School Hols?

Hey guys - I'm from Australia and want to know when the school season kicks in in Florida? I'm wanting to go late May for about 8 days and hoping I'll be in and out of Disney before the hols commence and the parks get inundated! Thanks in advance.

There is no one set day for schools to get out, but in general most schools get out between the end of May to end of June. My kids get out June 8th same as last year. We got to WDW on the 10th and it wasn't bad but the traffic did pick up over our 10 day trip.

Hi, this post is meant with the best of intentions. I think you might not be getting a lot of answers to your question simply because us US residents don't readily recognize your "hols" abbreviation. Maybe try editing your title spelling out "Holidays" or using "Summer Vacation" instead. Have a great trip!

At least in the past, Florida schools haven't gotten out until June. We have gone in May and it is wonderful!!! Almost no one is there...the only times you'll have a problem is weekends!

My friend lives in the St. Pete/Tampa area. Her children were out last year on May 18. We were at WDW from May 12-19 and thought the crowds were on the light side of moderate and were very manageable.

A general rule of thumb is southern schools (NC, SC, GA, FL) let out mid-May to the end of May. Northern schools (OH, PA, NY, CT, MA, NJ, and so on) let out the beginning of June to mid-June.

One other thing to keep in mind when traveling in May is Memorial Day. Most US employers give a three day weekend and some even a four day holiday. Crowds will peek in May for Memorial Day. Memorial Day is always the last Monday in May. In 2008, Memorial Day is May 26.

We live in GA. Last year our last day (which we used for travel since nothing happens then) was May 18. This year it's one week later. I have to say that May 18- 22 was wonderful, light crowds and wonderful temperatures. I think that you should be fine in late May.

Schools in the mid-Atlantic and northeastern states all have very different schedules. Typically they don't start until after Labor Day, and don't get out until the third week of June. When their Spring Breaks fall is all over the place. Some are the week before Easter, some after, and some a whole month away from Easter all together.

Many urban school districts now have week long breaks in October or early November, and more in the spring, as they have gone to a year-round schedule.

You can bet that everyone in the states has off for at least the day before Thanksgiving through the weekend, and for all the days between Christmas and New Years.

I am in NW Florida and my kid's last day will be June 5th. School started a couple of weeks later this year so instead of getting out during the last half of May like last year it is the first part of June.

We are in GA and our last day is May 23rd. Most GA schools get out by May 30th. Florida schools go longer this year due to mandated start date of August 20th or later by the legislature. My nephews in Palm Beach County get out June 6th.
