I just wanted to let you all in on something great that happened last night. We were going to cancel Directv and just use Netflix. My husband called Directv and told them he wanted to reduce our rates or we'd have to cancel, so they give him to someone whose job it is to keep current customers, she asked which channels we watch the most (History and Discovery) and said if we went down a tier we wouldn't loose much programming but would save $10 a month. Well my husband just kept nicely declining, and then the woman offered us $150 in credit which pays for the next 3 months!!! So I guess we have Directv until April :happytv:

But, didn't you have to sign up for a year plan to get that offer? Be careful. There will be a cost to quit in April if so.

We are just about to finish a 2 yr stint with DirecTV and talked to Dish, Direct, and TimeWarner about our options. DirecTV did not do enough to keep our business and would make us sign up for another year plan. Dish didn't do any better. TimeWarner (who we had before Direct) was the better deal for the first three months and didn't make us sign up for a year...we will not be on a plan.

Yes, make sure you didn't agree to another 2 year plan!

Our 2 year subscription is up in April and I plan to call and have them shut it off!

I have heard that with DTV you have to cancel service before they will offer you any great deals.

I also intend to ask for a deal that is not just for a few months! I want something longer term or we will be buying an antenna for the roof and a couple of Tivos.

As much as I like watching TV and having the extended channels available, I think I would like to try an antenna and Netflix or Apple TV and see if we can get by without. 90% of what we watch is network TV anyway and we can do without some of the extra.

This just happened to us with Comcast. We were paying almost $200 per month, plus taxes. I had tried to get them to reduce the rate with no luck. No now that AT&T Uverse is available, my dh wanted me to switch to that. I priced Uverse and got $179 per mo plus taxes and fees (guaranteed for one year) and $175 back in rewards cards (so a net of $164.42 per mo plus taxes when the rewards are factored in).

I called Comcast to confirm I would have no cancellation fees (I didn't think we would) and to cancel if we didn't. They transferred me to customer retention. They asked if I'd signed a contract with AT&T and I said I hadn't, I wanted to be sure I had no cancellation fees with them first. The rep offered me $150ish (can't recall the exact #) plus fees plus free Showtime which we didn't already have plus upgraded internet speed for one year (price guaranteed) with NO CONTRACT, we could cancel at any time. So I happily took it.

We may still change to Uverse at a later date, but it's so brand new in our area we now have the time to let them work out the bugs. And I like Comcast, so I'm perfectly happy staying with them for now. :goodvibes

Just remember, everyone, that getting everything in writing is important! Once you speak to a rep on the phone, then do chat to 'confirm' what they have in their records, and then print the chat. That way they can't come back later and tell you anything different. :thumbsup2

We were calling to double check we had no contract and confirmed we hadn't signed up for a new contract.

We do this with direct tv every time they raise their rates. I call to cancel and they end up lowering their price. In the fall, I called to add the NFL Sunday ticket and when I heard how much it was, I said forget it. Well, they put me on hold and agreed to lower my rates for a year if I signed up for the sunday ticket. I did not have to extend my contract or anything. :thumbsup2

thats good to know! DHs grandma just lost her job and was looking at going down to a cheaper package on her directv so he called for her last week and the next lowest package would only save her like $4 a month, they did lower her current package by $10. I'll have to mention it to him, maybe he should call them again hmmm

We had really planned on canceling, so I think my husband was just playing the "what COULD i get game" and he got the jackpot :rotfl:
