Seasickness meds - morning or night?

I've read tons of threads on seasickness remedies, but none really specified the best time to take the meds...specifically Dramamine since I know that works for me. My last cruise I took it during the day and I was falling asleep in my plate by dinner. But I'm afraid if I take it the night before, it will start to wear off by the time we sail. I'd love to take it each night, but I'm just wondering if the dose will last during the day. Does anyone have any experience or insight? (BTW - I will have 3 children on the ship, so I would love to give them their dose at night too! :upsidedow)

I've never used it on a ship, but I do get plenty of motion sickness every where else! Dramamine, or Bonine is a 24 hour drug so you should be fine taking it at night. By the time it wears off it's time for a new dose. I tend to like Bonine just a little bit more.
I did get a prescription for a patch from my dr for my last trip- one patch lasts 3 days:thumbsup2. It worked great for my airplane ride. ( I get so sick on planes). I would recommend trying that. It was really easy to get the prescription.

yes - scopolamine patch is your friend! although the side effect would tend to make one more awake rather than less (not necessarily a bad thing!) and i don't know off hand if that is something ok for pediatric patients, er, cruisers!
:thumbsup2

We took Bonine each day of our trip around lunch time. No one got drowsy and better yet no one got sea sick.

My pharmacist recommended an over the counter meclazine (spelling?) and I take it morning and night from the time we leave home (airplane, car, etc!) until the time we land. No sleepiness, and no motion sickness of any kind.

Has anyone used the Bonine for Kids? My kids have never gotten sick on a cruise, but we are doing the fishing excursion at CC, and I'm a bit nervous about that. We'll probably get some and try it at home to make sure they don't have side effects.

I took Bonnie (over the counter) before bed, taking them before bed each night tended to migate any drowsiness. I know I slept great and no motion sickness.

The Bonine I had was 12 hour, so I took one in the morning and one at night. No side effects of any kind and it worked great! Our ped said only use the Bonine for kids for older kids (not sure why exactly) and use Dramamine for the younger ones. Our 8 year old used the Bonine for Kids and had no issues..

I've never heard of Bonine, but I used Dramamine each night before I went to bed. I took one pill right before bed each night and was fine. The first night on board, I also wore SeaBands but then was able to take them off the next morning. My problem was that I would get sick at night while laying in bed. During the day, I was too busy to think about it and so I didn't have problems UNLESS I woke up feeling sick. So the one pill at bedtime worked like a charm for me.

The entire family started taking Bonine the night before the cruise and then took it every night and in the morning. We had some rocking and rolling on our MR cruise in February and while other kids and adults turned green, we just went about our day!

I have always taken Bonine first thing in the morning when I get up. When you take it isn't important....not forgetting to take the next dose is.

I take Bonine an hour before I get on the ship ( about noon) and then take one as the ship sets sail form Port Canaveral. Then I take one each morning. I also take one the day I get off the ship to prevent "sea legs". This works great for me as i have gotten very sea sick before.

I took a dose of Bonine in the morning and then a dose of Dramamine at night. This worked very well for me. No drowsiness during the day, and a little help sleeping at night. :thumbsup2

Bonine contains meclizine- I think they have a bucket full of melizine tablets by the medical office on board. We did Bonine on our first cruise- like others have said, we started taking in 24 hours before we got on the boat. It worked great for all of us except oldest son ( who never gets motion sick). He needed a patch ( which luckily some friends had brought). I made the mistake at the end of the cruise thinking, " I haven't felt sick at all" so I didn't take it one day- BIG MISTAKE!!!! We also used the Bonine for kids for our youngest.

On our last cruise we were getting a prescription for the patch for the oldest and the doctor gave us a prescription for meclizine. With insurance we got a ton of pills ( maybe 60) for $4! A lot cheaper then buying Bonine over the counter!

I do Bonine at night before bed starting the night before the cruise. I carry ginger capsules in case I ever need them during the day, but I've never needed them.
