Going to Florida for the first time on october 18 and its my daughters 8th b/day the next day,as she loves dolphins and whales so much we thought we'd go to seaworld that day.
Can anybody tell me if the shammu whale show is just once a day or can you catch it anytime. Also any suggestions on where to eat at seaworld. Many thanks in advance

To the best of my recollection there are several (at least 2-3) shamu shows a day (certainly at the busy times of year, anyway)

Have a look at this link for the dining options..

... we only eat 'fast food' at Seaworld, and most of the time we've enjoyed the fajitas at Mango Joes Cafe (near Shamu stadium, big queues if the show's just kicked out!)... we sort of got the impression from other visitors that the best restaurant dining options at Seaworld are more about the surroundings and the theming and not too hot on the grub!!

It's a great place.. don't forget to 'do' Kraken!

We've also eaten at Mango Joe's - it's right by the Wild Arctic. Definitely time your arrival for during, not just after, one of the Shamu shows! Having said that there is a new shopping/dining area over the other side of the lake which may be worth investigating.

When we've been there, there have been at least 2 main Shamu shows, plus a Shamu Rocks America show at the end of the afternoon, which is different.

Also don't miss feeding time at the dolphin area. You buy a few fish for a few $ and the dolphins feed from your hands. Your 8 year old should be just tall enough to do this if she's brave enough. In October it should be quiet enough for you to turn up at or just before the published time for one of you to queue to buy your fish (get lots - it's definitely worth it!) while your DD and someone else get a good spot by the pool. The dolphins will come to you wherever you are, though.

There are hand washing facilities right beside the pool - scrub hard or you will smell of fish all day!

There's also a baby dolphin pool in a different area - quite close to the entrance I think - where you can watch the youngsters playing. Your DD will need to sit on someone's shoulders to get a good look though.

Have fun. We may be there on the same day as you!

Have you thought of doing the new dining with Shamu experience, I have booked it for early November as my grandaughters love dolphins and whales.

My DD13 is 14 on Oct 18th and we fly out Oct 19th and the 1st park she always wants to visit is Seaworld for Shamu show. We all enjoy both the normal show in the afternoon and the evening show Shamu Rocks America.

We've twice visited Florida in late October/November and I seem to recall there was one show at the Shamu stadium during the day and then the Shamu Rocks America show in the early evening.

Both were wonderful and if you can I'd say do both of them.

The only proviso would be not to let your daughter sit in the Splash Zone for the evening show if the weather is anywhere near cool!!!! The sea water is icy cold, we saw several tearful kids shivering homewards after the evening show. Poor mites, I could feel the cold coming off them !!

I'd go along with Mike Jones on the subject of food at Seaworld. At best it's OK, we tend to go for a snack and have a meal elsewhere.

BTW , I noticed that you intend to go on a Sunday........... the weekends are much busier at Seaworld than weekdays, a lot of "locals" seem to go at weekends. That particular weekend is one of the Seaworld " Shamu's Halloween Spooktacular " events so I'd imagine the place will be heaving. Might well be worth waiting a day and going on Monday ?

You probably have it but here's the link to Seaworld

Have a great time there and DEFINITELY don't miss Kraken!!

We fly out on 19th - going to Seaworld first day too :D My DD's birthday isn't until the end of October though :p

Hi
Just another show to do at Seaworld is Clyde and Seamore take pirate island, we went last year and 3 years ago with my DD who was 6 and 8 at the times and laughed so much through both shows, actually so did we. Get there a bit earlier for the pre show as well.

Was at Seaworld last October.
There were two or three Shamu shows daily and on chosen evenings there was Shamus Spooktacular hallowe'en show. This show is on various nights leading up to hallowe'en, not just on the night itself. There were stalls all around the park and all the kids were given trick or treat bags and sweets. They could go up to each stall and get a top up.
The Spooktacular show was more or less the same as the normal Shamu show but with the lights in the stadium turned off and a Merlin character doing the commentry.

I agree you have to feed the dolphins :)
My 4year old loved it,so much so we ended up visiting seaworld a few times :):) got 2 lovely pictures aswell,as they take them when you feed a dolphin :)

Your daughter will love it. The fish cost $1 a fish, make sure you have someone in the queue as,they dont let everyone buy fish only a certain amount. (if you get my drift)! :D

Shamu is fantastic, she'll love that also! :)

Have a wonderful time.

Beth
