Say what?? You are 34 and never been???

My DH has lived a sheltered life. I know he has never been to WDW, but today I found out that he has NEVER been to Florida. I have been to FL and WDW multiple times and this trip is to let him enjoy WDW at least once without kids and then take the kids starting next year.

He told me today that he wants to spend a day or two sightseeing in Orlando.
Uhhhhhh...... what is there to see other than theme parks?

I don't want to discourage him by myself, however, I really feel that he would have much more fun at WDW than spending time on the antiquated and delapitated I-Drive.

We are only going for six days in Jan and staying on WDW property, without a rental car.

I will show him this thread so please tell him what Orlando is REALLY like

If it makes you feel any better, I hadn't been to FL or WDW until I was 39. (First trip to WDW and FL was last year because it turned out to be cheaper than a trip to DLR and I'm on the same coast.) I leave for my third trip to WDW in 23 days.

As for things to see in the Orlando area, if you can get over there, Kennedy Space Center is about an hour away. You might be able to find a bus from WDW property out there, but I think he'll be so enthralled with WDW that he won't even think about going anywhere off property. I know there are plenty of places I haven't seen yet on the property so hopefully he'll have as much fun.

Orlando has almost anything and everything you can think of. Downtown Orlando is a lot of fun and has great nightlife/shopping. Theres Universal, International Drive.. i could go on forever and tell you about all the things to do in Orlando but I found this list that really says it all.. i've done a lot of these things on this list and it is very reliable, hopefully it helps

I actually met some people from Winter Haven the other day at a training seminar that don't even know how to get to WDW and its only 30 minutes away. . .lol. crazy people. . .

The last time I went to Disney I took a day in the middle of the trip to look around Orlando. I went to a couple of malls, Downtown Orlando, Universal Studios, the outlet, and some little suburb area outside of Orlando. I had a nice time and it was a nice little break. Plus, I like to shop.

We went to the Kennedy Space Center when I was a kid and I remember enjoying it.

Not having a rental car will definitely make it difficult. Can you get a rental even just for day?

Okay, since this is DH's first trip to WDW, I would say do all things Disney! For sure! Next time you go down, maybe stay a little longer and do a few Orlando things. People who have never been to Disney do not realize the scope of it and how enthralling it is on so many levels. DH if you are reading this, please take your time at WDW. My DH and I go just the two of us and it can be very romantic. I can almost guarantee you will want to plan another trip as soon as budget allows. Then you can maybe rent a car a do a little sight seeing at that time. Every time you go, you discover something new. Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!
