Sci-Fi POSITIVES ONLY!

Great milkshakes, and yummy diner food!:thumbsup2 It's a fun atmosphere, and I would definately go again!

The kids love eating in the cars, the food was great and it is nice and cool inside. It's a nice break from the sun! We always go back. Have fun and I hope you like it!!

Pros:
  • The BEST Milkshakes, ever!
  • Totally immersive atmosphere. They have walls around the resturaunt, so you don't see the restrooms or the entrance, it looks like a drive in, and not a diner!
  • If you remember Mystery Science Theater 3000, you will LOVE this place. It has THOSE kind of horror movies. I remember a few from the show, they are great!
  • If you've never been, that is reason enough to give it a go! Thats what vacations are for, right?!?

My DH really wants to try Sci-Fi this time, but after reading these boards for a while, I'm very hesitant. Can you give me ONLY THE POSITIVES about this place? I've heard the burgers are good. What about the ribs - my DH's favorite anywhere he goes? My biggest concern is the seating. It'll be me, DH, DH's brother, DS2 and DS1. I assume everyone is facing the movie screen. How will that work? Will it feel like we're separated (as I'm sure it'll be me and the kids and DH having fun with his brother ;) )

Like I said before, give me the positives - I've heard enough of the negative. Sway me to give it a try!! Consider it a challenge!:cheer2:

Unless it has changed there WERE tables for 6 (this was in 2002)....I forget if it is a 3/3 or 2/2/2 setup though. We DEFINITELY sat together in a car....but we did have to wait about 45 minutes (the place was mobbed) for it.

Anyone know if they still serve the kids food on the glow-in-the-dark frisbees?

No to the frisbees. We sat in a car for 6, the boys in front, DH in the middle, and DD and I in the back.

I don't have a picture of the whole car, but I think you get the idea.:thumbsup2

It was a blazing hot August afternoon and it was so cool in the Sci-Fi that I think DH was almost lulled to sleep.:cloud9:

I just ate there a few days ago. I had never been and had let the negative reviews keep me away. I was very pleasantly surprised. My hamburger was excellent - as someone else said, it was even better than the one at Beaches and Cream. I had the Orbiting Oreo milkshake (which includes Godiva chocolate liquer - yum!!!) I also found it to be the quietest restaurant I'd ever been in on WDW property. Sitting in the cars and watching the movie clips was a lot of fun. I will definitely be going back!

LOVE the shakes and the onion rings  :lovestruc :thumbsup2
Love the cute themed car scene:goodvibes
Love to bring NEWBIES there for the unusual at"mouse"phere:rotfl2:

GO !!:surfweb: :woohoo:

Love the themming there. Always had a good meal also.

We love it and are going for our 3rd time this summer. Burgers and rubens are our favorites.

we ate there a couple of times. just had burgers, fries, onionrings, and of course dessert and shakes. we had alot of fun, really cute place and nice wait staff. enjoy.

The Sci Fi is one of our favorite spots. We love the shakes and "monster" sandwiches. Don't remember the acutal title but it was huge, piled up with sliced meats. My DH and I usually split one. We love the old flicks! Now it is my DD's favorite too.

I've never really understood why Sci-Fi has gotten such negative reviews. The food may not be 5-star restaurant quality, but it's fine and the atmosphere is really fun. We've enjoyed it as much as any restaurant in the World, have gone back several times, and plan on future visits.

We love the Sci fi for the AWESOME atmosphere and very good burgers and shakes! I also had the BLT soup which was really good.

I am trying it in August and I am pretty excited about it...I look at it this way..What restaurant in Disney doesn't have mixed reviews?? ;)

DD and I share the artichoke appy - very yummy. Then it's burgers or ruebens, with a side of onion rings. Shakes are also tasty.

DD likes it because she and I sit in the back and DH and DS sit in the front. She doesn't have to watch her brother eat . . .

I'm a converted Sci-Fi Fan! We ate there in 2000, and the service was horrible. We tried it again last year for lunch, and it was excellent! The hamburgers are huge - I split one with my DD. They didn't charge us extra for serving it one 2 plates either.

I think everybody should try it at least once just to experience the atmosphere.

We love the Sci-Fi! We go there ever trip. The movie clips, the atmosphere and the food....we enjoy it all!

We have lunch at the Sci-Fi during every trip, right before leaving for the airport to fly back home. It's one of our favorite places.

I want to thank you for this thread. I have been put off by the negative reviews and have always avoided the Sci-Fi. We're going to give it a try this June.

I also heard from many people "to stick with the burgers and go for the themeing you'll enjoy it". Many people have said the "monster movies" are very tame and children are not frightened. I'm not concerned at all about that.

I have one question - DS1 usually sits in a highchair, do they have them? Are they only if you request a table?

Has anyone sat in a car with a squirming one year old? I know my four year old will want to sit in a car.

Thanks,
Mare
