Ran out about 6 months ago and was starting to have withdrawals so last Sun DW and I took a trip up to Sperryville, Va. and below is our booty so to speak

The two little jars that you might not be able to read are almond butter and cinnamon honey butter.

Actually those are gag X-mas presents and are in the freezer now.

Sorghum on pancakes or waffles or simply mashed up with some real butter and spread on hot biscuits is something I really enjoy. The Black Strap Molasses is supposed to be one of the healthiest toppings you can get.

I just noticed that you are in NoVa. Did you know that McCutcheons is in Frederick, MD? You can score that stuff anytime you want, it's made not far from you. Making the apple butter was my fathers first job as a teenager. We still live in the area and it's a staple in our house.

Yes I knew that and Fredrick is about the same distance as Sperryville from us about 50 miles and the scenery out to Sperryville is better and they have the Sorghum. The prices were very reasonable 2.69 for 16oz of the molasses and 8.95 for I think it's 36oz for the Sorghum. The McCutcheon site has the molasses for I think $2.19. All my family was from NE Okla. and I used to get and bring back Sorghum from there in metal paint can type containers. This Sorghum is from Ky.

We normally take a fall drive up to Sperryville which is right at the base of the Blue Ridge Mtns. to see the foliage, but this last year with us going to WDW in Oct. we didn't go.

Small world! My grandmother is from Hazard Co. Ky, she brings sorghum back for us every year. We have have similar tastes! Glad to see you've stocked up.

That's so wierd to see Frederick mentioned on these boards. I was just there this morning attending a funeral. Actually we drove up to Frederick, then through the Catoctin Mountains and over to Smithsburg. We lived in Frederick for 20 years but moved "south" in 1997. Boy, that place is sure changing.

We were in Williamsburg acouple weeks ago and there is an Amish store there that also sells McCutcheons products. That was kinda surprising 'cause I only thought they were sold locally to Frederick.

If you go to northern Canada, the Moose Droppings are already pre-frozen for you.!!

I've never had black strap molasses, but my DH's grandmother swore by it to cure many a malady. She said that when she was a nurse back in the 30's, they gave it to anemic women to boost their iron & also used it as a wound ointment. Of course, back then, they thought that kerosene mixed with honey & lemon could ease an upper respiratory infection. Maybe there's something to it. Nanny lived to a ripe old age of 87 & was not sick a day in her life.
