SDMT Soft Opening Lookout Post

Rode this morning as well. Line was long back to Tea Cups but sign listed 55 minutes. Waited and rode in 40 minutes. Nice fans to keep you cool in line!!

Wait, so 7DMT hasn't officially opened yet, but some folk are folk complain that they can't ride it, and it ruined their vacations??? :confused3

It's like complaining during a trip to <anywhere> that <anything>, which is being built and you knew doesn't open until after your trip, wasn't opened when you visited and that ruined your trip. :rolleyes2

Jim Hill wasn't bluffing...I rode it twice probably waited 35 min each time. The back is where the fun is at!

Great ride, very quick but well done for the space!

Have fun riding everyone! :)

there was also someone complaining about it being opened before the actual opening date.

You know, I read that post and totally don't get that. Soft openings happen for every attraction so thinking that 7DMT would be excluded escapes logic. It's no different than when DD and I were able to ride Ariel during its MNSSHP soft opens. I think it's crazy that people are so angry and/or upset. I was looking forward to riding earlier this month but that got squashed when they pushed the opening date back, and when we were in MK on the 13th and I saw people entering the queue and mine cars full I went over to the CM hoping they'd say it was an AP preview. It wasn't. It was a CM preview. DD and I went on our way, no big deal and it certainly didn't ruin our vacation.

i took this today at 240 PM. Below is how far out of the holding area the line extended.

So it "ruined" your day that you weren't able to get on a "mediocre" ride that you had thought wasn't open before you got there? :confused3

Yep, sure did. Just because the ride was mediocre doesn't mean we didn't want to ride it. They have after all been flaunting and flogging it, and taunting us with it for the past three years. And we ride mediocre rides all the time at Disney and quite enjoy ourselves.

But it wasn't that we didn't get to ride that bothered me. Nor was it that they cut the line directly in front of us, although that was admittedly disappointing. And, having been among the first of the general public to ride has a certain cache, which would have been nice to experience.

It was the way it was managed. We were outright lied to. Repeatedly and vehemently. They told us they UNEQUIVOCALLY would not be doing any more testing that day. They were VERY clear about the fact that they had all the data they needed (which I am certain they had weeks ago) and then to see and hear them testing again later that day was frustrating and completely unacceptable to me. It was like the bourgeoise doling out crumbs to the poor. Insulting. Even my kids sensed it and were disgusted by it.

We were at the 24 hour event today, and ended up riding it. The 180 minute posted time was actually 35 minutes, and we were the ones to deliver the red card. Walked by twice, and the same sized line boasted the same wait time throughout the day. Again, i don't like having my chain yanked.

And my initial impressions about the ride itself were right. It was mediocre - I'm not sure why that proclamation upsets people. It is a glorified Barnstormer certainly not worthy of the hype. The theming and animatronics in the cave were the best part, but it was not much of a ride. Many will like it I am sure - I've said before that Disney could charge you $50 to set you on fire and there'd be a lineup out the door. For us, it's a once and done kind of ride. We have not been overly impressed with VOTLM or ESTWB either - we'll stick with the classics, thanks.

Which means more of SDMT to go around for everyone else, especially the die-hard Koolaid drinkers. I love Disney, but I do feel like we need to hold them accountable for the things they do wrong. And lying to and manipulating guests feels less than magical to me.

Eeep. This worries me a little.

It should. The cars themselves are very uncomfortable. Extremely tight quarters, particularly for the Pooh-sized. The moulded seats mean your bum hangs over on both sides and the lap bar only comes about halfway to your lap. Your legs prevent it from coming in close to you and are pinched for the remainder of the trip. UGH. I don't know what they were thinking making the cars so small.

That is how soft opens are. It is either open or closed, and when closed they will not give any hints that it might open again. Suggesting it might open again would almost certainly start building a line of people that may or may not understand the word "might". And then when it doesn't open there's a bunch of torqued-off guests who waited for nothing, even though they were told so.

I envy your patience.

I think people just don't get it. The poor CMs at the front only know what they're told during a soft opening. I don't know how they keep their patience either.

And if you are a solo rider or the odd number in your party, you will be sat with a stranger. I had that fun experience last night. Managed to knock into him at least 2x (accidentally from the swinging) and he was stuck away from his group because we waited for back row and I was the odd person out and I was riding back row so he had to leave his group (which I assume was in the rows ahead of our party) to come sit with me.

I don't really care about being sat with a stranger but most people don't like it so you feel more reserved and have to be overly aware of your space. I think next time I will just tell them not to sit me with anyone else. (Not sure they will listen though)

My wife and I also rode it last night during the 24 hour party (@ 2:00 am ). The stand-by wait time posted was 90 minutes. We were out the exit in 50. We thought the theming of the ride was good and the ride itself was what was expected, a middle level coaster. It is certainly not Everest but it's not the Barnstormer either.

As far as the CM's lying to everyone, they are telling you what they are being told and in my opinion it's better to be told it's not opening, than to be told it is, waiting one or two hours and then it never opens.

All in all we were pleased to get on the newest ride at MK.

Anyone there today to know of there are any openings? I'll be there later this evening.

We rode it this morning around 11:15 am. I asked a CM at the entrance if it would be open all day. He said that was the plan but there was no guarantee

Still open as 2pm showing a 60 minute wait. We are in the line and it appears to be moving pretty steadily.
