Is there anything good on the menu at Sci-Fi in MGM Studio's ?

I have read - a great place for desert. But what about....

All American Burger - Flame broiled ½ pound Beef Patty topped with your choice of American or Swiss Cheese, served with fries $10.99
(Add Sautéed Onions, Mushrooms or Crispy Bacon for $.79 ea.)

BBQ Chicken Breast Sandwich - Basted with Midnight B-B-Q Sauce, topped with Smoked Gouda Cheese, Crispy Onion Straws on a Kaiser Roll, with Fries $13.99

Kids menu:
Grilled Chicken Breast roasted potatoes and green beans $5.99
Macaroni and Cheese $4.99
Hamburger served with fries $4.99
Chicken nuggets with fries $4.99

The car tables look cool to my DH.

Should we eat a meal - or just go for desert ?

We've eaten there and didn't think the food was bad at all. Not great mind you though. It was burgers and fries. They were warm and tastey. But we really went for the atmosphere. We had a great time and would have gone back this last visit but there just wasn't enough time. I would eat there again. Give it a chance.

We eat there every trip, it's always my son's one request for a table service meal. The burgers are really pretty good, as are the onion rings and of course the ice cream. I never get too adventerous with the food there, after what I've read on these boards, but the overall experience is what's fun, kind of like 50's Prime Time. I prefer to pay OOP for this one, as opposed to burning a table service credit for a burger type meal.

We went last August and really enjoyed the atmosphere-dark, quiet and relaxing-a nice change of pace at WDW!
The food....ummm....well, I liked the artichoke spinach dip but not the catfish sandwich. And my DH really liked the chocolate shakes but not the burger. My DS8 vowed to never go back because of the food. The desserts? The apple crisp was horrid. Sundaes were ok, nothing special. But the atmosphere is cool!! And our service was fantastic!!

We went on our last trip right before christmas and I would definately go back. DH and I had the steak sandwiches with onion rings and DD had the hamburger and a chocolate milkshake. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice.

Gone Disney

If you go for lunch and stick with burgers, fries, and shakes, the food is actually good. I think why you see so many complaints about the food at Sci Fi is that people go there and order meals that are much too adventurous for the setting. It is by no means a fine dining establishment. Just think of what you would (and would not) order at a burger joint, and you should be fine. :)

We usually eat there once every trip and it has always been good. You have to have a milkshake with your food! :earsgirl:

We went there last year and my son (17 at the time) STILL remembers how he enjoyed the fried chicken! Very enjoyable memories of the meals (lunch).

We eat here most trips, including last week, but we always do lunch, not dinner. This trip we had onion rings and spinach dip as appetizers, 4 of us had burgers and fries of some sort and I had the chili. And, we all had milkshakes! Very good. Never had dessert here, always too full from the meal. I don't care for their salads, however.

I also agree if you stick to the simple fare you should be fine. I loved the onion rings. DH had a cheeseburger and I had steak. The steak was edible but I wasnt expecting 4 star quality. Milkshakes are tasty. Had a sundae and my only complaint is that the ice cream was almost melted by the time our server brought it out.

The problem with the Sci-Fi is the price to value. It seems a little pricer for the quality. also keep in mind that if you oder things like the Ribs. Which are good, not the best, but good. You run out of table space in a hurry.

But if you have never eaten here it is definetly one of the coolest resturants at MGM if not the whole (disney) world. It will make you miss the old Drive-ins.

Eat there don't just get a dessert. And if your going during a crowded time don;t assume you will get in without a PS. Was there in June and saw tons of people turned away.

I usually get the BBQ chicken sandwich and have always enjoyed it. I've also had a delicious chicken caesar salad there and a good hamburger. My parents had the reuben sandwich and said it was great. The milk shakes are yummy too.

The only thing I've ever had there that I disliked was the steak sandwich. It had a strong pungent odor and the same strong pungent taste. Won't be ordering that one again. :crazy2:

I love it there. I think the price might be a little more than I would normally pay, but you are definatly paying for the atmosphere.

The milkshakes are wonderful!

We have now made a trip for lunch at the SF a staple of our trips after our first time to eat there two trips ago. I have often heard that many items off of the dinner menu are not very good at all, but we always get burgers and fries or rings and we all think they are actually very good.

Price/value? I think it is in line with anywhere else on the property and fares very well in the value category when compared to walk-ups like Electric Umbrella, Pecos Bills, etc.

Enjoy!

The atmosphere makes this place - DD loves it and we've been on each trip. I've gotten a pasta/veggie thing - usually comes with chicken, but I have them leave that off - and it's hard to get that terribly wrong. :)

we've only eaten there once and it was very expensive for the quality of food imo.. husband's burger was burnt way past normal even well done( and he had ordered "medium" ) and my popcorn soup ( not on present menu) was a basic smallish bowl of canned soup with a couple of popcorn pieces on top (soup was fine but not for the price). the service was very poor and it took forever to get seated and served...we won't go back even for the cute atmosphere, to many other nice places that i don't feel like i was ripped off like i did there. our bill was around $30 not including tip

We went in October and have since chalked it up to be on the not to be missed list. The atmosphere alone is worth a trip. Never been anywhere quite like it. The food is not bad, really. I had the chicken sandwich and I really did like it. DH had the steak sandwich and it was pretty tough, so I would echo someone else's advice to steer clear of that one. I ordered the grilled chicken entree for the kids and they loved it, except for the green beans. :earseek: DS refused to eat them. After tasting them, I did not make him. But the funniest thing happened...our server did. He kept calling DS "Scooter", and every time he walked by our table, uhhh...car, he would say "Scooter, green beans...Don't make me come over there, Scooter" He kind of reminded me of Jack Black in a way, and DS just ROTF everytime he came around. As you can tell, we had a great time there.

BTW, do NOT miss the Oreo milkshake. I was stuffed, but just could not pass that baby up. Yum Yum.

The Sci-Fi Drive-In is an experience that's absolutely not to be missed. The 1950's drive-in theatre atmosphere is extremely well done, and eating in fiberglass convertibles was great fun. The restaurant is noticeably quiet as you enter because most patrons are watching the huge screen. Although the black & white sci-fi movie clips may appeal to an older audience, I felt that younger viewers would probably have preferred a classic Disney presentation (which of course would require changing the restaurant's themed name).

The Sci-Fi, however, is only worth going to if you are not very hungry. I don't know how anyone can make a simple $13.00 turkey sandwich taste so bad. Ours tasted like it was actually left over from the 1950's. As the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World accurately suggests, the Sci-Fi Drive-In is more of an attraction than a restaurant. Have lunch elsewhere, and only have dessert at the Sci-Fi. The chocolate milk shakes are particularly noteworthy

:wave2: Can you order a burger at dinner? I noticed that it was only on the lunch menu.

We had lunch at Sci-Fi last summer for the first time, and we all enjoyed it :3dglasses We all ordered hamburgers and milkshakes (to be on the safe side. lol), and we thought they were good :) Here's a picture:
