SCAD -Savannah College of Art and Design-- any experiences?

That sounds like clown college!! Is there really a clown college because that's where I've been telling my DD that she's headed! :woohoo: :lmao:

NO, it's actually a decent little art college, HOWEVER it's owned (or run or named, not sure of it's acutal history) by the same Ringling family that performs in circuses. The Ringling family seems to be a prominent family in Sarasota.

Anyone here from Sarasota that can clear this information up................

jrmasm,

You'll want to send your daughter to Florida State University, then. They do have one of the very few circus colleges in the US (and a very good one). Ignorant gator fans frequently make jokes about FSU being a clown college. They're just jealous.

I went to an expensive private school in the same price range but had a full tuition scholarship/grant package so I only had to pay for room and board. Cost way less than $30,000 per year by that point. You never know if you don't try.

Robin..I am going to PM you, but PLEASE have him check out Ringling(Sarasota) I am running out to the orthodontist but will be in touch..honestly, SCAD looks impressive, but there is a bit of a concern...is he looking at the city campus or Savannah? Which major? My DD attends Ringling for Computer Animation and her BF is in their Game Arts major..matter of fact top kid in his major:thumbsup2 They are both Juniors now. I have a wealth of info ...look fo rmy pm this evening

Though it can be a bit pricey, SCAD is an excellent school. I have a sister who graduated and is doing well in NY now and can't speak highly enough. Both campuses are fine, SCAD bought out the Atlanta College of Art and Design a few years back giving them the Atlanta location. There are schools offering similar education, so do look around

Sweet! Thanks :thumbsup2

But it's NOT $30,000 unless the kid doesn't get to eat or sleep in a bed while he's there.

It has a great reputation. We wrestled with the art school issue when our middle son was looking at colleges. We thought his options might be broader if he went to a comprehensive university. That's what he did and he'll graduate with a BFA in May.

Yes, SOME private colleges have more money to give. SOME of the ones who give the money are even schools good enough to consider. Haven't we beaten this topic to death on several threads?

Elon, which is mentioned on this thread, IS one of those good private colleges with a good reputation for giving out scholarships.

UGA has one of the best journalism programs around. They do have a telecommunications division.

I know a couple of people that attend SCAD...One art and one fashion design I think. Has your child considered NYU or USC if TV is the passion. My dd is a sophmore in NYU Tisch's TV and Film department and it is only comparable to USC.

I think John from Owner's Locker has a daughter at SCAD. Try sending him a message. http://www.ownerslocker.com/contact/

We are dealing with a similar issue in regards to the HOPE scholarship. DD graduates next year and has her sights set on Boston U or GWU. She refuses to believe that any Georgia school will be a good fit for her. :headache:

He wanted to leave Ga also, but now that I'm taking care of my elderly uncle he decided maybe we'd better stay close to relatives. Everything depends.

I'm not from Sarasota but my DD is a Junior at Ringling in their Computer Animation program. They are the #1 school in the nation for CA, and 4th worldwide.

my DD has endured every clown joke out there, but believe me the school is quite serious at turning out top art talent.
