Saving rows of seats for others in the Walt Disney Theater: Enough Already!!!

I guess I was more upset about the family behind me with screaming infant, one toddler kicking the back of DH's chair, while the other child coughed all over my back and the mother that was crinkling the popcorn bag incessantly behind my head so that I couldn't hear the show to even care about the guy in front if me saving seats for the wife and kiddos... :(

I didn't say it didn't matter...you don't need to get hostile. I just said I'm not going to let it wreck my vacation. And I have been on 10 cruises with my 3 kids and I have never had them be upset or disappointed about seats.

I think this is a valid point, but honestly, I'm not going to get too upset about a family saving a seat for someone. If it is a row, yet it is annoying, but no more annoying than little kids running through the adult areas...I even had a family bring in their little kids to the piano bar at midnight and no one said anything! I would rather people play by the rules, there are always exceptions (such as a little kid going to the bathroom) there is no need to get upset!

There used to be a big problem with people taking photos in the theatres in the past which no longer happens! Perhaps if the CM started informing people and calling them out on the gross violations, the issue would resolve itself.

You should all write letters perhaps or talk to the cruise director directly after the show. They are always around the ship. If it doesn't upset me, I'm not going to do it, if it did I certainly would. But no need to be upset with anyone on these boards that offer an opinion.

I'm not being hostile.... I'm just incredulous that someone would think that because something doesn't affect them personally it's not worth bothering about. Because YOU don't care about the front row, and choose to sit back further by choice, that doesn't mean that someone else, besides the row hog, doesn't prefer a front row seat.

It's a sad commentary on society that there is so little respect for rules that are meant to make things fair and equitable for everyone.

There are actually people who think a cruise ship should wait for stragglers in port if they can't make it back to the ship on time because they were too busy shopping.

I've said all I have to say on this subject. The point has been made over and over. Hopefully it has reached one or more of the row hogs and they'll mend their ways, but I won't hold my breath!

Have a magical day, everyone

keep in mind its a two way street. because YOU do care about a front row seat everyone else should to? maybe that person is a rule follower, lets assume that. he/she just voiced an opinion that they don't think this is a deal breaker. doesn't mean he/she is right or wrong, its just an opinion. every bit as important as ours.
as a p.p. said "It all boils down to being polite and respecting other people."

Kayaker, i think you are letting the thread get to you. What exactly do you expect him (or her) to do if it doesn't bother him? March up and down the aisles yelling at everyone to move? He didn't say it was okay for people to do it, he just doesn't let it bother him.

I will be the same way. But it's a lesson I've learned well living here in Orlando. People are rude and self entitled when they are on vacation. I've had to learn to ignore it. If I didn't, I'd be fighting with people everyday. I don't care enough about perfect seats either. It doesn't mean it's okay for people to be rude jerks. But I'm not going to stand here screaming, calling DCL, writing letters to Disney over some theater seats. If it bothers you hat much, have at it and call them.

Everyone has a better time when everyone follows the rules. There are always going to be people who don't like a particular policy.... because they want to ignore it. The policy is put in place because it is fair to everyone. Because someone doesn't like it doesn't mean that the policy is wrong... the person who ignores it is wrong.

I still don't understand why people think it is such a burden to have everyone come to the theater together. Get there early if you want the "prime" seats. If you can't get there early, then take the best available seats. What's the problem??

Agree..

I dont like the entitled act people put on.
Everyone paid for their vacation and the rules and regulations. If you do not like the rules or dress codes or anything else mapped out on their policy then may be this isnt the vacation for you. When you paid you signed up for the rules...

I am even glad to give up that one seat to make sure a family of older kids can sit with their parents and for my 4 year old to sit on my lap. Yes I am one to arrive 30 minutes early and I tell my husband th
e wrong time so I get him there on time. Hes the type to show up on time which is late for me.

I am not one to want down in front seating though but if I saw someone saving a whole row. I might be inclined to go claim a few seats.

