We've got reservations at Sci Fi for lunch on my son's Bday in March. Talking to a neighbor today, and she said we would like Prime Time better. Thoughts? Does one have better food or atmosphere than the other? Is one a better value?

We are not on the dining plan. We aren't staying at a Disney resort.

Your son would probably like sci-fi better, the atmosphere is very good for kids, the foods ok. For a B-day I'm sure the service at Prime Time would be more fun. They really entertain you, and my kids like PT more for that reason. Both are fun for kids. You can see the menus here http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm#mgm

Another place that might be fun depending on your son's age is T-Rex at DTD.

Hadn't even considered T-Rex. Do they take reservations?

You all are such a wealth of information. He will be turning 6, and his brother will have just turned 7. T-Rex would be another really good consideration!

I think entertainment factor at 50's is hit or miss, depending on your server. At Sci Fi, you know you are going to sit in a car and the movies are always great. My family prefers Sci Fi 100% over 50's. They like the burgers/shakes better than the home style type of food at 50's plus they love those cheezy movies.

I agree with jcriket, I have a 9 year old son and I think the T-Rex cafe would be an awesome place for any little boy! We just got back from Disneyworld yesterday and ate at both 50's PT cafe and Sci Fi and I'm not really sure which one I would go for. It depends on your child. I thought the atmosphere was absolutely awesome at Sci Fi (you sit in cars and it is just like being at a drive in and you get to watch a lot of old Sci Fi movie clips and even part of a Tom and Jerry cartoon:thumbsup2 !)but the service and food were horrendous. We were one of the first cars seated (We had an 11:10 AM ADR)and the people in the car next to us weren't seated for at least 20 min. after us. They were ordering their dessert before we even got our food. I am not sure how long each group of movies clips lasts but we were able to watch the clips 3 times before we got out of there. We were there almost 2 hours! Mine and my dd's burgers were absolutely raw so other than the first bite into it(it was dark so I didn't notice it until I bit into mine)they didn't get touched. We couldn't send them back because of course our not so wonderful server didn't come back for another 20 min. and by then I just wanted out of there. I have to say though, we were a party of 7 and other than our 2 burgers, everything was actually good and the milkshakes were awesome. I would definitely try the restaurant again as we really liked the atmosphere and feel that we just had bad luck. At 50's PT, everything was really good, service was excellent, as well as the food and we found the entertainment a lot of fun. Our 9 year old really enjoyed it. I just asked him which one he liked better and he said 50's because at Sci Fi they played the movies over and over again:rolleyes: . Now I am not sure how long it is before the movies are repeated but I have a feeling if we hadn't been there so long he may have liked it more.

Sorry to be so long winded and know that no matter where you all eat, I am sure he will have a great time!

I have eaten at Sci Fi over a dozen times and always had great food and service. We prefer lunch over dinner. If you do go at dinner, the burger isn't on the menu, but they are happy to make one for you. I much prefer Sci Fi over 50's, I have yet to be wowed by the food at 50's (have been four times now) and while its a lot of fun, it just doesn't do it for me food wise. Sci Fi has yet to disappoint and my kids can't not go there!

I do also agree T Rex or Rainforest is fun for kids. Frankly, with the age of your boys, I'd do both T Rex and Sci Fi. I haven't eaten at T Rex yet, but it looks fun and we have always been pleased with the food at RFC.

Have fun with all your planning and have a wonderful trip!

-Atmosphere goes to Sci-Fi.
-Service goes to 50s Cafe (especially if you get a waiter/waitress that really gets into character)
-Food (in my opinion) goes to 50s Cafe
-Overall I would pick 50s, but your son may like Sci fi better.

With regards to the food, neither is bad but there are some differences. 50s is homestyle (and actually tastes that way) and Sci Fi (while not bad) kinda reminds me of TGIFridays etc.

Prime Time is a blast and has the best fried chicken ever!

I agree Tex Rex or Rainforest Cafe would be the best choice for a child:)

My kids -- DS 15, DS 14 and DD 6 -- would all pick Sci Fi. :goodvibes

Ds who is 10 said take him to TRex. He said both sci-fi and 50's PT were cool, TRex is awesome.
