Sci-Fi - How bad is the food ?

The food isnt bad, its just not impressive, thats why I dont usually go. I preffer 50's prime time by far. Just a matter of opinion :p

even though we had read mostly bad reviews and LOVED IT! We really wanted to experience the atmosphere (it is great!) but were very pleased with the food. It was not gormet but the quality and portions were very good and we the service was excellent. We will eat there again, for sure!

It's not haute cuisine, but we have always liked their burger, fries and shakes fare. I did try their chili and wouldn't recommend that. Enjoy--it's fun!

Are the movies scary? I want to take my 2 & 5 yr old girls.

The room is darkened, but the films are mostly old clips and trailers - nothing lasts long. You won't find yourself stuck with a full-length zombie movie or anything. :) Offhand, I can't remember anythign scary. DD didn't react to anything, at any rate, so it couldn't have been bad. :flower:

My entire family completely enjoyed SciFi and we've added it to the must list when we go back. The kids (DS11, DD's 10 and 2) ate everything without complaint (not a small feat!). Like everyone has said, stick to the burger joint food and you can't go wrong. The attmosphere was great. I was absolutely amazed at how quiet it was in there. Not a kid screaming or complaining and quite dark. A very nice break from a hectic day at MGM.

I say don't miss it! BTW the movie clips weren't scary at all. In fact, some were actually funny.

We  Sci-Fi! We usually do lunch there and the kids love the atmosphere. We have had terrific servers and DH and I usually split the BBQ Chicken sandwich, which is very, very tasty. Used to come with crinkle-cut fries but on last trip in June, just regular fries. :confused3 We also get the house salad, also very good. DH and I usually share meals and Sci-Fi plates them separately before serving them, which also is nice. We were there celebrating an anniversary one trip and they served a nice sundae for 2 and announced us to the restaurant, which was fun.

Ate here this last October - ignored the advice of Unofficial Guide thankfully (which is to avoid it). Had the best meal of our trip, honestly and we ate at some nice restaurants. The ambience and friendly service was excellent and the food good also - I had the pasta with seafood - also had dessert and a cocktail with light up ice cubes. The ice cubes were re-issued this Christmas - no one over here had seen anything like them.

The Sci Fi will be a 'must do' on our next trip in August.

:wave2: Hello...we really like eating there. We went for lunch for the first time in early Nov and my DDs are still talking about it. I had the onion rings and they were great. I also had the chicken ceasar salad and it was ok. The chicken was really dry and tasteless but the salad part was good.
My DDs had the burgers and said they were great. I would go again.

We usually go and have the burgers/onion rings/shakes. Once I got the chicken sandwich and it was awful. Stick with the burgers and you'll be fine. Have fun.

Overall our meal was pretty good. I loved the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich. It was huge, but lacking in flavor. It was not barbequed chicken, but tasted like a grilled piece of chicken with some sauce added to it before it was plated. It wasn't bad but it could have been better. It is a fun place to go to and I would definitely go back!

I love the Sci-Fi Diner . .. you ust can't expect a fine dining experience. My fiance and I split the BBQ ribs and they were excellent and fed us both!! (we did have a salad to start!)
BUT what I find the best about eating at the Sci-Fi Diner (besides the atmospere) is that my fiance is a burger and fries kind of guy, and trying to drag him to some of the non-counter service places is awful (especially since I love all fine dining) so the Sci-Fi is a fun place for both of us and it actually makes him take a break and sit down!!

My husband and I went for the first time a few weeks ago. We LOVED the food! We both had burgers and they were awesome. They were huge so I feel like we got our money's worth :)

we love the sci fi dine in, the ambiance is so neat. we normally get the burger or rueben & a shake.

We never had a bad meal there been there 5 times. :Pinkbounc

We have enjoyed our trips to Sci-Fi. We enjoy it better than 50's actually. The waiters do some antics that go along with the movie, like scream or yell OH NO or something. The milkshakes are super yummy!

Its great to put the kids in the front seat and the grown ups behind ;)

this is probably a stupid question- but everyone keeps mentioning the great shakes here... we have a lunch ADR coming up and I'm going for the ambiance and hopefully a decent burger. Dh likes shakes but when I checked the menu on allears... only shakes I saw were the Cosmic concoctions...shakes w/alcohol. Are there 'virgin' shakes avail???

Haven't read all the posts, but this is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is OK, but the atmosphere is a lot of fun and very relaxing. I would go for a meal, and not just dessert. Maybe get a drink with a glowing ice cube! :Pinkbounc

They just have plain old milkshakes....Choc, Vanilla and Oreo Cookie were the ones we had last month. Very yummy. Not sure what they make in the "alcohol" shakes. Never really noticed (or looked for them) on the menu. I noticed they aren't on the menu on Deb's site, but they are definitely on the menu (inside front cover for lunch, as I recall). No glow in the dark cubes, though.
