School Suspension - Youngest?

First grader who brought a pocket knife to school. Rules are set in stone... no flexibility for age.

My friend's DS took a throwing star to school in 3rd grade and got suspended for 5 days...no tolerance. He took it for show and tell, but his mom did not know he took it until the school called and told her he was suspended.

A nearby school will suspend Kindergarteners. They have a green light/yellow light/ red light rule.. and once you hit red light, you are sent home for the day. And once you have hit red light so many times, you get suspended.

The school my children go to just throw a student out. We are given a list of rules at the beginning of the year. If you break one you are gone. If a child has been unruly or having learning problems they are not invited back after the 5th grade. By the high school years there aren't many more problem students.

They throw out kids that have learning problems?

Please tell me this is a private school.

Not sure about the legality of this one.

Kindergartner sent home for the rest of the day for biting so hard it drew blood.

A 2nd grade boy was suspended for 2 days last year. There were some behaviour issues (couldn't keep his hands off the other kids) and it was a wake-up call to the parents. They still don't get there is anything wrong - poor kid needs some help and the parents are annoyed that one of them had to take time off work.

I would imagine maybe pp means, if they aren't keeping up their grades , due to laziness etc.

I attended an Episcopal school for a few years and if you didnt keep up due to not making an effort, you were not allowed to return the following year. You had to maintain a certain average to attend. Not sure what they did with children who had a learning disability, but you had to be tested to get in, so I would guess most likely it would be caught before hand :confused3.

Private schools can have students with learning problems leave. They are not held to the same laws as public schools in regards to students with special needs.

Most private schools are not adequately equipped to deal with special learning or behavioral situations. I don't believe the teachers even have to be certified in most private schools.

I teach pre-K in a public school. Last year, one of my students was suspended for freaking out on the bus, throwing things at the driver and calling her a witch (but with a b).

It kind of ticked me off because this child disrupted my class with outbursts like this ALL THE TIME. He threw chairs, he punched and kicked me and my aide, spit in our faces, screamed obscenities at us, etc. But we were told over and over again that he couldn't be suspended because he was pre-K. He was in the system, being tested, etc. But it wasn't helping us during the process! He is now labeled emotionally handicapped and in an 8:1:1 classroom.
