Scraping the Fork Against Your Teeth While You Eat...

OK Maybe it's just me, but we had someone over for dinner and EVERY time this person put a bit of food in their mouth they caught the fork with their teeth and then pulled it out :scared: . It made this grating sound that sent chills up my back and I literally could not chew my food, it was like someone had stuck a lemon in my mouth and I was sucking on it. Just writing about it is making me cringe. I had never noticed anyone doing this before, usually the food enters the mouth, the lips NOT THE TEETH close over the fork and then its removed.

It was like the nails on the chalkboard thing for me... I am usually not a picky person but man this drove me nuts. Does this grate on anyone elses nerves, no one else at the table seemed to mind and when I asked my DH later he looked at me like I was nuts :lmao: . Am I the only one this has an effect on?

Yikes!! :scared1: I wouldn't have been able to control my tongue...besides gaping at him I know I'd have asked, "do you have to do that?" :furious:

I cringed just by reading your title. It's just as bad as nails down a chalkboard.

I used to do it--I never noticed I was doing it until my sister went ballistic on me one day. :lmao: Apparently, I had pushed her over the edge. Once it was pointed out to me, I made an effort to stop doing it.

Perhaps this guy doesn't realize he's doing it either? It doesn't sound like this is someone you could just say, "Hey, you're giving us the willies." but I guess as a public service, I'll just tell everyone that if someone you love is doing this--point it out and make them stop. :rotfl:

Just reading the title of this thread made the hair stand up on the back of my neck :scared1:

My BIL does this when he eats, It makes my teeth hurt. It must be because I had braces for 4 years, I never want metal against my teeth again!!!

The title alone made me get the heebie jeebies. I can't stand that horrid sound. Between that and open-mouthed chewers, I may never eat in the company of others again. :rotfl:

OMG!!! just the thought of it gets me!!!

BTW, does this guy happen to be someone close to your DH, and he has simply learned to tune it out and become immune to it??? How could it not drive anyone ballistic.

My MIL takes her fork, and does all this scraping to get every little bit of food/juice/etc. off her plate when she eats. I CAN NOT stand it!!!

The funny thing is, everyone assumes it's a man, it's not, it's a woman :goodvibes . Actually my MOTHER!!! And sadly, yes I have even spoken to her about it. She stops for awhile and then starts again with a vengence, not on purpose, it's just the way she eats. I didn't want to rat her out but "oh well", sorry Mom... :lmao:

My hair is still standing up on the back of my neck from reading your post.

I think I would have had to leave the table :)

I hate that noise!!!!

I have a friend who's brother used to do that noise when they were kids and they ended up nicknaming him "Zert"....that's what he sounded like :lmao:
We still call him that to this day!!!!

I think that I thought it was a man from reading "man, this drives me nuts..." And, also, with your DH not being bothered, I thought it was maybe a buddy of his.

Man or woman, still would get on my nerves!!!! Ewwww!!!!!

Are you sure it was your mother and not my father-in-law? I love my FIL to death, but my goodness, I HATE eating with him, he drives me insane!!

That sound is horrible. I wouldn't have been able to sit there and listen to it. :crazy2: :headache:
