Just saw an advance preview of this last night and it was really good! Definitely recommend it when it comes out! Tom Hanks was great as Walt.

We were treated to a one-hour preview of the movie on the DVC members cruise late Sept/early Oct. It looks to be very well done. It may not be a blockbuster at the box office, but Disney fans should be very pleased with it.:earsboy:

Good to hear. I would have rather had Ryan Gosling, though.:rolleyes1

I have watched Cloud Atlas and while it is still painful a bit to watch Tom try and do character acting, I think he can pull this one off.

The trailers are great. I can't wait to see it. I saw the trailer back in the summer, and I can't believe they're waiting till the holidays to release it.

Looking forward to seeing it but I'm having a hard time with Forest Gump as Walt.

Looking forward to it as well!

If you are on Pinterest, there is board for the movie that has little advance notes, trivia, etc. I can't get it to link, but you should be able to get it in the search box.

Do you think it will be more entertaining for Mary Poppins fans or just Disney fans in general. As a Walt Disney fan, I'm not really interested simply because I think Disney made a mistake by casting someone in the lead role who has a completely opposite view than Walt on certain issues.

Tom Hanks has lost his charm but having him play Walt is just offensive.

I don't understand the remark about views and issues.:confused3 I think Hanks is a really good actor and the scenes we saw were terrific. If you don't like Hanks as an actor, there's probably nothing in this film that will change your mind.

Keep in mind that the Walt we know best is the one we saw on tv, mostly talking about his work on projects. There are loads of books and articles on the man, but few among us can really say what it was like being in his presence. The scenes we saw weren't Hanks portraying Walt "as seen on tv" but attempting to create the story of how Walt convinced Travers to consent to Poppins being made into a movie. This was Walt the shrewd businessman and a convincing seller of ideas. It seems to be lighthearted though, the audience laughed quite a bit in the previews.

As far as the movie being for Mary Poppins fans--there are no songs, dancing, special effects in this movie(not that we saw in the previews). Probably of more interest to fans of Walt Disney and Hollywood/Showbiz history. :earsboy:

I love Tom Hanks as an actor, but not as Walt. I think they should have cast someone who isn't as well known for his views on two topics which are inappropriate to go into on this board which are in opposition to Walt's views. I'm sure the casting people had all read the biographies that are out there before casting Hanks in the role. They would have done better casting an unknown IMO. I would have loved to see this movie with another actor as Walt. JMO

Are you saying that Tom Hanks is too nice and wholesome to play Walt? I agree that Hanks doesn't have the dark sides to him, but oh well...

No, not at all. You can just look up Walt on Wikipedia and compare his views with Hank's to see what I'm referring to. I realize I might be nitpicking but I may not be the only one to scrutinize who's portraying Walt Disney in a movie. Lol. Also, I'm not saying good or bad, or right or wrong, just opposites.

Interesting, but I'm not sure how "well known" whatever the opposing views are as it doesn't seem many here know what you're referring to and I for one have absolutely no clue as to these views. I'm guessing most will not see it as an issue or know it even exists whatever it may be.

Did that, can't figure out what you're talking about. :confused3

I don't see anything about Walt's "views". And on Tom Hanks page all I see about his views is that he is pro gay marriage.

Even if they are complete opposites in real life that doesn't matter to me. I don't expect actors to be just like the characters they play.

Don't care about their views. The movie looks great and I can't wait to see it.

Ok, I'm curious. Did they condense the whole movie into one hour, or did they show you just the first hour? I'm so intrigued! :rotfl:

Could you please be more specific? The only things I can think that you might mean are pretty negative and I can't imagine why you'd WANT someone who shares those beliefs.
