Sea sickness - more in the back or front of the boat?

We state in room 7502 on our very first cruise the only time I really noticed the waves was at night when we lid down to sleep.. Then it just was enough to rock me to sleep... The second cruise we were on deck 6 close to the front.. Again same here... When we was eating supper on the second cruse we were in animators palate and I got a uneasy felling cause of the movement but never got sick... So who knows I hear middle low is the best place for less movement... But I don't know... I'm sure these fine people here can help..

We are staying in the aft, room 978 or something like that. Where will we feel more motion? My son gets car sick easily so I'm nervous...

We just got off the boat, we were in the back of the boat on deck 9. You will feel some motion, but honestly, I felt motion everywhere I went, even on the lower decks. Just pack some dramanine and take it when you get on or before and you will be fine. As the cruise progresses you will get somewhat used to the movement.

I always feel the motion more aft than forward, especially in the MDRs. We always book forward rooms and never feel as much movement in our room as we do in the aft MDRs.

Oh my goodness. ..my son will freak out. Haha. I will have to start the patch the day before. I can't even look at my phone in the car for more than a few minutes (while in the passenger) without feeling sick.

Thanks for all of the advice!

The first night is bad when the ship is passing through the warm waters. I believe it is the gulf stream. It is also a bit shaky whenever the ship is pulling out of a port. The vibration in AP was so bad the first night in March that DH had to leave the MDR before the apps had been served. It was the worst we have ever experience that first night in 8 cruises out of PC.

Also, if you think you might need Bonine, start taking it at least the day before the cruise. Sea sickness is harder to get rid of once you are sick. The medications are intended to prevent the symptoms from starting. Keep taking it a couple days after you get off the ship to avoid the swaying feeling after the cruise.

^^ What lbgraves said about taking Bonine starting the day before the cruise. One pill, once a day, until you are done with the cruise. If your "sea legs" come back on land with you, take the Bonine a few more days.

DO NOT use the patch without trying it first on land. It makes my whole family sick. I tried it last year before my cruise and it made the whole room tilt and I got dizzy; the same thing happened to my sister and my mom.

We all get very motion sick (trains, planes, automobiles, merry-go-rounds, you name it) so I was hesitant to cruise. LOVE IT!! Have I had some sea sickness over the years cruising? Sure, but not enough to keep me off of ships. You are going to feel motion at times but, as someone else mentioned, there is nothing like being rocked to sleep by the ocean. Unless I'm in pretty rough water, I'm okay. If I'm in rough water, even the Bonine doesn't help. I have to stay in bed until it's over.

I love to cruise and I'm even going to test my seasickness against a TransAtlantic cruise this fall. That's how much you are going to love to cruise. Just be prepared and don't worry about it. Also, take some hard ginger candy for your kids (or ginger tea), there's nothing like ginger for a sick tummy.

I agree re trying the patch ahead of time. My husband tried it for a weekend 3 weeks before our trip. For the first time he could play video games that would normally make him sick. His main side effect was dry mouth, he did get a little dizzy as well, but he preferred it to feeling motions sick or drowsy from gravel.

You can take the Bonine or anything else before your cruise to make sure that you won't have side effects from it. :)

All the ginger candies we've tried have been too spicy for my kids. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I've been told that MotionEze is a good herbal remedy that works very well.

Room being midship on deck 10, I found the motion affected me more when the ship was taking waves on the side. The front to back waves were little to no bother... I presume that on the lower decks the side to side swaying motion would be less pronounced.

You can get gingerale in the MDRs no charge. I always order us a round the first night & when we are leaving port. It helps keep our dinner settled when we are rocking.

I can't ride Dumbo unless I am looking down at my feet, but I started taking Bonine 2 days before our cruise and I was fine. We were deck 8 midship on the Fantasy, and we are booked in a similar spot for our next cruise. I have heard folks say that the lower the better, but honestly, the only time I felt anything that made me queasy at all was at dinner on our first full sea day.

What room were you in on Deck 7?

We were in 7182 (I still need to do a room report). Several other people in our cruise meet who were in aft rooms on other decks besides 7 also felt the vibration. Keep in mind though that my DH was in the same bed as me and said it didn't bother him. I think each person's tolerance for motion, vibration, etc. is different.

I laid on the pull-out sofa some, too and didn't feel the vibration as much on that as I did in the regular bed - I guess because it's firmer.

Does Bonine make you drowsy like Dramamine does?

I haven't tried either of them but my 8yr old takes bonine bc the dramaine doesn't work as good for him. I'm gonna try out the patch a few weeks before we go. I've heard good and bad about it.
