I am looking for a fun way to tell my kids about the Nov trip to WDW. I was hoping to incorporate a scavenger hunt through the house to reveal the news. Has anyone done this and maybe have their info/ideas to share? I'd love any help

I love making scavenger hunts. Im not a mom, but all my freinds are. The most popular scavenger hunt so far was the spelling one. I would write out a clue and each clue would have a letter and the letter spelled out where the prize was.
Clues such as:
You step on me when your feet are wet (b) mat in hall
You pick up mail here (a) mail box
You walk all over me, up and down (c) stairs
You open me when you sit on time out, for making mommy mad (k) porch door
You look down from time out and see me (y) tree
Im wet and dry and HOT HOT HOT (a) washer and dryer room
I make lots of noise and make jenny nuts (r) CATS!!! (took um 15 minutes to figure out which one and where it was)
Its PINK!!! YUCK (d) hall wall

Word spelled out BACKYARD and it was cool to see all the kids work together. It was cool to wacth them all go runnning out back to try to find the hidden prize. Each clue had a number on it to make spelling eaiser (since the kids ranged from 2-12)

Well I have a great idea for letting them know about the trip. Its not so much a scavenger hunt as a reward for getting little chores around the house done. I went to the disney store near my house and bought disney dollars ( Google them ) everytime my daughter cleaned up her toys took a nap without giving me a hard time or just simply was on her best behavior I gave her one dollar. Once she got all $20 I told her that we were going to visit the Special Disney Bank (aka Magic Kingdom). Once we arrived at the park she had her spending money.

Janay we do something like this already. We love the idea of the kids having their own spending money. It keeps them from begging us for everything. I love the scavenger hunt idea. Keep them coming!

This is what I used this year. I had envelopes in each location with the word in parenthesis on a card inside and another clue, too. Clue #6 doesn't rhyme just to be silly, they thought that was funny. They loved the whole thing. At the end of the hunt was a box with Mickey head balloons that floated up and custom "tickets" designed from the Creative DISign board here. I really should get my pretrip report started!

Scavenger hunt to reveal:

Birthdays are special, really neat,
A time to celebrate, what a treat!
A scavenger hunt for today
What will each message say?

A - Clue number one, now don’t whine…
Is under the table where we dine.

B - (how)
Clue number two has some power
Check the place where you shower

C - (would)
Clue number three, it has been said
Might be under Tara’s bed

D - (you)
Clue number four is a sneezer
Yep, you guessed it, in the freezer!

E - (like)
Clue number five is where you test your will
Working out on the treadmill

F - (to spend)
Clue number six is under the basement stairs.

G - (Christmas)
Clue number seven, are you dying to hear?
Where we will spend Christmas at the end of this year?
Well, well, wouldn’t you like to know?
Go back to the couch, it’s on with the show!

Thanks everyone I combined ideas and made up a hunt. Just waiting a few weeks until we all will be home an evening with no sports. I am excited

We're trying to come up with one too. We had kind of decided on a code at the end, where each girl has to decode certain words, then they both put them together to reveal the sentence. I'm thinking I don't want the word "Disney" in it because I want them to get the whole sentence together before they get all excited. Something with generic words in it, like "We're going to ride Test Track next week" and one girl gets test and one gets track...

I also downloaded some Disney fonts, and composed a letter from Goofy, which I could put in the mail, but we're leaning towards the treasure hunt now. I guess there could still be a letter after they do the code! If I can get WordPerfect to print, it keeps locking up.

Just 2 weekends ago we finally told our kids we are going in November. We set it up at the grandparents house (bigger backyard!) and just left clues from one area to the next. The final clue was in the house where we could all watch them easily. I ordered the Disney maps in their name and they found it at the final clue along with a note that said "Your Disney Adventure begins in __ days!" They LOVED it and wanted to do it again! Lots of fun for us too! Don't forget your camera either - their looks are priceless!!:lovestruc

Well, DH must have had some spare time today because he came home with his plan. At each location, each girl will have a slip of paper with a math problem. The number they come up with is the number that belongs to the letter on the slip. When they find and solve all their problems, they will come to the kitchen table where the message can be decoded with their answers. It will say something like "We are going to Disney World on Wednesday".

We still disagree on when to do it! I want it at least a week before...so I can get started packing. DH thinks closer to departure day.
