sci-fi...is it really that bad?

The food is not that bad at all. My kids LOVE it there and it has become a tradition that we dine there whenever we return to Disney.

My opinion is people compare it to fine dining instead of comparing it to a local burger joint. I find the shakes delicious, actually, and the burgers are good. I love the atmosphere and enjoy eating there. As with all Disney eateries, you have good days, and bad days. Different chefs, different vendors supplying food, bad batch ect. But in general, I've always had a great experience at Sci Fi! :)

Sci Fi is a blast... I miss the free popcorn before your meal though-- don't know why they ditched that, it costs them virtually nothing.

People probably were filling up on popcorn and ordering less from the menu.

The food isn't fantastic, but it's eatable, and they have Disney fries which are my favorite.
We're returning on our trip next week so my little brother and sister can experience it.

I ate there with my husband on our honeymoon in 2007 and we loved it. It was great to get out of the heat and relax in the dim environment for a bit. The food was really good, he had the reuban and I had the pastrami sandwich with spinach dip and onion rings to start. I don't remember what we had for dessert, but I had a shake as a drink and that was good, too. I think that the apps and entrees come out close together at all the restaurants, we had 9 days of table service on deluxe dining plan and everything was timed similarly at all places starting with the the order for the entire meal being taken at once. I think some of us forget that this is a theme park and a main goal of theirs is to make a profit and part of the way they do that is by turning over tables quickly. If you go into knowing that it will be slightly quicker than you might experience outside of the parks, then you will be fine. This was one of our favorites and we will return there on our next trip. Hope this helps.

That does help. While I guess many people might want to go to savor the food, like you said, it is a theme park and that is what we are there to enjoy. We want to experience the ambiance of the restaurant for a moment, get our food, and get back out there! Not sit and sip coffee over meaningful conversation. I'm excited about going and can't wait until Aug. 1st when I can make ADR's!!

The ribs are great at SciFi. This is a cannot miss ADR each trip. I like the atmoshere and I hear from others with me the burgers are also good.

Exactly its not like we are going to sit and talk politics, religion or football during our vacation…

Yes it does, thanks for the reply!!!!

I am sure mt kids will enjoy it!!!

Sci-Fi is a great option at DHS. I think it is perfect for lunch and has a very cool and relaxing atmosphere away from the heat and crowds.

I think you should try it and find out for yourself, but we tried it twice, and will not be returning. Some people early in the thread were comparing it to Chilis and Applebees, I think most chain places are better than Sci Fi.

Sci-Fi is a must do for us. My DH is really disappointed that I couldn't get an ADR for our August visit, so I am going to try when we get there. One other note, even though the burgers are not on the dinner menu you can still order them. Just let your server know. We do this all the time.

Have fun!

I got the ribs this past January and they were decent. My daughter and I managed to finish them off! ;)

Everything else that came with them though was not good--coleslaw and beans--both were gross.

We've talked about going every trip & finally got ADRs this past November. Our kids (DS6 & DD2) really liked it, the milkshakes were great, & the food was unremarkable...nothing besides the shakes made a lasting impression. I would do it again, just for the enjoyment that the kids got out of the atmosphere.

We are booked here for our October trip and I am looking forward to it! I ate at 50's last trip and was sorta eh about it, but we didn't get a great waitress!

But, reading this thread made me think of something..... my DH is somewhat Pooh sized- 6'3" 320 lbs. Is this going to be a problem in the cars? If we have to do a picnic table, I think I'll just cancel the ressie and try 50's again!

We like Sci-Fi. We have eaten there on our last three trips and had a good meal every time.
