I just found out today that my kids school/pto is looking for items for a bake sale tomorrow. I agreed to bake some things, just popped some apple bread in the oven and will either make cookies or cupcakes as well. the bread will be sold as a whole loaf, the cookies need to be in bags and will be sold for $1 each bag.

my question is how many cookies would you put in each bag?

another question, I don't have any cute celephane bags and don't have time to run to the craft store to get some. does anyone know if target carries them? if not my options are limited...zip lock, or can wrap them in regular plastic wrap. which/what would you do? I wish I had more time!

lastly, I can make cute sugar cookies (I have pumpkins/ghosts/etc) but not sure I have time to ice them, so would colored sprinkled ones be okay? or should to stay up late tonight frosting them instead? if I stay up late, do you think I can get away with a quick icing/sprinkle job instead of hauling out my icing tips and getting fancy. again, if I had more time, I'd love to get crazy here, but I just found out an hour ago and everything needs to be turned in tomorrow morning!

I would put 5 -6 six cookies in a bag. I think Target should have the bags...they should have some clear Halloween ones too. I wouldn't bother with the cut outs. I would just do drop cookies. IMO it is just easier. Hope this helps!

I would put 3 larger or 5 smaller cookies in the bag. You can probably find some fall/Halloween zip lock bags at Target right now-back by the Halloween Candy.

It depends on how big the cookies are. Maybe 3 or 4? If they're the large, nicely decorated/iced sugar cookies, maybe even 2?

I think Target sometimes does carry the cellaphane bags. Also, around holidays, they have holiday specific Ziploc bags - normally in their holiday sections. (They also have holiday specific cupcake mixes & frosting.)

If you don't have time to buy special bags, I'd use regular plastic wrap but leave a little "extra", gather up the wrap at the top, & then tie w/ curling ribbon.

I think colored sprinkles would be fine. I also think you could get away w/ a quick icing/sprinkle job too - that's probably what I would do... simply because sprinkles stick better to frosting than they do just to plain cookies. Also, you could probably justify less cookies/bag if the cookies were frosted.

As an aside, have you ever read the book I Don't Know How She Does It? In the opening scene, the very frazzled/stressed-out mother is up late at night trying to make a store-bought baked good look "home made" for her daughter's Christmas program the next day. It's a cute book, & your post reminded me of it! Well, except you really are home baking your items, of course! :)

thanks all! I ended up baking chocolate chip cookies and ghost/pumpkin sugar cookies. I cheated and used canned frosting for the sugar cookies, but they turned out really cute. and target did have some cute halloween cellaphane bags. my only concern is how do I pack up the frosted sugar cookies? I'm afraid putting them into the bags will mess up the frosting. any ideas? I popped them in the fridge to harden up the frosting, but not sure if that is enough.

Put them on Styrofoam plates, stick some toothpicks in the plate and cover with plastic wrap or slide the plate into the cellophane bag if it fits.
