Scootaround Left Me Stranded in MK

I rented 2 scooters from Scootaround for myself and my mother in law to accompany my electric wheelchair bound husband. She was in a motor cycle accident and cannot walk distances due to a leg injury. I have my own back issues.

Her scooter died on the bridge to Tommorowland in the middle of MNSSHP. We called the 800 number and were advised that a tech would call us, but it would take up to an hour. I told them to please try to rush it and a little of the situation. After I hung up, my husband said get a supervisor, we can't sit here for an hour just for a phone call. The park will be closed by the time they get someone here. I called back and had a most unpleasant woman tell me that she had no way to call a tech, we would just have to sit there and wait for the tech to answer the page. She suggested that perhaps either my injured mother or myself could push the Scooter out of the park and back to our hotel. She "sympathized, but she was not a magician."

Disney being Disney, someone helped us get the scooter to the front of the park. When I asked if we could leave it there, they advised that Scootaround will not come into the park. They know some rental companies do, but their techs DO NOT, which means even if we had waited for an hour for the tech, we still would have had to push the scooter out of the park.

Good thing we didn't wait - the tech never called. When we called the next morning, we were advised that the "supervisor" would be dealt with as they "knew who it was". Tech confirmed that Scootaround techs do not go into the parks and they just expect you to somehow get their dead scooters out the front gate.

:headache:

Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear that happened to you.
They are not one of the companies that DIS posters use that much, so we don't have much feedback. Most posters use Walker, Care, Apple or Randy's ( in no particular order).

First, this was just an awful experience; I don't think it could get much worse from a scooter company.

This has thought me one thing. I will ask from now on if the scooter tech will go into the park if something goes wrong with ther equipment. Thank goodness Disney CMs are helpful.

Now, you have me curious. So, what happened with the scooter and what was wrong with it?

Yes, I will certainly be asking my future rental companies about their policy when a scooter is disabled while inside a park.

The scooter would go about 10 feet, stop and beep until we turned it off and hit the reset. CM who pushed it said it was even "grabbing" in neutral, so he thought it felt like the transmission.

Not only did the tech not call that night, when I called the next morning, they didn't have a new one scheduled to be delivered either. They did at least divert a driver and get us one that morning, but it was a very negative experience.

I know its been a while, but we also had a horrible experience with them in 05' or 06'. to the point that we contested our payment thru the credit card company. ended up getting a small refund, but really learned a lesson, Mom bought her first scooter after that so we would not have to rent again. Don't remember all the details, but it involved not having any disassembly instructions, and renting a canopy that ended up not even fitting on the scooter, then having battery problems and they would not bring us a replacement. They are not on my "recommend" list.

I'm sorry that happened to you! That company is no good in my opinion. That happened to my mom in WDW while using Scootaround.

Not a recommended company. Their batteries die so fast and they won't get back to you until 8 the next morning if you call after 1pm it seems! They never gave us a definitive answer if they would come help us in the park or at all.

My dad pushed my mom in a wheelchair to the front and I pushed the scooter out of the way and part way to the gate until a CM helped. It was right after a fireworks show (?) at the MK and they where herding people out, kinda scary to have a battery say it's ok and then abruptly die while people are rushing around you! We got a new scooter from Scootaround the next morning, that one was bad too!
Keep in mind, my mother isn't huge (I think the one she had should have taken nearly another 150-200 pounds!) so it's not like she was putting a huge strain on it.

We are using Apple this time, hope they are better.

Disneyland's Halloween party is actually in the Disneyland park this year. Party nights Disneyland will close at 7 pm and California Adventure is open until 10 pm.

Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

And Scootarama. Not to be confused with (ugh) Scootaround.

I like Scootarama because they - unlike the other companies I've used - will remove the ECV arms on request.

I also like Scootarama because one night while back in my room the charger fuse blew out, I called at 11:30 PM left a message about what happened, the next morning I had a new fully charged scooter waiting for me at the Bell desk :thumbsup2 All I had to do was leave the other scooter & blown charger in exchange.. I will always use them for my scooter rentals !
