We are going to Disney over Easter break. This is our second trip, having gone for the first time last June. My original plan was to go to T-Rex for lunch on our HS day because I couldn't get a reservation for all 5 of us at Sci-Fi. Last year we ate at T-Rex and my kids loved it and wanted to go back. Well, I was able to get an early dinner reservation for Sci-Fi for that day! We've never been there before and I really want to try it. However, I don't want to disappoint my kids. I don't think we will be able to fit T-Rex in at any other time during our stay. What do you think?? Am I better to stick with T-Rex or should we try Sci-Fi???

I think everyone should go to the Sci-Fi at least once. The Drive-in movie atmosphere is great. For me, the food is just ok. It's not bad at all and some people love it, but I think it's just "ok".
As far as the kids go, who can say if they would enjoy it as much as T-Rex. They would get to sit at a table that looks like a car and watch entertaining black & white B movies clips.
If I've already done T-Rex, than I would give Sci-Fi a try. Good luck and have fun at whatever you choose.

Doing HS then going to T-REX then trying to come back to HS is a pain in the tush.

To get from HS to DS, you would need to Uber, or to go to a resort, then get a bus for DS. The return would be similar.

I would stick with Sci-Fi just to avoid the 2 hours of round-trip travel added by T-REX if nothing else.

Sci-Fi is equally fun and memorable, in my opinion, and would be less stress ^^^. But your kids miiight remember not getting to go to T-Rex? Our last trip was perfect, I thought, but my oldest remembers not having time to decorate cookies at Boma. :sad2: I would still go with Sci-Fi, though. I can't see them wanting to leave DHS, once they're there. And if you're doing AK, they'll get their fill of dinosaurs there.

Thanks for the advice!! I'm leaning towards doing Sci-Fi. My older two were actually very excited when I told them I was able to get the reservation! I think, if I can convince my youngest that this will give him more time for Star Wars activities, he will be fine with it. I'm excited to try something new!

Unless you plan to arrive at DHS late afternoon, after a morning spent at DS, I wouldn't consider T-Rex. That's way too much traveling in the middle of a park day. If you plan to spend the entire day at DHS & you can't convince the kids to skip T-Rex, I would go for a late dinner after you've left the park for the day. If it were me, I'd choose Sci--fi without a second thought. The burgers are great, the atmosphere is fun & more importantly there would be no major travel involved in getting there.

Have you been to Rainforest Cafe? If not, you could consider going there on your AK day. It's similar enough to T-Rex that the kids would probably love it too.

My vote is for sci fi. Food is better and it's a pretty cool atmosphere. The kids will like it.

I am really trying to squeeze in a trip to Sci-fi on our trip in June. That being said we have a tradition of hitting T-Rex or Rain Forest. Wife and I split the Nachos and the kids love the atmosphere and the food. Disney Springs has become such a hassle that we usually do Rain Forest at AK for lunch. I agree Tarheelmjfan try to squeeze in Rain Forest on your AK day. If you do wind up doing that don't forget to get a Landry's Card before you go(just watch out for dirty looks when you use it for priority seating).

The food was better at Sci Fi but kids might enjoy TRex more. That said especially going during a busy time I wouldn't personally want to take that much time away from the park to go to DS for lunch. So for that reason I'd lean towards Sci Fi.

Sci-fi by a landslide! Been to both several times. T-Rex is loud, I have never had very good service, and the food is mediocre. Sci-fi on the other hand is a must do for me every trip. Love the cheesy movie trailers, the specialty shakes, and the overall atmosphere. You can get flavored soft drinks (yay vanilla diet coke!) and even though it is not listed, you can get sweet potato fries. Their smoked turkey sandwich is excellent and a great value!

Sci-Fi for sure! Kids and adults alike love it! I have a hard time passing it up when i'm in DHS. It has a very neat retro setting that is uncomparable to T-Rex. Also, the menu options are a bit better.

Another vote for Sci Fi. Super cool, unique experience you can only do at Disney. T-Rex has a unique atmosphere as well, but it's a chain restaurant and the food is akin to TGI Fridays or Applebees. It's also pretty similar to Rainforest Café, which you can visit in a lot of major cities.

I enjoy T-Rex and it is a lot of fun, but Sci-Fi is a MUST DO every trip for me.

When you factored in travel time between parks, yea, Sc-Fi would make the most sense for me.

Time is money. And when I'm paying good money for park passes, I want to spend as little time as I can traveling to and from the parks.

My group prefers Sci-fi, none of us are really fans of TREX. Also, I would much rather just have to walk to an area of the park to eat as opposed to leaving the park and driving to Disney Springs. Would you be coming back to DHS?

I love both BUT I love SciFi waaaay more. For one, its the quietest restaurant! So peaceful and cool. Second, the atmosphere is incredibly unique. I absolutely love the idea of sitting in a car, watching clips, and eating.

I've always loved the food.....we've had and loved: onion rings, spinach dip, chicken wings, burgers, shakes. My fave are the burgers and the oreo shake. OMG the shakes cant be beat! its to die for! :)

Since there's 5 of you, and the cars are normally 2 per bench, I assume either yourself of your spouse will be sitting alone. Honestly not a big deal in my opinion. You'll enjoy the quiet time. If you must feel the need to face eachother, they do have a few that have regular tables within a car. Not the same experience IMO, but hey, its another option for you to consider.

All in all, definitely stick with SciFi since your already at HS. Trekking to TREX is a huge pain!

I would go with Sci-Fi, my 8 yo loves that restaurant, it's one of his only repeat requests each year. T-Rex is also good and fun, but seeing how you've tried that one already, I'd go with the one that is new to you. It's very unique and memorable. I would say the food is equally good at both restaurants.
