my youngest has a loose front bottom tooth. I noticed today while brushing it that the secondasry tooth is already coming in behind it. None of my other kids had this happen-I called the Pediatric dentist, but the nurse said since he's not inpain he can wait until Friday. Will it need to be removed? The baby tooth is loose, but not that loose- maybe I'll just give him apples and corn on the cob for dinner!

My DS (oldest), had the same thing happen. The permanent tooth started coming in before the baby tooth was even very loose. And it was *way* behind where it should have been. Our dentist wanted to take a "wait and see" approach so that's what we did.

The baby tooth eventually fell out and the permanent tooth has slowly but surely moved into a normal position. (He lost the baby tooth about a year ago and the permanent tooth has completely grown in now.) If he's not in pain, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

this is what happened to my 2nd child! I panicked, but dentist squeezed me in and assured me she is just fine. The tooth will eventually move into its right place.

The baby tooth has now fallen out,, and the new tooth is still noticeably behind it (It just fell out 10 days ago) but I can already see it moving forward.

If he is not in pain. Do not worry!

We are in the middle of the exact same thing (x2) with DS. My Dh was seeing sky-high orthodontic bills in our future, but our dentist told us that it wasn't anything to worry about for now and that it will most likely reposition itself overtime. :)

Looks pretty funny though, doesn't it?!:scared1:

This happens with all of my DD's teeth! Her bottom two were breaking in (and way out of position) before the baby teeth came out. Low and behold, once the baby tooth fell out, the permanent tooth moved to the exact spot!

DD is about to loose her first top tooth and once again, the permanent tooth is coming in and the baby tooth is not ready to fall out yet.

Same thing just happened to ds#3 He would not wiggle the lose tooth out and the new one was about 3/4 the way through, then it he felt it hanging then finaly pulled it out .now the other bottom tooth is coming in and he will not touch the lose tooth. After 3 kids im just not worried as I was with the first born. My oldest son had to have just about every baby tooth out becuse the baby teeth did not want to leave:rotfl: . As long as there is no pain and the teeth is lose I would leave it alone and have him kept wiggling it.

My DD has "shark teeth" too. Her TWO bottom teeth are fully erupted and her baby teeth have yet to fall out. She looks really, really freaky. Our dentist is also not concerned.

We have had this happen now three time with my DD. I took her in and they just went ahead and pulled the teeth in front. She (who is a baby about pain) never batted an eye. The tooth fairy brings extra money for dentist pulled teeth :rotfl2: The reason we had them pulled was so that her teeth would move up and fill in the space and I didn't have to freak about braces quite yet. I am happy to say all three of those teeth did move up and she looks normal again. ;)

I'd wait a few weeks to a month and then if the baby tooth still hasn't fallen out, try going to the dentist. For these types of things you really just have to eyeball it.

This hapened to one of my DD13's bottom front teeth when she was six, luckily it wasn't that bad, even though the tooth had completely grown in. She's the only one who this has happened to (so far) unless my DS's impacted wisdom teeth count. It just fell out when it was ready which didn't take long. The new tooth was directly behind the baby tooth and shifted in perfectly once it fell out. She was happy that she wouldn't have a big whole in her mouth, though at the same time complained "But no one can tell I lost a tooth!"

However, one of the last teeth she lost (this was just a year ago) was a front tooth (the third one in) which had the adult tooth coming in, but it didn't look so good. It was coming in on a diagonal because the baby tooth was blocking it, actually pushing it forward a bit. The tooth would not fall out, wasn't even loose, I couldn't get an appointment at the dentist (took me three months for them to look at my chipped molar) so I just had to keep telling her to tug on it. Finally after about two months it came out, but the adult tooth was messed up. The one on the other side came in beautifully and looked perfect, but the shape was off (which may have caused the problem) and the gum was up pretty high, exposing a lot more of the tooth. It did shift back to where it was supposed to be, but it's still a little more forward than it should be. She hasn't neeeded braces or anything, you really don't notice much of an irregularity unless you examine her mouth.

Just keep a good eye on it, there's no need to fret unless it's looking really irregular. :thumbsup2

My DD was 5.5 when we noticed BOTH front bottom secondary teeth were coming in behind the baby teeth! The dentist advised us that she may need to pull them, but we really did not want to go that route. We made a conscious effort to wiggle the baby to loosen them. The adult teeth were more than half way out before we got both baby teeth out. Now they have moved out nicely into place in line with the other baby teeth. There is only a slight crookedness to one of the adult teeth, but nothing major. We are all glad we waited! :woohoo:

Most of DDs teeth came in this way. She hated anyone touching the wiggling baby teeth, so the new tooth just pushed the baby tooth out. There was one tooth that was so far out and was coming in funny so we pulled the baby tooth out of the way. Within a week the new tooth was straighter.

Mine came in this way when I was a kid, just eventually moved into place once I lost my baby teeth.

All of my adult teeth came in that way. Almost all of my baby teeth were pulled out by the dentist because they would never loosen even with the adult teeth fully grown in behind them.

This happened to my ds. The new adult front teeth came in behind his baby teeth. They were completely up before the baby ones fell out. As others have said, the adult teeth just move forward somehow and now about 5 months later, I can't tell that they just didn't come in in the normal slot.

Don't worry. This happens all the time. I am a dentist and see this frequently. The tooth will need to be pulled when your pediatric dentist feels it is not coming out on its own. Just tell him he is so special to have extra teeth right now. Most kids love anything that makes them special.

I love this! We're calling our DD "sharky" right now! Same thing - hasn't lost any yet, but she's growing extra! Hopefully she saves money like she's saving her teeth when she grows up. :rotfl:

My DD 8 has that problem with three of her bottom teeth. We were refeered to an orthodontist because i assumed that she would need braces. He told us not to worry and that when her bottom baby teeth fell out, her tongue would gradually force the back teeth forward. It still doesn't mean that she wouldn't need braces. Her baby teeth have fallen out and we are just waiting for the teeth to move forward.

I am glad someone asked this question.
I have one child. She is turning 6 this August and her baby teeth have not fallen out. However, I observed her second tooth coming in behind the baby teeth in the bottom row.
Being that she is my first child and all. I immediately became concerned. I started thinking braces, mouth surgery LOL all kinds of crazy stuff. Then I found this topic, and I am soooo glad I did. Hopefully as many of you have said, her tooth should move into place. All of my teeth are straight and I never had a problem. It is Saturday so no way for me to call the dentist.

This happened with all four teeth my ds has lost so far. The bottoms were the worse b/c he really didn't want to wiggle the baby tooth, so the adult teeth came in very crooked and thus far don't seem to be straightening out. Our dentist said it's best to get that baby tooth out asap so the adult teeth can come in straight. My ds had a perfect baby tooth smile and now his new teeth are crooked. So from my experience I just recommend having your child wiggle the heck out of the baby tooth.

Haha... this is an old thread and I posted last year. Here's my update since it's kind of relevant:

My daughter (sharky) ended up getting three permanents in the following fall, and her ped. dentist sent us to an ortho for a consult. He had us get six baby teeth pulled (six front on bottom) to make enough room for her permanents. While the two front teeth were beginning to get wiggily, as soon as those permanents started moving up they kind of wedged the babies in and they didn't really wiggle at all so they definitely needed to be pulled.

She's doing great now, but she does have a space maintainer (retainer) and willl definitely need braces once her permanent teeth are all in. On a good note, though, her top teeth are starting to fall out on their own (whew!)
