We're going to rent a scooter from Walker.
It is the larger model, the one that breaks down.
I have never put together/taken apart a scooter before and I am nervous about this. How can I get a head start on understanding the process before I get there? I wan this to run as smoothly and easily as possible.

I used Walker the past three years. the last two I had problems with their scooter. Last year was a total mess. I just rented from Apple Scooter.

If you know the type of scooter they are using, you could go to the makers website and see if they have users books there that you can review. Most of them is just a matter of removing the seat, removing the batteries, seperating the deck from the rear wheels by lifting on a lever around the seat post of the scooter.

If you look at Post #5 of the disABILITIES FAQs there is an example of how to break down an ECV and fit it in a trunk, and how to reassemble it. You might want to print out that page and take it with you as an approximate guide. However, it really does not make much sense until you actually see the parts that afre referred to.

In post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs, there are links to various companies that DIS posters have reported generally positive experiences with over the years. For any company, you will find people who love that company an others who plan to never rent from them again. The ones listed in the disABILITIES FAQs (including both Apple and Walker) have had many more positive than problem reports on the DIS boards over the years.

If you go to the Walker website listed in the FAQs thread, you will find there is an assembly page on their website that shows the ECV broken down to put into a vehicle.

I've rented their large scooters for the last 6 yrs and never had a problem. Breakdown and setup was easy and took less time than expected.
I've had rental cars as well as vans and never had any problem transporting them either.
Did have a problem with a fishing charter boat in Clearwater, boat was stated as wheelchair accessible but when we got there the charter company had us on a much smaller boat with no ramp. Still caught some tarpon!

If you are truly concerned and all the assurances here don't help (and ONLY then, because I'm in NO way trying to direct business away from a company with which I've been more than satisfied!), I would recommend switching to Randy's. A tad less convenient, yes, because they deliver directly to you instead of Bell Services - but with that comes actual demonstration in disassembly and reassembly.

I just wanted to thank everyone for your help.
Walker had a pictorial showing how the ECV breaks down so I feel much better now, and with all the other wonderful reports from the other thread I'm not angsting over whether to stick with them or not.
