Has anyone had their school district apply or get a waiver to not have to make up snow days?
My younger ds goes to a special needs school, not in our district, and the principal is assuming/planning that 5 of their snow days will be waived. They have had around 16 snow days.

I had heard that because we were under a State of Emergency that we may get the ones that we used during that time waived. I don't know if its a rumor based on fact or just wishful thinking.

From what I understand in PA, each district's superintendent has to apply for the days. It won't automatically be given. Our district is applying for 3, even though we used up 9.

Our school district is asking for 5 of the days to be waived.

I think it is a bunch of baloney. I pay taxes for the kids to go to school for 180 days and that is what they should go for. The teachers are getting paid for those 5 days, etc. I highly doubt we will get a "refund" on our taxes if they get the waiver. If they have to go for a few days into their summer vacation, so be it.

My kids are in school this year 183 days but we pay for 180, so I'm already getting a bargain

Well, in our case if our district does NOT get a waiver from the state our kids will be going to school until
JUNE 25th. We also lost President's Day as a holiday plus a single holiday in April is now a school-day.

agnes!

I hope your schools have air conditioning because ours don't!

When do your kids start? Our kids start right after Labor day and always go to the end of June. (even in the years where we go 180 days).

OP here, I have a problem with this because they are not taking away any spring break days, although my older ds (goes to h.s. in our district) is taking away every spring break day except good Friday!

What do you mean?

Our districts took away almost every day except Good Friday.

That would make me mad too. When I was a kid I don't think we ever had a full spring break because we always made up snow days then and rarely had many to tack on the end of the year. Parents knew not to plan vacations and stuff then because it was usually needed to make up days.

Last year, for Hurricane Ike, all the schools got the first week waived. Some of the schools were out for longer, so they had to make those up.

Where my younger (14) ds goes to school (not in our home school district) they are still planning on taking their scheduled Easter/S.Break days off, whereas where my older (16) ds goes (in our district) they took back every day except Good Friday.

Oh I see. I didn't realize your kids were in different districts. That's got to make it difficult.

June 25th is pretty average for us getting out here in my CT town. But we go 185 days rather than 180.

No school age kids at your house? :)

Oh my goodness.

Well, it should be interesting if my younger ds's school gets the waiver, and goes less days than my older ds.

In some of the districts here, the kiddos are going on Saturday mornings.

I agree, no waver for school days. School is important.
