Scummy stores in your town

OMG, I live near an IGA (grocery store) it's only a 3 minute walk for me. I will go there occassionally to get stuff I need. But I have to shop very carefully. I will not buy any meat there. I have seen a whole loaf of green bread on the shelves. Every time I am looking for dairy products the stuff usually has expired or will expire within a day or two. The whole place is just disgusting.

there's one grocery store that's creepy to go into but the bakery is amazing(not part of the store but same center)

Definately the K-Mart. The Target and Cub stores around here are all immaculate!

We have a local store here called "Marden's" now grant you it isn't supposed to be fancy- they sell salvaged merchandise.... but it is so nasty that I feel like I need to take a shower after I have been there (which isn't often) My dh and most of my friends love it... it makes me sick.

There was a slavage store near my own house, and yes, it isn't supposed to be fancy.

My salvage store dairy was interesting. I learned that I couldn't buy yogurt from them, but everything else was ok.

I just remembered the nastiest store that I went to when I lived in Ohio... The Euclid Avenue Aldi's. This was down Cedar Road, until it turned into Cleveland or East Cleveland.

The clientele were always interesting. First there were little boys (maybe 12 or so) being obnoxious telling you they would get you a cart for a tip! Uh, don't think so.. I can get my own cart.

Then the customers, were just scary! ONe time I was in line next ot a guy who had layers upon layers of clothes on and I notice his cart. He handcuffed himself to his cart!  This guy would shuffle along with this cart.

My only thought was this guy was homeless, and this cart was his home!

I have to agree w/ K-Mart. It's so bad that I will not shop there no matter how good the deal. Some of the Walmarts around here are absulutely disgusting but there are others that are usually in pretty god shape. I think it has to do w/ the neighborhood it's in, i.e. nicer area, cleaner store and vice versa. The other really bad one was a salvage store that has since closed (I had an ex-BF whose Mom insisted on going there and didn't drive so one of us, usually me would take her). That store was diguting and smelled even worse.
One that used to be but has really cleaned up and gotten organized is the Big Lots close to my house.

Rainbow Foods, KMart, WalMart. ICKYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

I absolutely love our Cub Foods and our Targets around here :)

Lee's Chicken and some of the Kroger's are BLAH>YUCK>ICK.

We actually have one of the last K-marts they built. It went up right when they were closing other K-marts but they opened it anyway. It's still very nice. OTOH we have some Walmarts that I can't go into without getting an anxiety attack. The scuzziest store near me is a Save-a-lot food store that is truly nasty. You couldn't pay me to shop there.

SaveRite (formerly Winn-Dixie) -- it's dirty, the frozen food is never quite frozen, and there are usually only 2 lanes open so you have SUPER LONG waits to check out

WalMart -- the one near me is one of the older non-super ones. Its' junky, there are long lines, and the parking lot is not well-lit at all.

KMart-- so scary I don't even go near it anymore!

LOL Mermaid02 I know exactly what you mean about Marden’s! But my vote would have to go to the dollar stores. They just freak me out and I always leave from there rushing to the restroom to wash my hands! :scared:

Okay I see a pattern here. K-Mart and Wal-Mart are running neck and neck here. With the Dollar Stores following close behind. I stopped going to the Wal-mart that was closest to my house for the very same reasons, the clothes all over the place and it just looked dusty. I now go to a Wal-mart that is about 30 minutes away, and it has to be the cleanest Wal-mart ever. The shelves are always stocked and the place is just down right clean.

I was all ready to come here and LAMBAST the SCUMMY, LAZY, no-good employees at our local Radio Shack but you all are talking about actual tangible GRIME!

Our shoe repair shop is a little messy;), but I think I'll let him go...good shoe repair is geting harder and harder to find.:(

Hmm. I like our KMart. It's always clean. Same for our Walmart. It's clean, too.

Now we have a Family Dollar and a Dollar General that is just gross. They aren't as gross as our Goodwill though. I like to go to Goodwill to look for used books for church's daycare center. Every time I touch something in there I get this nasty film on my hands. Gross.

We also have an IGA store that is just bad. The canned food has dust on them. Some of the canned food just looks old. They also sell chicken that is bad. It's all sticky and smells bad. People buy it though. Eww.

Personaly I don't take the fact there are few English speakers working in a store as a problem. It is very common here in Miami in some areas. You learn to deal with it or don't shop there.
Best store I ever went in was the SuperWalmart in St Augustine, FL. Clean store and helpful workers. I was with my friend, who is deaf, and the cashier was able to sign and discuss the tires we needed to buy with both of us.
Walmart in Homestead isn't bad but the local Kmart is horrible. Not enough employee and everything is always in disarray. Since there is a Target just down the street I head there instead now.

I agree. What does language have to do with the cleanliness of a store?

Now I undersatnd if it was a question about customer service, but I thought the OP was questioning how a store looked.

OK, I'm still laughing about the guy who handcuffed himself to the cart...

But I'm so glad to know that everyone has somewhere that's big-time gross.

I actually spoke with the manager of the scummy Wal-Mart and he admitted the store is a mess. He blamed it on not being able to find good employees. Which I couldn't disagree with. The employees in there are pretty scary.