I also think it is fine if you arrive then have to go potty and get snacks you were there and you did get your seat. Most people are not looking for just one seat.(I know it does happen) I am one who likes an isle seat so if the kids need to go potty we can leave without bothering others.

sorry- its not just "front row seats"....i started this thread as the row that was being saved which me/wife/daughter were being blocked from were actually aisle seats about 12 rows back on one of the side sections...

many people are of the opinion that talking on a cell phone while you drive is no big deal- but guess what? its still a rule...

For you new cruisers out there. This makes this sound like a big problem and it is not. The seat saving does happen every cruise but only in the first few center rows.

I have walked in a few minutes before a show and have been able to sit a few rows from the front but have to sit in the seats are on the right or the left not the center ones. You can walk in and sit 10 rows back with out a problem.

The floor seats are all good. Personally I don't like the balcony (Fantasy and Dream). If you sit in the first two rows (of the balcony) the rail is in your line of vision. If you sit in the "box seats" on the right and left you cannot see all the stage.

Don't let the seat hogs ruin your trip. There are lots of great seats. Just remember the seat hogs are the same people that drive slow in the left lane.

I don't know that anyone has said this has ruined their trip, except for possibly the guy whose wife got pushed out of the way on one of the early pages...

its just freakin rude and really needs to stop....

"front row seats" was what kayaker said, i was just quoting and responding to what they wrote. you would need to read what they wrote to see that. i understand totally what your saying and do not mean to try and change your thoughts. please do not read my post as disagreeing with you. i to have witnessed this.

Here are a couple of solutions....assigned seats like our dining table assignments or perhaps a Fastpass+ seating system.

Hmmmm, concierge gets center-preferred, 11C gets balcony nose bleeding seats behind poles. Shouldn't those that pay premium prices get premium seats?:confused3

I hear you. If it was someone saving a seat for their spouse or their one kid who went potty, I'd have no problems whatsoever. But, we literally saw two teens sit at least 10 seats apart and "reserving" all but 2 or three of the seats in that section of the row. My wife was livid because there were elderly people who had to go to the terrace so these two could reserve seats for their family. So, we told the lady at the entrance and they promptly told the girls that was not allowed. The teens left mad, elderly folks and families with small kids got their seats.

However, other than playing tattle and hoping the service person enforces the no-seat-reservation rules. But, the more fairer way would be have a box office that people could get their numbered tickets in advance (only for that day's show). I might suggest that on my next feedback ballot, actually. It would make the theater experience so much less stressful.

What's wrong with first-come, first-served? Or do you think concierge should have an automatic front-of-the-line pass for the Aqua Duck as well?

Not everyone in concierge will want to attend every theatre performance, and they might not want to sit front and center. DH and I like to sit in the back so we don't have to "do" the stairs.

No, they shouldn't. Concierge pays for a limited number of amenities and upgrades. Once you start dividing up the "general population", then you have 11cs and cheaper OV cabins feeling like steerage. Seems very not-Disney to me.

I'd hate to have people start judging each other by where they sit in the theater.

I think the solution is for people to start sitting in the saved seats. How quickly would people stop saving seats if they knew they were saving the seats for random strangers? I personally don't mind seat savers. We got some great seats to some shows thanks to them. But I seriously think if more people did what we did people would quit trying to save seats.

The problem with that approach is that it is potentially confrontational, and who would like to get in a disagreement on a family vacation? If such is the case, I would rather tell the DCL people at the door to enforce the rules (which they have when prompted by us, btw). I think sometimes they are caught welcoming people and aren't aware of people abusing the seat-saving situation. They just need to be nudged.

The only problem with that is there are already people who don't like the current CC level system for selecting PATs, excursions & Palo/Remy. If this was done, people would then complain about not being able to pick their seats until 90/75 days.

Sure, but at least there would be a clearly designated system.

Not sure how that would work. Would you select seats for every show separately? There are times that many people will not go to "their" show due to Palo/Remy reservations, late port excursions, some other activity. Or even, decide on a day by day basis to go or not.

No, I'm suggesting picking your seats for the whole cruise. Your table number is always X your theater seats are YYYY. At a predetermined time prior to the show starting, any empty seats are made available to people who want to swap, in case someone skips a show or arrives appallingly late.

Not a perfect solution, but at least it would put those who are too timid/uncomfortable to speak up to the seat savers in a better position. Simply show them your KTTW with your seat # on it!
