Scandal in New Jersey?

Money Laundering in ... NEW JERSEY? I am shocked and appalled! :scared1:

:)

I heard about this on the radio while driving to work around 7 this morning.

Didn't read the link, but supposedly there are so many suspects that they are bringing them in by the busload.

The tradition continues!!! Hudson County is the most corrupt county in the nation. (it beats Cook County by far) They never learn...

Looks like they finally nailed the Secaucus mayor and the newly sworn in mayor of Hoboken. Also nailed Jersey City Council President Vega. Great job FEDS!!!

Here is the www.1010wins.com piece....

Corruption, Money Laundering Probe Nets Arrests of 2 NJ Mayors

NEWARK, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- The mayors of two major New Jersey cities and an assemblyman are under arrest Thursday as part of a major corruption and international money laundering conspiracy probe.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says approximately 30 arrests have occurred in the two-track investigation.

They include Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt of Ocean County, Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III, Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell and Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini.

Cars are backed up four deep with suspects outside the FBI's Newark office.

The federal prosecutor says arrests that are part of the money-laundering investigation include several rabbis in New York and New Jersey.

U.S. Treasury officials say more than half of all the suspicious financial transaction reports filed by New Jersey banks over a 12-year period ending in 2008 involved money laundering.

Surprise surprise....

I swear, this state is the armpit of America..

Oh My! Must go to my local boards. I swear my city councilman is the only decent politician in the whole county. And the people in the county are just so stupid to keep voting in these corrupt politicians.

I bet our mayor goes down by days end. He's probably hiding somewhere.

Everyone on the local boards are celebrating.

nothing new here in NJ :sad2:
We had a councilman in my town sent to jail for accepting bribes along with his brother who was the mayor of the next town over. People think they are invincible and will get away with the stupid things they decide to do.

I'm so proud of our lovely state. Way to make the Jers look good. First the Housewives, now this.

And to think that there is a long thread on this very board all about how NJ property taxes have shot up this year. Hmmmmm....gee, I wonder why.

agnes!

Holy Cow!

Healy must be hiding in a bunker somewhere.

And that moron I got in an argument with during the last election landed himself in jail. Guy Catrillo.

:laundy:

Could you believe the arrogance of this ******* !!

The case involves an undercover government informant who began cooperating with authorities in 2006, after being charged with bank fraud, according to a criminal complaint.

The informant, who posed as a real estate developer interested in building in Hoboken, met in April at a diner with Cammarano, then a mayoral candidate, and Michael Schaffer, a North Hudson Utilities Authority commissioner, and asked for help landing building approvals, authorities said.

At the end of the meeting, the informant told Cammarano he would give Schaffer $10,000, according to the complaint.

"Just make sure you expedite my stuff. That's all I ask," the informant allegedly said.

During a May 19, meeting at a Hoboken diner, Cammarano allegedly told the informant that not even criminal charges could keep him from winning the mayoral race. "I could be, uh, indicted and I'd still win," Cammarano allegedly said.

Then the informant said he would pay another $5,000 cash for help with development approvals, prompting Cammarano to say: "Beautiful," according to the complaint.

I hate being called the armpit of the USA, it really isn't nice.

Don't get me wrong our politics are very corrupt and have been for years and years and years.

My stepfather was indicted several years ago, just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time along with others because they were trying to get to someone else.

I'm not saying the people today aren't guilty of things but you have no idea how this tears families apart. Especially if certain people really had nothing to do with it.

WOW! Sorry just listening to it live on ABC, they said this was over a 10 year period! That is amazing. I am speechless right now. I feel sorry for my state.:sad2:

Money laundering AND organ selling.

Money is easy to get ones hands on, where the heck are they getting organs?

Is this a case of "Tell us when you're making the hit, I'll have the doctor ready"?

They said that someone who needed money would be offered $10,000 for their kidney (while alive) and the buyer would turn around and sell it for $160,000!
