We're going on the Wonder in Feb. This is the first ever cruise for me! I am so nervous that I'll get sea sick. Has anyone experienced this? Also, do they have Ginger Ale to drink...I'm putting together all old wives tales about sea sickness. lol

Ginger ale is available in cans at a cost of nearly $3 per can including the automatic gratuity.

Many people worry about motion sickness; a much lesser number have a problem. I get horrible motion sickness on small boats, planes, etc. On my first cruise, I did EVERYTHING--scope patch, sea bands, etc. No problem. Second cruise I did nothing...still no problem.

There is medication (Bonine) available on board at no cost if needed. The ship has excellent stabilizers, and I've rarely had a problem except in a few very rough seas. Fortunately, these didn't last long.

I don't like gingerale, but have taken gingersnap cookies with me and haven't needed to open the box. So I'm not sure if they would work. You always have the option of taking some onboard with you if you feel you might need it or just to drink if it's a drink you like.
I usually use seabands when there have been rough seas and haven't had a problem.

Thank you for your reply! I had no idea that you could get the Bonine for free. It was on my shopping list, but now I'll def. cross it off! I'm thinking of still getting the sea bands. One of those better safe than sorry situations, especially for my 3 year old. I have experience getting motion sickness on boats and some rides, so that's why I'm a little unsure about it.

Thanks again!

I actually don't like the taste of ginger at all! It would've been a last resort type thing. Thank you for the reply! I was not sure if the seabands were worth it or not, but I think I'll pack them just in case.

On our first cruise we brought Gingersnap cookies along as well...and just about every other potential remedy we could think of. Fortunately none of us ever got sick and like you, we never needed to open the box.

We just got off the Magic and you could get ginger ale in the dining room with your meal - or for $1.75/can from room service (I think that was the price - it was under $2).

We bought bonine in advance and started taking it the day before we left. worked like a charm.

I've taken ginger capsules. They worked fine. Liked it better than some of the other drowsey pills.

I got ginger ale and a bonine in the dining room in our first night. :lmao:
I don't normally experience motion sickness except for simulators and rides that go around in a circle for more than a minute. My first night was kinda rough as I all wanted to do was go to sleep. For our second cruise, I followed some great advice and took 1/2 of a bonine when I first boarded and ate. Had no problem whatsoever!!
Not sure where you get the bonine as our server brought it to me at the table when he saw how miserable I looked. I felt so bad I left Parrot Cay and went and laid down on a couch just a bit outside the restaurant after taking the med. They came and got me a little later as it was my younger DD's actual 13th Birthday and they were about to deliver her cake to our table.
Good Luck, but you might be surprised that you don't feel as bad as you think you will. I had more of a problem when we disembarked as I still felt like I was moving even though we were back on land for 5 days. :rotfl2:

I have real motion issues so I was just as worried as you about traveling on the Wonder. So I bought the "sea bands" and the "bonine" to be prepared! BUT I did not need to use them at all. :woohoo:

The Wonder and all of the DCL's ships have amazing stabilizers! :thumbsup2

I would definitely buy both items (Walmart) and take them just in case!

Have a blast! :dance3:

My wife swears by it and dramamine. She was relieved that they served Ginger Ale at dinner. TBH... so was I, do I could have fun too!:lmao:

Thanks for the info on the Bonine.
I will take it off my list, too.

IN general, though, I will say that my experience is that seabands work the best if I keep them on all the time. Not very pretty for the pictures, but there are some small sacrifices I like to make

have no experience with anything taken to help with sea sickness, although they say anything with ginger in it helps. They actually sell it in candy form for chemo patients, from what I hear.

Anyway, it is much like anything else, you brain senses movement when your body doesn't see it , at least for many of us. This is why most will tell you to go up on deck if at all possible, that way you see the movement and usually this will help. My worst times of feeling it where when we where in the theater and in any enclosed space. But this was in the middle of a north easter and the boat was really rockin.

Nothing works for me except Bonine. Tried seabands, ginger capsules, gingerale, ginger snaps with no luck. If you know you are prone to motion sickness it's much better to take the medicine before you feel sick, once you do it's too late in most cases.

If you're going to use the pills they offer on the ship, make sure you take them as soon as you get onboard. I know everyone says they're the same as Bonine, but for some reason they make me really tired when Bonine does not.

I had chatted with an employee from the cruise ship who said that many employees eat green apples to prevent sea sickness. He said just grab one off the buffet and when you start feeling a little ill, eat it slowly. I didn't have any problems until I got off the ship...go figure...

This was my experience with bonine as well. I am waiting to hear reports back from the Dream about motion sickness.

 Haven't tried it with sea sickness yet, but I do have a very weak stomach and I buy ginger chews at Vitamin Cottage. I swear by them! They seem to work really well for me, taste pretty good (if you like ginger--they are pretty strong), they're CANDY, and they are natural. You can probably get them other places too. The ones I use are called Reeds; others will probably work just as well, as long as they're packed with real ginger. I saw a Myth Busters one time on the benefits of ginger and it actually worked really well in their experiment for motion sickness, though it may not work for everyone. Plus no drugs = no sleepiness (not sure whether Bonine causes sleepiness or not).

I was actually going to ask about ginger ale myself. It's good to know I can get ginger ale at dinner & they have meds on the ship. I will try to some ginger candy as well.

Green apples are recommended for morning sickness during pregnancy as well, so it makes sense. If you can't stomach a whole apple, eat at least the peel. Another morning sickness trick I've used is buying ginger syrup (I got it at Whole Foods), and making my own ginger ale by mixing it with club soda. I also used to get crystallized ginger at Whole Foods.

My son loves the crystallized ginger...he thinks its candy. LOL
