarantee that a particular track will be playing in the mentioned coaster train.

I must always ride in UGOGIRL because I only ever hear Love in an Elevator and Walk This Way! S'okay - I love those songs!

wow I didn't know that :o
thats pretty cool I must always be in 2FAST4U because all I ever hear is "sweet Emotion". Wait there was one time in H8TRFFC because I remember "Dude( Looks Like a Lady) to.

I was reading a trip report by a DISer (girlbomb), and at one point she mentioned sticking around after the preshow in Haunted Mansion to hear the whispering voices at the end of the stretching room. That got me to thinking that there are probably MANY of these little known treasures in our favorite rides.

There's the obvious, like the place setting in the HM in the shape of a Hidden Mickey, and maybe lesser known ones (at least to me :lmao: ). Enlighten the group with your hidden treasures within Disney shows/rides/attractions!

You are right. Every rides have these small but un expected little treasures waiitng to be unearthed.
There are hundreads of them according to a friend of mine who is a regular visitor

This may be common knowledge as I am new here and havent had time to read all of this thread yet, but has anyone noticed the figures of the lost guests on the TOT. I noticed on my last visit that during the middle of the fall, you get a split second view of the 3-4 guests out in front of the ride vehicle as the lights dimly flash. I had to ride twice just to get a good enough look to make sure I wasnt seeing things, but the figures are actually there. Kinda freaky.

There are actually the 4 guests that disappeared from the elevator. One drop shaft has the man and women and the other has the nanny and girl. Also the letters in the glass case in the lobby were removed because they were not approved by management. A showkeeping cast member did it and management didnt like it. I dont think it will be back.
