We are headed to the World in March with reservations at the Sci-Fi Drive-In while in the Hollywood Studios. I read in an unofficail guide the other day that the food there was not all that great.

Can anybody that has been give an honest review? My wife's co-worker, who goes 2x a year, said the kids would love it. Any thoughts?

We are going to be at Disney this week and have reservations for the Sci-Fi- this is a new restaurant for us and we also are anxious to try it and a little unsure. Will let you know how it is.... I plan on posting our restaurant hits and misses next week after we get home.

We have eaten at Sci-Fi about five times (always at lunch). We go because the atmosphere is great and our two DD's enjoy it. The food is average at best but it is a truly unique WDW experience. I would definitely recommend it (but do not order anything unusual).

In Dec. I had:

Spinach and Artichoke Dip-just OK, kind of runny
Angus Chuck Burger-best burger I've had in a while!
with cucumber-melon salad(actually asked for the recipe)
Chocolate Tart -good(might have been really good, but I was too full to eat more than a couple of bites :guilty: )

I would go back for the burger and cucumber melon salad. :thumbsup2

forgive me for being ignorant...but what is with the DD, DH, DS, etc? I just joined this site today but i have been reading it for a while now. Please enlighten a newbie.

I ate at Sci-Fi over the summer for the first time and it was tons of fun! The food is average, with some choices better than others. The atmosphere is really what you go for I think. But the chocolate milkshakes are to die for, IMHO.

We have eaten there twice and plan on going again in Jan 2009. My dd's (8 & 10 y/o) love sci-fi for the atmosphere, not so much the food :) We've eaten there for lunch and dinner and like the lunch items better. Hope thishelps. :goodvibes

very unique place, stay with the burgers & fries, sit back & enjoy the show.

:happytv:

We LOVED it. It was a great burger, great shakes and the atmosphere is tons of fun. I would definately go again in the future.

As many have said, the food here is secondary to the entertainment - sitting in a car with "stars" overhead, watching film clips on a movie screen. Most of the time, you can't go wrong with the burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes. We've also had some success with the chili, the spinach dip and the BLT soup. Have never had a decent steak, although this isn't really a venue for that. . . . Remember, though, that these are all just opinions based upon multiple visits, and, like most restaurants, the quality of the food is always given to chance. We have actually had some of our best food here during peak busy times - perhaps they are moving the food out so fast that it doesn't have time to sit ? That said, our favorite time to visit is either when they first open or a lunch at the tail end of the lunch rush (1 - 2 ish).

Definitely worth at least one try though, if you enjoy old-time horror movies and the ambience of a drive in movie theatre . . . . . especially if you are on the dining plan.

The SciFi is a must do for us. We usually get the burgers and we have never been unhappy with the food. Some other members of our family that we went with last year got some other items and really enjoyed their food. And of course what great atmosphere. So fun! I would highly recommend it!

Absolutely terrible.

Ate there at night and we froze inside the building. Service was very slow AND PROBABLY WATCHED 5 REUNS OF THE SAME TAPE PRIOR TO GETTING DINNER.

Avoid it

We just returned two days ago from a week at WDW. We had lunch at Sci Fi. We've eaten there many times, always stick to the burgers. This trip, I was trying to eat low fat for health reasons and decided to try the turkey sandwich with the side salad. It was by far the worst food I've ever eaten in my life. The rest of the group had the burgers and said they were decent. So whatever you do, don't order that turkey sandwich.

Also, I was disappointed to see that the size of the onion ring order has diminished so much. I'm sure the dining plan has something to do with it (we do DDE not DDP) because it was a small plate with tiny onion rings.

Also, have to agree with PP, it's very cold in there. It's like that no matter what time of year we go.

Yes, indeed. Go for the burgers, stay for the atmosphere. This is not fine dining, by any stretch of the imagination. That said, its a must-do for our family on every trip. DW and I went on out Disneymoon and we still return with DS5. No doubt his favorite stop each trip. :thumbsup2

We were just at Disney a few weeks ago and decided to have lunch on our last day at Sci-Fi Drive-In on a whim. So glad we did! The food was nothing special at all, but it wasn't bad. We had onion rings, burgers & fries, & milkshakes, & it went perfectly with the atmosphere. We will go back for the atmosphere alone. It was such a cool place! One of Disney's best themed restaurants. Very fun, totally worth it!

I HATED it. The restaurant was 75% empty, and they put us in the back of a full car next right next to the kitchen (I mean RIGHT next to the swinging doors. Weird with the staff standing there staring at the back of my head, and the light from the kitchen was distracting). And the lady in front of me had waist length hair. I felt like my burger was fur-coated.

Just don't like sharing space so close with someone I don't know, especially since the restaurant was mostly empty. We had to wait about 10 minutes as well, which I didn't get. The only restaurant in WDW I wouldn't visit again. But, just my experience.

We walked in to Sci-Fi on a whim in December and the food and atmosphere were great!! I had the chicken sandwich and DH had the rueben. Both were great. Had the onion rings too. Didn't make it there this trip, but hope to in April or May. I'd say definitely give it a try!! :cutie:

Capn Sparrow you were asking for an interpretation of the abbreviations.... DH = Dear Husband; DD = dear daughter, DS = dear son; DSIL = Dear sister-in-law etc. etc. etc.
