Seat reservation question - not booking direct with airline

I am officially tearing my hair out! Been trying to book flights since yesterday evening, but for one reason or another, it is not going well!

i have been trying to book Delta flights on the Air France website (cheaper, plus 3% Quidco!) There are 8 of us travelling so it takes forever to fill in all of our details, passports etc....but each time I go to book I get an error message. Very frustrating. I don't want to call to book as I would lose the cashback.

Anyway, I can find the same flight price on Opodo and Netflights. My question is once I book, can I use the eticket number to go onto the Delta website and reserve seats? When booking on Air France, you get the option to choose your seats as part of the booking process. I am just not sure whether I would be able to do this if I am not booking directly with the airline.

Booked a few times with Netflights & Expedia on Delta/Airfrance/KLM codeshare, sometimes no problems other times I struggle with one of the legs. sometimes they deal with it by email, other times they say you have to ring, other times I just couldn't be bothered and waited til check in. All a bit hit and miss with their booking system.
