sci-fi...is it really that bad?

We loved Sci-fi we both had the steak and we will be back! You can't please everyone, give it a try.

We LOVE Sci-Fi. We have eaten there every trip. Sometimes twice and never had a bad meal. I love the artichoke dip, bacon burger, and whatever the lava cake is called. DH gets the ribs and likes them. You can't beat the atmosphere and the food great combo. That being said I think everyone needs to try things for themselves at least once. We all have different likes and dislikes. You'll never know if you don't give it a try.

We really like Sci-Fi! My husband and I don't stray too far from the burgers/onion rings/shakes and think it's just fine. I have read that the other meals are not so great, so I stick with what I know is good. It's such a fun, different atmosphere. Try it at least once!

It was jusk okay for us. I didn't love the steak and bleu cheese salad (I thought the dressing was weird). But the milkshake and the onion rings were tasty. The ambience and car booths are really the draw and it was fun. The food was about Chili's level, which is not bad. Sometimes that is all you want. But it is not on our list of must do's for our next trip.

We have gone here every trip since we got engaged at WDW, now years later when taking our DD they love the place and it's one of the few places they actually remember.

For DHS it's a decent choice, I would agree to pay OPP and save your TS for a better meal (value). We always go for a late lunch and it's fantastic to get out of the summer heat and unwind in the cool drive in and relax for a bit.

I've never had bad service or food - I know what to expect and the comparisions are about right - stick to lite fare and enjoy. We've even gone and just had drinks and appz.

We go to Sci-Fi every trip, Love It! Its fun. I thought food was good for the kind of place it is, last time I had the pasta with shrimp*yummy* the shakes are really good to.:goodvibes

It one of these restaurants that it's about the atmosphere.
It's fun, the atmosphere is great...have a burger, shake & have a great time:thumbsup2

We really loved this place. I thought the shakes were wonderful!! The ribs are also very good. The atmosphere was really fun. I have a family of 6 and we had to people in each row of our car. It worked out quite nicely. My husband and I actually had a real conversation without the little ones interrupting every 2 seconds, and the kids enjoyed their time in their own rows too. When I made my reservations, they asked me if I would rather sit in the cars in that situation, or sit at a table all together. I chose the cars. I don't know if they always ask you which you would rather have when you make the reservation, but it worked for us.

I thought the food was great. I had a burger and fries and some sort of amazing dessert and the oreo shake.

We really enjoyed our meal here. Service was fabulous - server recommended the shrimp pasta and it was really good. Other adults in our party had the ribs and enjoyed them as well. My son was the only one in the group to have a burger and it was good too. Desserts were really yummy - especially the chocolate peanut butter cake a la mode. I'm glad we didn't believe everything we read and limit ourselves to burgers, onion rings and shakes. Best part of the meal, when our server told my 10 year old his food was ready and was waiting in the kitchen to be picked up. He actually got up and started to follow her to the kitchen (I think her name was Rochelle - she was awesome. I wanted to pay extra for my 8 year old daughter to get an adult sundae for dessert, but she said not to worry about it and put in for a bigger "birthday" sundae at no additional charge.)

Its nice to finally have a bunch of great reviews. i cant wait to go!!

Our family has mixed feelings about Sci-Fi. In planning our trip at the end of this month, this is the only restaurant at which my Mom really wanted to make sure we ate. She must enjoy the food, because Mom is not big on anything Sci-Fi.

On the other hand, my BF and I are not big Sci-Fi fans. We went in July/August of 2007 and BF had some trouble with his food. He ordered a cheeseburger that was VERY undercooked (I mean, BF LIKES his meat bloody, but I'm not sure that his cheeseburger ever even saw the grill). We both really liked our milkshakes though.

As far as themeing goes, this is a very cool restaurant. I liked eating in a car where I wasn't worried the whole time about spilling on the interior. :rotfl:

The food quality is very similar to that of an Applebee's. I think it is fine and, in my opinion, the menu has enough variety for most diners. Just double check your cheeseburgers before you bite into them.

I'd also like to note that Sci-Fi was VERY chilly when we ate there in July/August 2007. Now, I am one prone to coldness in restaurants, but I remember being very cold in Sci-Fi. Of course, just bringing a long sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt is an easy remedy.

I think Sci-Fi is worth a visit. Even with food problems, the BF and I enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere. The kids really seem to like it too!

Sci Fi is a blast... I miss the free popcorn before your meal though-- don't know why they ditched that, it costs them virtually nothing.

Everyone seems to think the lunch fare is fine. (Burgers, shakes, etc) Past that depends on how much you really like food. Can't say I would ever order a dinner there again. We have given it enough chances to know that dinner is just not good there. Food out of a grocery freezer and nuked, is what I would compare their dinners to. I would say Applebee's or Chili's is far better than Sci Fi dinners.
I like the atmosphere. But I don't like having to read a menu over a small flashlight or barely being able to see what I am eating.
DH and I are always placed in the last seat of a car with a larger group in front of us. Once some ladies long hair was dangling just a few inches over DH's plate.
Literally the table depth is not enough for a dinner plate. The plate always hangs over the table. I feel like the person in front of me is on my face (like on an airplane) and my plate is ready to dump in my lap.
And due to the cramped feeling I would only eat at a picnic table.
Personally I would only eat there at lunch and as a last resort sit down. We generally eat elsewhere or in the Boardwalk area rather than DHS. (I certainly would not have qualms about Mama Melrose, Prime Time or Brown Derby. But past that....)

I was disappointed in Sci-Fi. We were there in mid June and the restaurant was very very cold.( In a childish moment we put our french fries on our arms to try and warm them ) The service very very slow. The shows boring to all but our 7 year old. Food was mediocre at best.
One time at Sci-Fi was more than enough for us.

I like Sci-Fi's burgers and a few years back had a chicken dish that was incredibly good. (They've since taken it off the menu) What I don't care for is the seating arrangements for a group of 3... one person sits alone and faces the backs of the other two. I was in the back seat and my kids in the front. the only thing that made this easier is the waiter gave the bill to the driver. :goodvibes

Wow, I forgot about th popcorn. That was a fun touchpopcorn::

Sci-Fi is one of the only restraunts that my family asks to make sure that we have ressie for every trip to Disney. WE LOVE IT! The bugers, onion rings and shakes are D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! Can't wait for our ressie in August!

We thought sci-fi was great! Maybe it's not the most deluxe dining in the world, but it's definitely good and a fun atmosphere. My husband and I went and "hitchhiked" in someone else's car but we didn't have any problem with it and I don't think the other folks in the car did either. DH loved his chocolate shake though I was somewhat disappointed with my vanilla shake. We shared spinach and artichoke dip which was pretty standard fare. I had the bruschetta chicken sandwich which was very tasty and DH had a vegetarian pasta. My dessert was some kind of apple crisp which was probably the best dessert I had the whole trip!! Definitely a worthwhile stop.
