SB: Serendipity Squares

Has anyone tried making serendipity squares?

I made my first ones today. I used a red white and blue color theme. I thought I might use them in my 4th of July layout. I just bought an X box. It worked out great. Maybe after a few of us try them we could have a swap.

I haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list. I think they look pretty cool. I think a swap would be fun!

I just read about these on Graceful Bee yesterday!! I was thinking I would like to try them. I don't have a huge variety of stamps though. Of course the ones I do have are Mickey so that could be right on for this group!! Were they very hard? And what is an X box?

I made my serendipity squares using the non stamping method. I just used printed papers. The examples looked as if they were using different texture papers too. The stamps look as if they give the squares more depth. I think I will try my next ones using chalks in the place of the stamps

The X box is the tiny xyron sticker maker that is shaped like an X. It is only an inch and a quarter wide. Walmart had them for $7 something. It looked perfect for making the squares.

I have one of those Xyron's and it is officially called a Xyron Quick Sticker 150.

I havent used mine much but the idea of Serendipity Squares would be perfect for using it so thanks for the inspiration

Wow...I have a Xyron. I'm ashamed to admit I got it for Christmas and it's still in the box. I am the worst about trying anything new that requires me reading the instructions. I think I might get it out this weekend and give it a try.

I looked at the pics. but didn't see the instructions. I have a friend who would be great at those! I'm always a little nervous to try something new (no coloring outside the lines!) but usually like it.

I have been curious about the Xyron machines. When Lisa Bernson uses it on QVC it looks so fast. Does it waste a lot? Are the refills expensive? Is the machine that is sold in the office section of Walmart that says Xyron technology the same thing?

I tried them! Did you put 4 of them together on a matted background like on Graceful Bee? I used blk gingham, red polka dot (like Minnie's dress) on black cardstock then I stamped over them with some Mickey stamps. I mounted 4 of them together on a blk background. I like the technique, and I'm anxious to try it with a more muted paper.

Candi, I like the sound of your Minnie squares. I am starting a rainforest cafe layout. I used sort of a pea green card stock for the background in addition to a printed greens I added brown and green twistel and a cream mulberry paper. I haven't put the layout together but I think I am going to be happy with the look using the serendipity squares.

I just finished my squares. A warning to those who haven't tried it yet; it really looks bad until you cut it up and mat them! I almost gave up after looking at my mess of torn vellum, mulberry paper, two patterned papers and stamps. But I cut them into 1 inch squares and matted them around a 5x7 picture and it looks great!

For a Disney idea, I think different colors of mouse ears punches cut up this way would look great. Maybe I will try that next.
