What is the scariest book you've read? I want to pick a frightening book for bookclub this month and am in need of suggestions.

Thanks! pirate:

Scary how? Scary Jason Axe murder type book or scary this could be real type book? I don't read scary books because then I have to sleep with the lights on and I can't sleep with the lights on :rotfl2: .

Scary either way. Real life scary OR Stephan King scary. Doesn't matter. I want them to need to sleep with the lights on. I am sure they will wimp out on me like usual.

The Shining by Stephen King. The Silence of the Lambs also scared me, but in a different way.

It by Stephen King is my choice for scariest book. I think it was the whole clown thing. Plus the fact that I was scared for a long time to bend down too close to the drain in the sink.

After reading the Ted Bundy story I stopped reading (and going out on my own at night).

Another vote for Stephen King, except I'd have to say it's The Stand.

But really, just about anything written by him, except for Gerald's Game. That book wasn't scary, just gross!

Yeah, The Stand is awesome. I've also read The Shining (I made my former bookclub in Alaska read that one). Will avoid Gerald's Game.

Wow, that's too funny! My all-time favorite book is The Stand, while I couldn't finish Gerald's Game 'cos it freaked me...

I couldn't finish Gerald's Game either; and I'll never look at a pair of handcuffs the same way ever again... :rotfl: :rotfl:

IRS 1040 Instructions :scared1:

You want me to give how much to the government?

What's scarier than a freaky clown? Stephen King's It is probably the scariest thing I've read. Although, I admittedly don't read a lot of scary stuff.

And I thought I was the only one afraid of the drain! :rotfl: (not anymore though)

The Rising by LaHaye and Jensen scared me and really bothered me a lot.

I think 'It' may be a little too long for my bookclubbers to finish in a month. They have been known to take FOREVER on books.

I do have to admit, with 2 of you saying 'Gerald's Game' was so gross, it peaks my interest. :rotfl:

I didn't think The Stand was scary as much as it was thought provoking.

If you can get your hands on a copy of Gray Matter I think that one would be great. It's a series of short stories. There is a story in there called The Boogyman. I read it for the first time 16 years ago and still sleep with the nightlight on and the closet door shut.

Don't say I didn't warn ya! :rotfl:

I can handle a lot when reading a book (seeing it in a movie is an entirely different matter--I can read about blood, but can't handle the sight of it at all). This book was simply over the top, like he was trying to figure out just how gross he could get!

The Taking by Dean Koontz..its a suspense novel but it makes you think and is scary..its been a while since I read it but it is one of the only books I have kept to read again (I am a huge reader too..5-6 books a month) I never keep books I usually pass them on but this one is a definite keeper.

Yeah, I've read the description of it, and I don't think we'll read it as a club. Just found it interesting that it was THAT gross! :teeth:
