Savannah Guthrie’s mother missing

I still say ripping down the Nest camera doesn't sound random to me. He rolls up to a house, doesn't know if there is anything of value inside. When you look at the video and not just the photos, he raises his hand to knock on the door. That's when he happens to see the Nest camera. Why not just back away & try elsewhere?

He doesn't seem to know how the camera works. 🤷‍♀️ He covers it with his hand at first. Yet, it already started filming him as he walked up AND as he turned around and walked to get the weeds or shrubbery, AND walked up a second time. He also doesn't know to step to the side, at a 90 degree angle of the camera to get out of the view of the lens as he's covering it. That's how there is such great footage of him and what may be under his mask.

Yet, when he takes Nancy, he knows enough to take her Apple watch off so it's not GPSing her location. 🤷‍♀️

To me, this sounds like an Of Mice and Men scenario with two men, one smart and one a lumbering oaf. :scratchin

Maybe the perp heard about Savannah's mother. He thought, just like in cop shows and movies, that rich people always have a stack of bills in their safe. The robber just points a gun, the safe gets opened and they get away with a wad of cash. So, he rolls up with a way too obvious gun in a holster.

Only the robbery goes horribly wrong. Nancy doesn't have a safe, especially one filled with money. She can't even get out of bed very well, especially with a terrifying man waving a semi-automatic at her. Nancy either accidentally gets killed or she has a heart attack.

Did he call the smart guy who told him to take the body so their would be no evidence? Yet leave the Apple watch and take nothing else?

Yet, the news now says the FBI found a pair of black gloves on the side of the road near Nancy's property. So, he's smart enough to take the body, yet stupid enough to throw away gloves near the scene? 🤷‍♀️

And 3 days after the abduction, as a PP mentioned, someone was smart enough to mask his IP address when sending a note, asking for ransom and mentioning that Nancy's Apple watch was taken off and left at the scene and the floodlights were broken, so the family would know that note was possibly legit. Yet, he isn't smart enough to know he'd have to provide proof of life.

The whole thing is so bizarre, but my thing with the watch...I don't know that the person took it off of her. Thinking there's a good chance she takes it off herself when she goes to bed. No way would I want to wear mine at night and I'm half her age, so I don't know that this person took it off.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if this whole thing was some kind of scam/set up (the video and evidence that's there.) It just doesn't make any sense. Certainly not saying her being taken is a scam, but the ransom notes, video, evidence...I mean it Certainly seems far fetched and no idea who or why, but the whole thing just seems so pointless and to me no pattern. If this person is so good at hiding her or disposing of a body of someone who is getting nonstop national attention but stupid enough with what we saw in the video and possible gloves etc...it just doesn't add up.

I agree with PP that it’s more likely she simply wasn’t wearing the watch. It stopped syncing with her pace maker because she was out of range. I’m not buying that the perpetrator was smart enough to intentionally leave it behind.

he raises his hand to knock on the door.
Why would he knock? It was ~1:45am. More likely he was looking for a camera — a light or reflection or something indicating it was there.

Wasn’t at least 1 random note determined to be fake? The watch and lights were already public knowledge by the time the notes started. Someone trying to take advantage of the situation. I don’t think kidnapping for ransom was ever part of the perp’s plan. My money is on robbery gone wrong.

I hope this case isn't bungled like Jon Benet Ramsey's case. Why did it take 12 DAYS for police/FBI to scour the grounds & area around Nancy's house? I would have thought that would have been done on Day 2. And they collect everything, even a discarded gum wrapper or cigarette butt, in case the kidnapper's DNA is on it. Those gloves should have been picked up earlier and placed in an evidence bag, just in case.

They went over the sister's house TWICE, but not the grounds or area around Nancy's house? 🤷‍♀️

Also, why did it take 12 days to ask all the neighbors in the area for their security footage? What if someone's system overwrites the tapes every 7 days? The footage may already be lost.

I don't think it was. I was watching TMZ when they mentioned they received a note that said the Apple watch was left at the house and the floodlights had been broken. They said they were NOT going to say what that part of the note contained as it was still unknown stuff. If it had already been mentioned in the news, they would have blabbed about it.

Yes, at least one was. But, some news said Nancy appeared to be going on the assumption that the note TMZ and 2 Tucson news stations received, mentioning the Apple watch was (possibly) real. She said in one of her public pleas, that she'd be willing to pay, (in her cryptic wording.) But she needed proof of life. And as 2 deadlines went past with no proof of life, that's when they realized it wouldn't be coming.

I agree, however they had the FBI involved pretty much immediately ..like I said it just doesn't make any sense

Do they know / did I miss it - they know she was literally taken from her bed? Could she have gone to bed and then got up and was walking around/kitchen for whatever reason/bathroom, glass of water and this person walked in on her? I don't sleep well or much and I am up all hours of the night.

I know from the beginning they are saying she has mobility issues - but perhaps they exaggerated a bit and she is not as bad as they claim and can get around pretty decent. Just letting kidnapper know through the media she is not well - so before she passes on you, bring her back?

If it was an intended robbery though - I also question why would the backpack be full?

We are all curious now and want a positive outcome of course - but it can go cold.

They seemed to have identified the brand of the backpack to be an Ozark Trail Hiker. I wonder if they can tell if it had scuffs or anything or more was newly purchased. Obviously Amazon purchases could be very difficult to use but they could potentially go to local stores to start there.

They also seem to think it's a male, average build and between 5 ft 9 inches and 5ft 10 inches.

An interesting thing I thought was that they are wanting camera footage from a 2 mile radius including from cars (so I would assume that is dash cams plus cameras on vehicles used for like backup as well as 360 cameras certain vehicles come with) and from people but the more interesting part IMO was the timeframe. They are wanting all the way up to a 1 month from the disappearance date. That's I'm sure to get a look at patterns and if someone repeatedly shows up but that's also quite a long timeframe to be looking at.

Ozark Trail is a Walmart brand. I suppose it could be purchased from Amazon but more likely from Walmart. But whether a local store or online could be either.

They found a glove inside her home.

No disrespect to Nancy Guthrie but this whole thing or scene or scenario is getting really weird as far as the "investigation" is going. Seems more questions but no answers. My opinion, of course. :(

eta.......haven't seen anything else about this "new" glove so hopefully it was false news. My other comment/opinion still stands.

I saw that they might have found a glove inside. That would now make THREE gloves.

It is possible. Those gloves are possibly the cheap, disposable nitrile gloves. They are a different type of rubber than latex gloves that many people are allergic too. They are supposed to be slightly thicker too, and they come in a variety of colors. Boxes of 100 gloves are available at Walmart, Costco, etc. I've seen people argue online that they are only used for specific professions. Yet, they aren't specific to any one profession.

I use them for goopy crafts, greasy food prep, housecleaning, hair coloring. They are seen in many YouTube vids doing the same. At work, we have them if we are handling items and our hands would get too goopy. I stuff a few in my pocket at work, (not for food handling,) and have been known to drop one here and there as I reach into my pocket for something else.

However, I've also seen a photo of the suspect at that arched entryway with NO backpack on. The police/FBI don't explain when that was taken. It's just a single, random photo. But, it had to have been before he ripped down the camera.

And the next day, after the one guy was questioned then released, I saw on ABC News the reporter specifically state that the police/FBI were going on a tip that Nancy Guthrie was held in that guy's home. The reporter even interviewed his mom afterward, when the police/FBI had burst into their home. They were just a simple, hardworking family, who hadn't even been watching the news to be aware of who Nancy is.

Now the FBI is putting out that they have had that guy on their radar for quite a while, way before that video of the suspect came out. Really? They've bee watching him, meanwhile Nancy's life may have been in danger due to her health conditions. I get watching to see if he goes somewhere to feed Nancy, and they want to follow him. But, we are talking about 10 days in.
